The word masterpeice / masterwork within music
wow, i completely agree with your list. though i would argue that kid A is more of a masterpiece than OK computer on the whole, despite what most people think. i think kid A works better as an album, even though OK computer contains some of my all-time favorites. and abbey road is not my favorite beatles album, but i love all of them so incredibly much that i would agree with any you put up there. my vote would go to revolver or rubber soul or even a hard day's night, though.

A Parachutes 'moment'
ooh, i love the storyline in spies. it makes me think of a potentially really kick-ass spy movie. apparently it has similarities to a book called the spy that came in from the cold, but i don't know if it's intentional or unintentional. i figure coldplay means it to be metaphorical, but i can't help but invision cold-war era spies in soviet russia or something :laugh1: i first heard parachutes on august 6 2005, driving across the maine woods in the dead of night after my uncle's wedding. since then i've always thought of it as the best night-driving album out there. the best part was when my dad stopped the car on a bridge because no one was on it and turned off the car's headlights so we could see all the thousands of stars without any light pollution up there, and i saw a shooting star while listening to yellow :nice: [/ramble]

Coldplay: In the Studio
yeah, i've got the full picture with guy in it! once my roommate gets back, i'll ask her if i can borrow her scanner and i'll upload it here. i have no clue why they took guy out on the website! it's not like he's a lesser bandmember or something, and he looks equally as gorgy.

A Parachutes 'moment'
ah, parachutes moments! for some reason, i get most excited about the new album when listening to parachutes as well. specifically shiver. i don't know why, but i get super-excited when i hear shiver. i think it's because i love chris's voice in it, and i can't WAIT to hear him go low on VLVOD.

What are you honestly afraid of?
i'm afraid of failure, of major conflict, and of risks. i'm also terrified of sea life, namely fish. i get mocked for it all the time, but i can't even really look at them without getting freaked out.

What Would you Do in my Place?
*sigh* you're so right. i think i just needed to hear all these things from other people to get the confidence to do it. i decided in the past week that i'm pretty much definitely applying to this better place (that i originally REALLY wanted to go to, but didn't get in), but i'm still freaking out a bit at the prospect of the potential decision i may have in december (because it's too late for me to go for next september; if i transfer it's got to be beginning in january 2009). i guess that's something that i need to think about only once i get there. my other dilemma in this is that the new place i might be going (vassar, it's called; i should really talk about these places with names) might not let me go abroad because i'm a transfer, and if they do let me go abroad, they might make me do a 5th year, which i'm really not keen on. going abroad is HUGELY important to me, and if they say that i can't go at all, i'm not going there and will either stay where i am (because i definitely can go abroad here) or will go somewhere else. you're right about the whole settling-in thing as well; i've actually only been here for 8 weeks! i was forced to take a semester off. because of this, my college education will be REALLY patched-together: 2 semesters total at dickinson (where i am now), 2 semesters in england, and 3 at vassar. that's kind of insane, and they might not like that. anyway, thanks a million for all the help. i like to get opinions from lots of places when making big decisions. somehow it helps :nice:

What Would you Do in my Place?
yes, i tend to agree with you in everything that you said. i just feel guilty about transfering when i don't have any major complaints besides the lack of a film program and the slightly easy academics. thanks, emily :D

PRISON.
true. i can think of some dumb people i know that have done that. who knows, we'll probably get at least one interesting story on here. i was once called to the dean's office for a discussion about why i skipped school (for a coldplay concert). does that count?

The 'It's a Monday where I am' poll
i'm pretty good at predicting the time. it's odd. even when i know what hour it is, i can predict the minute pretty well. but i'm also kind of obsessive about knowing the time. i go a bit nuts if i'm not wearing a watch.

What Would you Do in my Place?
ok, so despite my craziness of tonight, i have a serious question. i've been asking it to the people i know in real life, but sometimes i feel like i know and like you guys better. so here it goes. i'm currently at a university (well, college) in pennsylvania. i like it in general, i like it as much as i'm going to like any college. the campus is beautiful, the facilities are nice, they have a GREAT year abroad program...i could go on and on about the nice things here. the problem is that they don't offer my major here, which is film. i knew this going in, but thought i would stick it out or major in something else. but now i know that there's nothing else i would ever major in, because film is something i've decided to pursue until it's blatantly obvious i'm not getting anywhere. i have the option of creating my own program of study here, but i know that in the end i could get a much better education in film somewhere else that could mean better graduate school opportunities and better jobs in the future, as well as a better education. i've pretty much decided to apply to this other school, which was my number-one school to begin with, but i didn't get in the first time. i think i'll have a bit of a better chance this time. while they have a great film program, i wouldn't have to study anything besides film there, and it's much closer to where i live (which is a good thing), frankly there are some things that aren't as good as the place i'm in now. so: what would you do? would you go to the school with the better academics, or would you stay where you are because you really like it and don't want to transfer out and change up everything again? i just don't have any idea what i'd do in december if i find out that i did in fact get into this other uni with the great film program, and i want to see what other people would do.

PRISON.
um, the fact that we all seem to be between the ages of 12 and 23 (with exceptions) makes me think that the answer will be a resounding NO. but i once took a fieldtrip to a jail with my kindergarten. it gave me nightmares. and i'm currently reading a book about the soviet gulag system. which also made me have a dream about a labor camp last week.

Radiohead
kid A. it's the best thing since sliced bread. no, pringles :laugh3: i can't believe it took me so long to listen to that album. i was always a bit intimidated by its weirdness and was a bit afraid to check it out. but now it's one of the best things i've ever listened to ever. i think OK computer is overrated as an album, though it has amazing songs. "let down" is my favorite radiohead song out there.

Thalia ...twisted mind
i suppose i shouldn't feel too bad about hijacking threads today, since this one has been 8 pages of nothing related to the title.

It's getting hard to sit
i want a cat, but they make me a bit sneezy :( they're not good for doormrooms anyway. the only thing we can have are fish, which i'm actually deathly afraid of, so no pets for me. you can change positions in your chair as well. i never really sit in chairs properly anyway, which is why i prefer the bed. my teachers always gave me odd looks for sitting crosslegged in chairs in class or by having my knees to my chest.
-
It's getting hard to sit
dance to some music for a minute to get the blood flowing to your butt again, and then re-sit. or change chairs. i've spent probably 75% of my life sitting on a bed with a laptop on my lap. i think i'm a pro-sitter by now. though it's done some painful things to my body.

Whens the last time you rode a bike?
insomnia can hit me pretty bad some nights, so i like to get an early start to the night to make sure i can cram as many hours in as i can. it takes me ages to fall asleep. but when there's things like coldplaying, it makes it very hard to be responsible with my sleep schedule. i've spent probably more than 36 hours on here this week, when you add them all together.

The 'It's a Monday where I am' poll
whoa whoa whoa, ONE IN THE FREAKING AFTERNOON?! that blows my mind. and i looked at the time a few minutes ago, so i cheated a bit. 10:13 here, PM.

Whens the last time you rode a bike?
only 10PM here, but i'm crazy around the clock. but you people stay up LATE! if i've got to get up at 7 the next morning, i physically can't go to bed after 12:30 or i'm useless the next day. as much as i lurrrve coldplaying, i can't sacrifice sleep for it. schoolwork yes, but not sleep. right now i'm ignoring stalin for you crazies (who i love). (you crazies, NOT stalin). (oh goodness, maybe i should just leave).

The Official *Pringles* Thread
well, she doesn't do it all the time; it was more of an attention-getting thing when we were in middle school. once she ripped out a page of her textbook and ate it just to prove to us that she would. i've had a few bites of notebook paper just because i knew it wouldnt hurt me, but it's just a pointless thing to do. but glossy-paged, color textbook pages? blech. MMM...PRINGLES. (the next time i get severely off-topic, someone needs to e-slap me)

Whens the last time you rode a bike?
you HAVE to be kidding. i'm gullible, but not that gullible. and that might be computer generated; i just did a google image search and thought it looked cool
-
Whens the last time you rode a bike?
haha, your wording is almost identical to mine! :P now THIS is a kick-ass bike:
-
Whens the last time you rode a bike?
you DON'T! do you?! duuuude.
-
Whens the last time you rode a bike?
the difference is that you were probably good at them when you did them. me, i have no skill or even motivation. i don't care who wins; just get me out of there faster so i can go read or listen to music or something. HAHAHA! is that bird ACTUALLY riding a little bike?! i have no idea how people used to get on these, let alone ride them.

Whens the last time you rode a bike?
he's recovered, but he's also turned into a complete asshole. i sometimes wonder if the injury was related :P hockey's fun to play and is the only sport besides volleyball that i have any remote ability in whatsoever but that's just because i grew up in a hockey household. i'm also the most unathletic person that ever lived, so i just like watching my brother and my dad and NHL, mostly. football...i got completely addicted to the FIFA world cup two summers ago. it was ridiculous. soooo...how about them bicycles? :D
