One Thing Missing
I could agree...there are hints of those just in shorter fragments of songs such as 42 and Cemetaries of London, they are there just don't proceed through the whole song like they did with Trouble, The Scientist, fix you, etc

What's So Great About Coldplay, Anyway?
for me its the fact that they inspired me to take up instruments. They were the first band I listened to and said hey that sounds cool...now how do you make those sounds? Now music is a huge part of my life and im in "Debt" if you will to Coldplay for it.

Alternate Name?
there is no exact science for naming a song. I play in a band and we do the same thing frequently. Ideas flow freely and I'm sure there are many instances like this.

Sorry for being a downer...
Kinda scary actually...I hope your not serious in fact im pretty sure your not but you never know with people. I love Coldplay as much as I possibly could anything but come on, its a band, its music...if music is what you like learn to play an instrument and make your own or something...thats something to look "forward" to. If Coldplay is all you have to live your life for maybe consider involving something or someone else in your life....

The Official Opinions about the new album thread
Out of respect for the band I'm not listening to anything I havent yet heard until the 9th, but excited to hear such good reviews from fans so far.

Jonny Buckland's "Pandora Box"
Yeah it is a well set up design, and some of them probably do go to his rack units "(I think he has 3?). This is nothing that the average guitarist would have the money or knowledge to be able to reproduce. If there are any Editors fans here Chris Urbanowicz uses a board like this exclusively and most of his actually pedals and effects are offstage no where near his actual board. I have a pic if anyone wants to see.

Justin Timberlake Inspires Coldplay Album
Good gosh people...how bout I just say I have the entire record in CD quality ready to d/l...you people seem to believe everythings...haha. Tell me what part of the album verision that we heard in the background of that interview sounds like it was JT influenced...relax people he's joking.

Jonny Buckland's "Pandora Box"
I can't be 100% sure but it is most likely a "one switch does all" kind of thing. Different songs call for multiple effects and you can program one switch to turn on those needed and off those not needed. He probably has them programmed song by song.

New Live Keyboard/Synth
Anyone know what brand and style keyboard/synth that Chris and Jonny were using during the MTV movie awards? I wanna say I have seen that unique blue colored synth somewhere but now I can't find it... Its either a yamaha or a Roland. Anybody pick up on it?

War With Radiohead's Message Board!!!
I never did agree with the radiohead comparison really with any coldplay song...I never saw the connection really. The only obvious trace I have listened to is the preview of 42 defineatly sounds like it belongs on "In Rainbows". Personally I find Radiohead to be not that great of a band and the new stuff is just beyond odd and almost annoying...but people seem to love them and thats fine. I'd take Coldplay anyday...

Is there some way to show Coldplay our disappreciation of all seating?
Large venue shows here in the US I believe require all seating due to safety risks. The only Coldplay show in the US I ever went to that wasn't seated was in Tampa and that was only because it was outdoors. I guess its a culture difference but I don't see why you all seem to be whining so much about this...be lucky you still have standing shows at it is...

Is there a guitar in Viva La Vida?
Jonny will probably play some of it with a slide and/or ebow. Some people think about how you don't have to "play" anything anymore. These are just FOUR guys how are they suppose to make all those sounds themselves without even a MIDI. Jonny in the past has used his DL4 (loop recorder) plenty and I'm sure he will do it here too. And no matter how much a keyboard can play things for you you still have to create the masterpiece itself. Putting together and mixing a song is a whole different world than performing it live...

bloop.
Art is a huge theme to this album as im sure it will be to the live show, im sure they view the new style as "art", much like they describe their new music. I personally like the theme there are parts of the wardrobe that I don't like but to me it looks conceptual and artistic. In the end I always say...its their band and music, they can do what they want. I don't see Coldplay as one to play off what others think or do...I think we just all find ways to make it look that way.

rank all vlv songs thus far
1. Viva La Vida 2. Lost! (Album version) 3. Violet Hill 4. Life In Technicolor 5. Yes (What I have heard of it, quite potentially could move up) 6. Lovers In Japan People don't like LIT because it is an instrumental and apparently no one here plays instruments and realizes that this song was probably created from a simple jam session...the best kind of music is made this way. I myself think it is great short jam that leaves you wanting more making it the perfect opener and supporting the concept of having an album full of equal songs that you listen to from end to end. I rank Lovers In Japan last because it has an ever so slight country twang in it in a few spots and I absolutely HATE country and anything associated with it, but its not a bad song by any means.

Guitar Gear?
I know your new but there are numerous posts on this topic anywhere from what piano Chris uses to the outboard units and pedalboard setup for Johnny and Guy. Do some searching and if you still have a specific question we will try to help ya.

General Admission
GA is the way to go. I went to Tampa in 2006 and was RIGHT against the fence. These tickets cost me 150 on ebay a piece NOTHING can compare to that. I got there at 3 and the gates opened at 6. When I got there, 10-15 people were there at the most and we sat right by the gate. I also got JOhnnys pick at the end. I would travel anywhere were there is a GA show in a heartbeat, but as of yet that havent announced any in the US....

Life in Technicolor...Song listen?
wow ...seriously..... How old are you ? lol
-
The End
Low - I think what is hard to swallow is not that you dislike the new direction, its how you think only your preference for music is any good and the rest of us do not know what we are talking about. the Life in Technicolor you saw was probably just the jam session that started to create the song. A lot of great artists just "jam" meaning they just start playing, try a few things and usually can shape the "jam" into a song if desired. Like I have said before you obviously don't play in a band or even play an instrument for that matter, and well....thats fine. Also your classification of what you think the new stuff is is just plain wrong. Its not hip hop...at all....its far from Jay Z, Kanye West, Timbaland or any of the other idiots we are cursed with here in the states. Your definately allowed your own opinion but you refuse to discuss your views with anyone you just simply state them and alot of members have called you out when your just plain wrong....yet you refuse to aknowledge it. Yes most of us love the old Coldplay, but if they just continued to write the same way everytime there would be some other bonehead like you in here telling us how Coldplay is just doing the same thing over and over. If you don't like the direction music is going learn to play an instrument, make your own music then at least you'll have something you like. Oh on a final note. You rip on synth and keyboards and call it "computer music". Well I hate to break it to ya but ANY instrument can be played on a keyboard not just synths or orchestral instruments, you could play bass guitar and electric, even acoustic with just a keyboard if you wanted so your computer music bash isn't really fair. I guarentee they didn't use any computers to make these sounds we have heard so far...it's not their style.

Viva la Vida (song) = Beautiful...?
Good god man, seriously no one qualifies this as hip hop or Emo...I will say ASARY sounds alittle bit hip hop to me but the other two and what we have heard of Lost! just simply isn't. I have been a coldplay fan from Parachutes as well and I like the new direction...so maybe your opinion is just that...one opinion. We get it...you don't like Synth, you don't like keyboard and probably have no clue how to play any instrument. Believe me if this stuff sounded that close to hip hop or EMO id be the LAST person to listen to it...

NO BIG SONGS on "Viva La Vida" CD
Dude you really have something against synth/keyboard sounds don't you. I guess thats fine to each their own personally I love the deep church organ sound of Arcade Fire it is DIFFERENT from your cliche bass/guitar/drums that gets OLD, like I said in a different post for songs that arent guitar heavy they may adapt it for the live show...they have done that before and can do it again. Will plays every instrument. Maybe he will switch it up on a few songs? who knows your judging by ONE song if you don't like it FINE, I dont like ASARY really at all but I love VLV. I see you as a 50 year old guy messed up on coke with tight leather pants and long curly hair wanting to shred on the guitar and calling it music.
-
What about the other band members?
haha - dude if you don't like it just don't listen? It's THEIR music they can make it however they want. If YOU don't like THEIR music than don't listen! As for the live show for example VLV is string-heavy however I was noticing that alot of it could be played on electric with a slide and an e-bow...live songs are often presented differently than the album version. Obviously Low76 talks a big game but has no experience playing in a band or making music...
