  1. Low76 - You seem like the kind of guy that was like most 80's rockband - anti-keyboard. As a keyboard player in a band I take offense to the "one man and a computer" analogy. There is a distnict difference between this style of "synth" and the crap that people like Timbaland put out. Rock and ESPECIALLY Alternative rock is adding synth/keyboard/piano sounds to fill in some of the holes of the traditional bass guitar/lead-rhythm guitar/drums...thats has been played out long enough. Obviously you have no acceptance for change and thats fine but don't bring the rest of us down Violet Hill is pretty good and Viva La Vida is pretty great...and its good to hear OTHER instruments in there.
  2. Of course VLV isn't as iconic as clocks...Clocks is still to this day ripped off for commercials, news show intros, even OTHER songs...I was listening to a new hip hop song here in the states by I don't even know who and I could quite frankly care less but underneath a droning keyboard was the rift to clocks....its bullshit. So in that aspect I'm almost glad it's likely not to be "iconic" like Clocks was... Now is VLV better musically than clocks? Potentially they are different in form but similar in that they are both catchy in the same kind of way. The instrumentals in VLV are amazing, but the piano riff in clocks if gorgeous. All in all VLV is likely not to be as popular and Iconic as Clocks and I don't think another Coldplay song ever will, but as far as I am concerned they are both near the top of Coldplay's best.
  3. And I am sure you will get it....there will be a range of styles on this album I think but you will get your darker Coldplay just be patient....as I said early most of us are gonna love it from one end of the spectrum to the other, some may just prefer the darker and more jagged style...
  4. I think this shows the versatility of the new sound. Some will like the harder darker Coldplay, some will like the lighter more uplifting Coldplay, while the majority of us are just gonna love it from one end to the other and everywhere in between. I must say I said prior to this that VLV would be a great album but it probably wouldn't be better than Rush of Blood to the Head but I now seriously have my doubts.... Viva La Vida is amazing the sound is definately influenced by Arcade Fire on this one.... I'm not all for claiming every song is their best song but ....this one is for sure close to the top on my list after only 3 listens.
  5. gah...i like it mostly but the hip-hop drum beat scares the *$^@ out of me...
  6. Interesting I hadn't heard that Arcade Fire was an influence on this album but if thats true I just got alittle more excited because I LOVE the style of Arcade Fire especially some of their organ prominent songs.
  7. If you play Violet Hill on a stereo system you will note that the vocals seem very reverb-ish...like the sound you would get if you recorded them in a huge open cathedral.... I'm sure we all remember when the big buzz was that the guys headed to Spain to do some recording in a Spanish Cathedral....I wonder if Violet Hill vocals were one of them...?
  8. Yeah that looks alittle better, I knew it was more of a pull off/hammer on style than bends during the solo....when I tabbed it I tabbed it down lower but the same pattern....I'm just way out of tune right now so I knew I wasn't in the right spot but the pattern is simple to come up with...
  9. Judging by Violet Hill ...Viva La Vida will be a close 2nd to AROBTTH, which was by far the best out of the first 3. This album is going to be interesting. I'm typically not a huge fan of major distortion as it doesn't take a whole lot of talent to play this way, but Johnny has proven himself as a guitarist a long time ago, and the meaty distortion actually fits well....I think we will be hearing alot of it in this album.... The solo is actually pretty simplistic but very catchy, I picked up my guitar and plucked out the notes within a matter of 5 minutes.... I'll give 8/10
  10. Whoever enters will probably be manhandled and searched before being allowed in anyways...I couldn't imagine a recording device making it in even if someone tried....
  11. There are some 30,000 odd members of coldplyaing.com, most of who have never posted. I wonder how many does MSG hold and how many active US fans does Coldplaying have :-P
  12. 1. Coldplay 2. The Editors 3. Interpol 4. Mat Kearney 5. One Republic
  13. The tremolo effect is most likely generated from his DL-4. This pedal has like 16 delays built in and some of the delays have multiple effects with them. There is one I discovered the other day that has a delay with some sort of phase shift component. Hope that helps.
  14. I for one can't STAND Kanye West and I don't know alot of people in the states who can. The speck of music ability he has can't be ignored by the fact that hes such an arrogant prick. Personally as far as "hip hop/rap" songs that Chris has been part of, I like Beach Chair with Jay Z WAY better. Kanye West needs a reality check, hes an average musician hes nowhere NEAR as great as he thinks he is.
  15. This model as far as I know is only available in Europe so if your from the US it might be hard to find but I know I have found it before, sometimes on E-bay. The reviews on it are not that great to be quite honest but I have never played it so I would have no idea.
  16. I have an MXR micro amp and yes....it does give you a quite gain boost if you need it. I don't know what kind of compressor you have but I have a Boss CS-3 and it works great you can dial in a large amount of sustain and control the volume on the pedal plus it also has an attack dial. I have 9 pedals in my chain directly into the amp and sustain is not a problem for me. Also the ProCo Rat is probably one of the best distoritions in my opinion its what Johnny uses.
  17. above all else justbe patient. i started with only being able to read sheet music and litterally wrote the notes on the keys...lol. I started with clocks but the scientist is probably a really good one. Its a good one for tempo and rythm and once you start getting better listen to how chris plays it in concert and see if you can figure out his variations ;-). And....you dont need to be able to play by sightreading...if you can memorize
