  1. I have a theory....you're thinking about it way too much for someone who supposedly doesn't like the band anymore? How's that am I close? Your posts are getting really annoying btw...
  2. Great song. I find it amusing though that songs like this and Sparks are what gets Coldplay labeled as "dull rock" and "sleep music", so when they try to change that image now they are suppose to go back to what they were ridiculed for? Eh...guess ya can't win either way...
  3. You obviously don't understand what Auto-tune is....there is no auto-tune in ETIAW, mostly reverb and compression. Auto-tune is pitch-correction and produces a tremolo effect when the depth is increased. I hear none of that here.
  4. ^ Sorry not sure what OP is, can't afford to spend enough time in my day to to have over 10,000 posts in just over 4 years, so my knowledge of forum abbreviations is limited...sorry. I was merely stating a response to the original topic of the thread.

  6. Briggins - Rants like these accomplish nothing. Your interest in Coldplay probably started in the Parachutes era like it did for me, probably Lore and a few others posting here. What you fail to assess is that some of the posters in here weren't even old enough to walk when parachutes came out. You can't expect mature mentality when discussing the evolution of the band when they weren't even around to see it. They have just as much right to the music as you do. In the end its COLDPLAY that decides what they want write. I will say I am tired of the bashing. Never here have I seen so much bashing after ONE song. We don't have to love EVERY Coldplay song but I think you can admit that the percentage of their catalog that is favorable is much higher with Coldplay than most bands. And with that said, I will put it out there that ETIAW didn't sound too bad live, and the overall show last night was a great performance, including the new material.
  7. And the tempo lines up around 118 BPM, little slow for a dance track, but they usually don't dabble with fast tempos....
  8. The video from yesterday and today go together. that pulsating sound you get with the bass I am pretty sure is going to be product of sidechain compression (you can kind of hear it in the one yesterday as well) This basically means there will be a house-like drum beat that goes with whatever this song is, but I am 95% sure the video from yesterday and today go together.
  9. Ah, gotcha. Didn't know Garageband has limitations on effects and no automation, so that makes sense. I would have to say knowing that Audacity is really the best "free" recording software IMO.
  10. Why are you using audacity to mix? I am not that familiar to garageband but I would think you could mix there or no? Anyways there is no hard pressed rules for mixing. Generally drums, bass stay in the middle and other instruments pan, but like I said, there is no hard pressed rule. Experiment, play around...you will find ways to mix that are pure personal preference or taste.
  11. haha...yes they were animated and rather poorly. It is what it is, they wouldn't make fun of them if they weren't having success...that's just the way shows like Family Guy and South Park are.
  12. Well...fair enough then. I guess to each his own. Our bass player switched to bass because he was bored with guitar and everyone plays guitar anyways. He is probably one of the most talented bass players out there. I switched to keyboards and synths from guitar because I was average at best playing guitar, and I soon found it more satisfying playing an instrument that was not so popular. I guess its all in the individual.
  13. Bands are complicated. Your best friend doesn't always make the best band mate, and I assure you controlling types will make you miserable. If it isn't working go elsewhere. Guitar players are a dime a dozen. If you have two guitar players one can convert to bass and you can get by with that (yes, I know playing bass isn't like guitar BUT it is a way to get started). It is ok to find people with different styles as long as those styles can mesh. Sometimes it is good to have contrasting taste but there has to be compromise with it. Good luck.
  14. yeah ... Will is a great drummer and musician but there is just too much going on in that song to not have some sounds looped. Someone had a pic that had a few foot pedals by his feet. Perhaps he triggers and tempos his own loops? I know he has been more into drum machines and such in the recent past.
  15. I am not a drummer so I may be wrong, but does anyone else think that there are some drum loops used live on some of the percussion-heavy tracks? Just seems like at times there is way too much going on for one person to play themself. This doesn't make me look down on Will or them any, but just a curious observation.
  16. back to the original question.... If you are looking for a backing track to clocks I would assume you have a keyboard of some sort? Even the cheapest of keyboards these days have some sort of synth/string on them. Its a very common even somewhat "generic" sound which wouldn't be hard to reproduce. Simply adjust your attack time a little higher to get a "swelling" effect. I am only assuming this because if you are looking at playing this live you probably aren't doing so on a piano which means you probably already have access to these sounds on your keyboard, and most would let you layer the sound on top of each other or split it into two different sections.
  17. Yeah...he is definately playing keyboard chords on it. Depending on what song it is (Billy Jean?) it is hard to know exactly what sound he is playing. Back when they were doing "I'm a Believer" on C-Stage he would have used this to play the organ sound. Not sure what song or voice (sound) he is using it to play here, but that little keyboard sends MIDI messages to a sound module. Think of it like a piano. When you strike a piano key a hammer hits a string inside the piano to make a sound. With MIDI you hit a key and a message is sent to a seperate sound module to play a corresponding note. MIDI can also be used to trigger loops and tracks like you mentioned but usually would be done by a different type of keypad, and like you said it is fairly obvious he is playing chords there, not triggering loops. Hope that helps rather than confuse more. As a side note I think this type of controller would be extremely frusterating to play, and take a lot of getting used to the awkward design and feel of the keys.
  18. http://www.skratchworx.com/images/nano_black.png My apologies I mistakenly referred to it as the microkontrol, it is actually called the nano-key series. ( I Knew this just typed the wrong thing previously). These 3 come together usually. The one on the bottom in the pic is what Chris was hung vertically on his mic stand and painted the keys random colors.
  19. What you quoted above was my response to the questions about the main keyboards on stage. While similar in name, the Korg Kontrol 49 (blue keyboard on main stage) and the Korg Pad-Microkontrol ( what is pictured above on his mic stand) are two totally different items. It looks like Chris has taken the inverted keys version of the Pad-Microkontrol and painted them random colors. If you took away the colors the keys would resemble a musical keyboard.
  20. I am fairly certain it is a Korg Microkontrol. This is Korg's new ultra slim MIDI controller. Those keys are in the shape of a regular piano keyboard, although smaller and they react like a computer keyboards key. The regular version is colored white and black appropriately, however it looks like he has chosen to color them individually different colors. This unit simply controls a sound module or computer software from a remote position.
  21. I personally like the fact that Jonny doesn't "solo". There is this mindset in music that solos are "awesome" a real "Crowd pleaser". For me its a yawn-fest after about 10-15 seconds. Sure its great that you can play really fast, but does it really sound that good? Compare the sound of a "solo" to the atmospheric sounds of "Lovers In Japan" or the crisp riff of "Spies" (one of Coldplay's best songs). There is no comparison. Maybe I am a buzz kill or maybe its because I play more like Jonny, which is not for speed....but playing fast bores me. And if you are going to play pentatonic scales...give me BB King over Van Halen or Guns and Roses. That 80's hair metal shit is so played out.
  22. Here are some pics from Saturday night, sorry they are a little grainy, we had to use a "backup" camera. Enjoy.
  23. So I will have to say that this was the loudest, most enthusiastic crowd I have ever seen at any concert, not just Coldplay. I was in the pit far left right where the catwalk comes out. It seemed like everyone was singing and cheering to EVERY song. You could hear the roars behind you all night long. The boys were having a blast too. Kind of surprised this far into it that they are still able to enjoy it so much. A few mistakes were made, but that made it even more fun as Chris joked about it. During "The Hardest Part" it started to downpour and the people on the lawn started roaring, you could tell Chris wasn't quite sure what to do! I also got a high five from Jonny right before the encore :-D.
  24. It's not Jon Hopkins. I have his album and saw him when he opened. I know what you are referring to, but I am not sure what it is. There was a ambient-synth style song that played before Snow Patrol went on during the last part of their arena shows in the US. That song is called "Jump in the Pool" by Friendly Fires.
  25. ah yes, and large amount of reverb goes without saying
