Your Impressions of X&Y After Hearing it all, Finally
oh my GOD, emma! how are you DOING THAT??? i could never never ever make it without shrivelling up. and you could be without CP until like, next summer!!! i also found coldplay through X&Y (though i was aware of their existence and even their talent beforehand), but i think it wasnt nearly as good as AROBTTH (which i listened to a few days after the release of X&Y) and parachutes (which i didnt listen to until august 5 2005!!) hahahaha oh man, 51 years of coldplay! theyll be what, around 81 then? if theyre still making music then as they are now, then there will have had to be some sort of huge advancement in the life-span area of science :laugh1: its a bit sad to think that they probably wont make as many as 17 albums unless they significantly change their recording habits.

NEW STARS ON COLDPLAY.COM
hmm. very interesting theory on "leftright..." vs. "prospekt's march." i think you might have something there! :idea2: but i personally dont think the entire album will be called prospekt. at least not now. i think they havent told us every single song that will end up on it, and one of those unknown titles will end up being the album title. i kind of hope im right, too, because i dont really think any of the song names would make a very good album title. im going between thinking they're right on schedule for a march/april '08 release or thinking that we wont see anything until summer at the earliest. its like being bipolar or something :P  ---> :disappointed: lol

Analysing the upcoming 4th LP
are the singles supposed to come out after the album? i was kind of really hoping they would before...but im kind of confused on that whole matter. does that mean there wont be any singles off the album at all? thatll make me a bit sad, because i do love b-sides. i think now, after reading today's entry, that this is going to take longer than we expected. :bigcry: oh, and...1000TH POST!!!

How would I go about doing this...
ditto about the excitement. all my talk here about the next tour and the next album seem to be tricking me into thinking that the album is going to be here very fast! alas, im beginning to believe its going to take longer than i originally thought. as for concert-friend making: that's my mom's specialty :P. i seem to always be next to someone thats just a passing fan, not a fanatic of whatever band we're seeing. but my mom...she's got so many friends from pearl jam concerts!

today i woke up and felt kind of inexplicably excited. because im so freakishly obsessed, i automatically thought "maybe we'll be getting some coldplay news today!" but i didnt have time to check here or the official site before i went to work. so i come home and find A NEW PROSPEKT ENTRY!! it wasnt exactly what i was looking for (i want the DATE, and this entry makes me think the whole thing will take longer than we're expecting), but i kind of freak myself out with these gut feelings i have about things.

NEW STARS ON COLDPLAY.COM
i had a feeling following me around all day today that there's something new on the website from the moment i woke up, but then i had to go to work all day and didnt have time to check! yes, im a freak, but i was RIGHT! but gaaaaaah, it sounds to me like this is going to take longer than i expected. im not that hopeful for march/april anymore, i dont think. i alternate between thinking thats fine, i want the best album possible, and being so impatient i want to tear my hair out. if theyre still recording and if chris is writing new songs all the time, i doubt THEY have a cocnrete release date in mind, either. but it all sounds so freaking amazing i just want to have it RIGHT NOW. im half considering bopping over to manhattan right now and tracking them down. i can be there in an hour if anyone wants to join :laugh1: :P

of all the concerts ive planned to go in a group, its never worked out and its been me and one other friend and sometimes my mom if shes into the band as well. i think its better that way, anyway. in a group you tend to be less excited (at least i am) because im worried theyll think im a loser if i go all out and act as excited as i feel, and then i tend to start believing what everyone else says about the concert, even if they say it was crappy and i think it was brilliant. and putting $600 of tickets on your card is not exactly fun, even if they do all show up by some miracle :P. oh, and i figure if you want primo seats, youre going to pay somewhere between $150 and $400, probably on a site like stubhub or ebay. im trying to do that as well this time around, but im planning to get the best seats i can on ticketmaster FIRST and then search ebay and stubhub for deals on amazingly good seats in the next few days after that. you can always sell the worse seats: someone's usually happy to take them.

Your Impressions of X&Y After Hearing it all, Finally
its funny how opinions change over time. i thought X&Y was the best thing since sliced bread until i saw coldplay live a month later and then immersed myself in AROBTTH and parachutes. and my opinion of it was turned on its head. but to me, as long as the album isnt total crap, not much beats the excitement of new material from a favorite band. as long as they dont go all gangsta rap or techno or completely electronic or abandon melody or something, im not going to hate it and im going to be able to appreciate it because its coldplay. its just a question of where LP4 falls in my ranking of coldplay works and in albums of all time. im hoping its high up there.

How would I go about doing this...
Ok. this is my area. big concerts and buying off ticketmaster are my things :D first of all, the greater the number of tickets you're looking to buy, the less likely the chances are of you getting them. yes, usually the limit is between 6 and 8 at one time off the ticketmaster site, but if you select the "6" option or whatever from the dropdown menu, even literally 30 freaking seconds into the sale, you are WAY lessening your chances of getting ANY seats returned. finding two seats together is usually impossible enough. the problem usually isnt that the seats dont exist together (even though concerts like coldplay sell out in a matter of minutes), its that soooo many people are searching the site for tickets at one time that their server is bogged down and it doesnt process exact requests nearly as well. but you cant cant cant wait! literally the second the clock turns the time the tickets go on sale, you have to click and search. my best advice is: BUY THE FIRST TICKETS THAT ARE RETURNED IN YOUR SEARCH. even if theyre somewhat crappy, even if theyre not what you were looking for. because if you DONT follow those through, theres no saying that ANY MORE will come back, and im of the mind that its a bazillion times better to be there in an undesireable location than not to be there at all. i would also reccomend searching for maximum two tickets at a time for a number of reasons. for one, it increases your chances of getting seats. two, like someone said before, it really doesnt matter who youre next to at a concert because once it gets going youre not going to talk to them anyway. and three, i dont know about your friends, but ive tried to do similar things many atime when a biggish group of my friends and i were going to a concert and then once we got the tickets, like the week before they all flaked and i was left with extra tickets that I had to pay for. which sucks. im not sure how old you are but if youre around my age (im 18) and your friends are teenagers, i would say theres a damn good chance that at least ONE of them will not be able to go or will drop out of the plans for some reason. of course, all these things are concerning buying off ticketmaster. ebay and stubhub and the like are a WHOLE different kettle of fish, but im pretty experienced with those methods too. seriously, PM me whenever (especially when its getting down to buying time, whenever that may be  ) and ill tell you what i know. ive gotten tickets to EVERY concert ive ever wanted to go to by some means, and thats a hell of a lot of concerts. and only ONCE did i have to resort to ebay/stubhub to find any tickets at all. so there is a little of my infinite wisdom concerning online ticket-buying :P :laugh1:

*still off topic* me too. i loved the album before i got to it, but ohh my god, it just MADE the album for me. i think it was that song above all the rest that made me go re-check out radiohead again, and rather than just respecting them and liking a select few songs., this time ive become close to obsessed.

:dead::dead::dead::dead::dead::dead::dead::dead: ohhh my god. this one knocked me over. Thanks! [gise: that's my favorite radiohead lyric ever in your sig :D]

I used to love Coldplay but now I don't
ive got to admit that i fall more into the category of "because of in rainbows"...though i also "found out" about radiohead through this forum as well. i mean, i knew about them and everything, but it was this forum that made me check them out. initially (like last year :\) i wasnt that impressed, although i really respected it all, and i felt like i just didnt "get" most of anything beyond the bends. but in rainbows made me re-check them out, and now im in LOVE. and chuck: i agree theyre definitiely an aquired taste, and i have to say that i originally thought most people went for them mostly because they were off the beaten path, but i now think theyre incredibly talented, almost geniusly so. of course, we've all got our opinions, but comparing RHCP and radiohead...? wow.

Random Coldplay thoughts...
god i post in this thread a lot  im currently in the process of getting aquainted with radiohead, mostly because of in rainbows, because though i respected them before, i never really "got" them. but now i feel like i totally do and am currently surrounding myself with them. ANYWAY today i was in borders and i was looking for radiohead books in the music section, and i found 2. in the process of looking them over, i went to the index of one of them and found that coldplay/chris martin was mentioned about seven times, so of COURSE i had to go find those bits in the text ;). but i got quite angry when i saw that every SINGLE reference to them was in a derogatory, degrading sort of way, basically insinuating that they are uninspired, childish, and common and anyone that listens to them is merely buying into the tides of mass media and collective opinion. there was even a paragraph-long quote from chris (which ive never seen before) put up against one by thom yorke concerning politics and the state of the world, and the author basically pinned chris as a naive airhead that couldnt possibly produce worthwhile music because of this one quote. the quote wasnt even stupid! the author based his entire argument, seemingly, on the fact that chris so happened to mention Harry Potter and muggles in his quote. it just really burned me up, because the initial (note the word INITIAL, meaning that i dont think this anymore) impression i got of the general radiohead fan base a few years ago was that simply because radiohead is less "mainstream" than lots of other reputible and successful bands, they are somehow intrinsically of more value. now that im a huge fan, ive completely dropped this opinion, but today i was reminded of it. ive always believed that its one thing to have an opinion, but if youre going to assert that your opinion is the final decision on the matter than its not even worth listening to, and this guy wasnt treating his disdain of coldplay as an opinion: he talked about it like them being totally useless was a irrefutable fact. needless to say, i bought the other book, which only has one or two passing references to coldplay, and not in undeservingly negative ways. oops...:\ [/rant]

bEST cOLDPAY SONG LYRICALLLY
its not that i dont agree with you on your last opinion, im just regretably...not as optimistic. i cant articulate why, nor do i even know if theres a reason behind it, but i think it might have something to do with AROBTTH being my absolute favorite album of all time. and unlike other albums that i have previously claimed as my #1 (revolver, to be specific), i just have the gut feeling that no matter what anybody else puts out in my lifetime, even coldplay, it cannot top that album for me. they may come close, but i have a hard time believing anything will ever usurp it. AROBTTH is pretty much the epitome of music for me, as much as i love other things. and while im certainly not going to be disappointed by anything less, i just have a hard time believing that im going to be as blown away by their next effort. however, im completely open to it, and if they do, i think i may go into an existential sort of coma for a little while :laugh1: and of course the musical quality is my top concern: i would have no other reason to know who they are without that, and no other reason to love them (or at least to initially love them: theyre great people, but what i mean is that i would probably have no way of knowing that if i hadnt been as captivated by their music first). however, erm...on the flip side of that coin, im quite girlishly obsessed with chris martin . im usually not that person, but all bets are off with him. and ashamedly, i must admit that back in 2002/2003 before i knew anything about coldplay besides the existence of the song "clocks" (which, for the record, i liked and found incredibly innovative, even if i was too obsessed with the beatles to really care) it was, erm, chris's adorably wacky brand of dance moves in the "clocks" video that got me initially. and its what made me keep watching the "speed of sound" video that first time it came on the air (but i was in love with EVERYTHING about them at the end of the 4 minutes, 37 seconds). :stunned: so theres my slightly embarrassing confession for the night. ok, not embarrassing, but i think my girlish obsession could slightly interfere with my credibility as a fully respected participant in such board discussions :laugh1: and for the millionth time, i talk too much.

James Blunt ripped off The Scientist...I think
i dont think you can use the term "ripped" for that. they got explicit permission, credited their source, and turned it into something quite different from the original despite using the guitar riff. they get big points in my book for doing it the way that they did ;). even if i do think that the demo-ed lyrics were better.

bEST cOLDPAY SONG LYRICALLLY
sometimes i think we must have very similar brains with the things we post ;). if im not mistaken, we've agreed a few times before as well. and those are all my favorites from the X&Y era as well, sleeping sun in particular. if the new stuff is in the same vein as that "most recent" release of theirs [sleeping sun, i mean], then im expecting to love it. :D

Chris Martin Sound-alikes thread
its not just you. matt kearney sounds FREAKISHLY like chris to me. i almost had a heart attack the first time it came up on my friends ipod: i thought it was coldplay material that i had somehow never heard before!

bEST cOLDPAY SONG LYRICALLLY
i also completely agree. i think that was perhaps the biggest let-down of X&Y for me, because i think lyrical quality is huge. im nowhere near an X&Y-hater, so i dont mean that to sound bad, but parachutes and AROBTTH is where its at for lyrics to me. the X&Y lyrics are so...oblique and unpoetic. though i love love love the line "the streets youre walking on, a thousand houses long" from swallowed in the sea. that line always gets me. oh oh oh, i cant believe i forgot! "your love means everything"! i know its not technically a coldplay song, per se, but to my knowledge chris is the one that wrote the lyrics to it and i LOVE that song an inordinate amount. the lyrics sound very chris-ish, anyway, and when googling it there were a couple different sites claiming chris wrote them. [and if chris DIDN'T write those lyrics for a fact, dont tell me!! itll just let me down]

:dead: sometimes i just want to keel over from looking at him. and im usually not a girly, obsessive person, but with chris all bets are off. god, hes adorable. in that first one, i thought for a second that was gwyneth in the background, but then i was like "nahhh, cant be. shes with chris." :laugh1:

Where are they now?
this happened to me when i was in london! i was there, and coldplay was in america, i think even new york at the time! of course, i didnt even know really who they were at the time...besides that "clocks" was on the radio every 20 seconds and the almost-bald lead singer had some crazy dance moves. STILL, though. grr. :laugh1:
