glad you're all diggin the latte art! After about six months I started pouring designs. It took a couple years to get consistent at it. And that entailed a LOT of constant trial and error. Its a subtle and very precise procedure that requires milk steamed just right, and shots pulled just right, and the milk poured at just the right speed, amount, angle, elevation, etc... and requires precise wrist movements to get an image going. The timing and precision has to be right on, otherwise it won't work. It has to be done very fast, otherwise the foam separates in the pitcher, and it can't work. But at the same time you can't rush it, otherwise the image turns out sloppy. Other than that, its difficult to explain. Its like trying to tell someone what music sounds like. It has to be experienced to be understood. The ones with the white background and espresso-colored images are different. I poured the milk in first. And slowly poured the espresso on top of the milk. And used a needle to trace the espresso through the milk and create patterns. To make the monkey, I put dollups of thinly foamed milk on top of the surface, and used the epsresso as ink and a needle as my brush to "paint" the rest.

Haven't been here in six years...
Hello everyone! Thanks for the welcoming party! :P Hah, I've been busy. I'm inbetween living situations, so I'm finding myself with a lot of free time on my hands (for once in a very long time). I was thinking about everyone and decided to drop in. I'm noticing that though most of my crew is gone, the spirit seems to be the same!

How do you know what you're going to do with your life
pursuing music during a near economic depression is a seriously difficult road to travel down. I myself, and every other band, singer/songwriter, or rapper in Atlanta understand the daily struggle in trying to be heard. Unless you're packing out amphitheaters and arenas, bands generally don't make money playing shows. Even if you pack out a place, you're still splitting the money between the other band members. And so you're left with not much... enough to get gas on the way home, and perhaps a cheap meal. Even my friends signed on Maverick didn't make any money and the label eventually plummeted and they were dropped. A lot of people decide they want to do music early on in life. Most give up by their late 20s. I know incredible musicians who just flat out couldn't deal with the lifestyle anymore and quit. My own mentor suffered this fate. A few years ago he left for LA to work with Chris Robinson, Blake Sennett (Rilo Kiley, The Elected) and Devendra Banhart, hung out with Danger Mouse, and came back energized. Now he builds and fixes espresso machines for a living, and has no desire to pursue music, even though it is still his life. The road got to him. The guy grew up with Butch Walker, and he GAVE UP. I almost lost my faith as well. I slowly watched my friends turn from driven local rock stars to heroin addicts. So many bands break up because of drug addictions; most of them BEFORE stardom. So I became disenchanted and decided to work on a business plan for a mixology bar. If it weren't for the constant encouragement from my friends and family to pursue music, I'd probably be a bar owner right now. My own parents even sat me down and told me that I would be abandoning my passion if I didn't pursue music. So one year ago, I dropped everything I had to make a record. I was jobless and homeless, but that's nothing new in the life of a musician. I crashed on couches, stayed with my family, and stayed in the studio where I recorded my first record. I shipped off the mastered copy today to get pressed. And now, for the first time, I feel like everything is falling into place. I'll own a bar when I'm old. I was almost 28 when I figured all this out. It shouldn't have to be an age thing. Its like there's this imaginary deadline that everyone freaks out about, but no one quite knows for sure when that deadline is, everyone just assumes its "ASAP." Go at your natural pace; don't let pressure throw you off. You'll find it. Don't force it.

years of practice. I actually learned from watching videos on youtube, hah. the milk has to be "stretched" rather than frothed, so it swirls around with the epresso rather than getting mixed in completely. Its gotta be done really fast and poured at the perfect angle, and by moving your wrists while pouring, you create waves of milk, and can manipulate where it goes.

I need an adventure
A trip. Maybe for a couple of weeks. Maybe longer. I dont know. I just need an adventure. Out of state. For the first time in my life I've realized that I'm my own priority. A lot of people find the need to go off somewhere and "find themselves" but my reasons are more towards seeking independence and being comfortable with this new life I have. I'm emotionally attached to this town, this state, as much as I hate the society here, my whole foundation is here. I'm surrounded by people I have nothing in common with. I hate the idea of settling down here. The two biggest social groups here are rednecks and the hip-hop community, both are total opposites and both which I have nothing in common with. So me, my pipe, my notebook, and my guitar are going to go on a journey. Maybe July or August. Any suggestions?

the BEER thread!
Beer of the Night: Murphy's Irish Stout A true Guinness Alternative. Smoother. Creamier, not as malty. Smokiness is there, but not as up-front as a Guinness, making this a great brew to have with a smoke. I suggest having a cigar or a pipe with one. This is the stout equivalent of a Boddington's, its dark twin, if you will.

What was the last song you learned?
Rufus Wainwright - Poses on guitar

Sigur Rós
Sigur Ros live.... amazing...

the BEER thread!
Beer of the night: Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout sweet, sweet nectar of the gods! Dark, malty, sweet, with notes of grapes and apples. This beer is a world of its own, and a lot of people who dont even like most beers enjoy this one. An all-time favorite of many beer critics, and beer enthusiasts. This beer made Samuel Smith my favorite line of brews!
