  1. I think it's the colors that get me the most, and the contrast of the checkerboard. It's just...loud. I get tired of looking at it quickly. It's probably meant ironically, and whatever floats their boat, of course, but the more I see it the more I don't like it. It just brings to mind the trendy hipster bands that I don't get the big deal over rather than something more classic looking, like I think their other album covers are. I look at that and think Wavves, not Strokes. But like I say, I think album art can only help an album, not harm it. It's the music that matters. I just won't be hanging a poster of this on my wall, haha.
  2. Yeahhhh, I'm not really a fan of the album art, but . I feel like album art can only add to a record, not take away from it, so I'm not really bothered. My retinas are, though
  3. I'll be the first to admit I'm still affected by the novelty of it, but I honestly believe it beat my admittedly high expectations. I completely agree with Lore: it sounds so much like them, but yet still fresh. And there's also something about it that makes my heart want to explode, which I think is more than novelty, because I don't usually feel this way about first singles historically, even with Coldplay and The Strokes in the past. I think it's going to stand the test of time as one of my favorites, but I'm not going to make a final judgement of it for some time.
  4. I guarantee it won't be sent for hours and hours. Anyone remember the Violet Hill release? This is the same situation, and I didn't get my email from coldplay.com til ten hours later. For now: go here to get directed to a 320kps quality version while you're waiting for your email (not a direct download link, mods).
  5. OH MY GOD :bigcry: Once I get out of the honeymoon phase in like a week I'll be more critical and coherent, but for now I'm just a fat mess of love
  6. I feel like my heart is going to explode through my face. :freak: :bigcry: :bomb:
  7. "Under Cover of Darkness" will be released tomorrow at 7:35PM GMT for free download from thestrokes.com! It'll only be up for 48 hours, and then you can start to download it from iTunes/Amazon on the 15th. They're setting themselves up for disaster, of course, just like Coldplay did with the Violet Hill release in 08, but Zane Lowe will be playing the song on BBC Radio 1 at about 7:30 GMT, so there will at least be radio rips while the official site is crashing and burning. Also, Zane will be interviewing a Stroke . I'm trying to keep my cool, but I'm just WAY too excited for this :bigcry: :bomb:.
  8. UGH, the fact that this is even reportable news just makes me cringe. And the fact that someone (by the looks of it) bothered to ask the Oracle!. It's a sad, rough situation, and my heart goes out to their family, of course. But jeez, leave them alone .
  9. No. I get kind of frustrated when I see people getting so hurt over it...you don't need anyone else's approval, guys! And as Coldplay fans, I bet we've all gotten our fair share of people insulting them, especially from the media, so we need extra thick skins. I actually get more frustrated when people get angry when other people like the same bands as they do, though. Whether a certain person likes them or not shouldn't have any bearing on how you feel about them.
  10. I feel like if this were more than a rumor, we'd hear it from more than one source. Is Europa Press a major news source in Spain? If it is, I'll trust it more, but I just figure that if this was actual news, it would come from a music publication out of London or something, or at least also be published there, because that's where the boys are.
  11. That was my first reaction too: she did a great job with it on Glee, but enough already. I figure her publicists want to milk it, though, because it was the first bit of positive press she's had in a while. Still, they're not going to get the world to like her by jamming it down everyones' throats .
  12. Haha, yeah, I guess that's what I meant. It's just not my reason for wanting to go to a festival, I guess, so for selfish reasons I'll be miffed if the lineup does involve U2/Coldplay/Rolling Stones/Radiohead/similar. I'd be willing to do the experience for the music, not really the other way around, but that's just me . Whiiiiich is why I've sold my soul to go to Coachella this year :P. Still, though, I'm in England at the time and everything, so if the lineup/headliners are going to be amazing, I'm going to be a bit sad.
  13. No matter what, I have a feeling the lineup is going to leave me in tears over the fact I didn't get tickets :bomb: Seriously, Coldplay/U2/Radiohead/The Rolling Stones...I won't be able to handle just sitting alone in my room only three hours away if the rumors end up being true. I hate the fact they don't announce the lineup before passes go onsale. That is such a risk to me, but I guess it's wildly popular regardless.
  14. I love that story because I love Twilight-Zoney coincidences like that...aaand it's also adorable :wacky:. And I'm the same way, i can rattle off ridiculous facts and dates about Coldplay and things in my own life like an encyclopedia, but sit me in front of a history exam and I'll have no idea about anything .
  15. ^I think you're onto something.
  16. It sold out?! Thank God I was paranoid and got mine the fricking second they went onsale. With the lineup and all the hype around it this year, I didn't want to take my chances. :sweatdrop:
  17. I agree to an extent, but I thought "Me and Tennessee" was a bit deeper, so that's why I championed it, but ah well. And I agree he probably wouldn't have attended, but part of me thought he might just because it looks kind of assholish not to go, but .
  18. I wasn't a huge, huge fan of the song itself, I think because I'm not a fan of country music at all, but when I'm thinking objectively, I can see why it was nominated, and I think it's pretty good for what it is. Also, I think it's very "Chris." I feel like a jerk saying it, because I really would have been thrilled if he got nominated or won, but really I was interested to see how he would handle the situation because it would kind of turn him into a hypocrite.
  19. Dang . I was actually looking forward to him maybe going and maybe winning and having to give the world's most awkward acceptance speech . And then what to do about the whole "I may have to be seen with my wife" thing . And the "but it's credited to A. Martin" thing.
  20. :bigcry: That has been my day, fangirling about The Strokes and spewing my excitement all over various internet venues.
  21. I think it's pretty underrated, even if I do think it could be a bit shorter by one or two songs. Nikolai said that Angles sounds like it should have been released between ROF and FIOE, though, so I can't wait to hear what that sounds like. Oh my God, seriously, there's nothing I'm looking forward to more these days than this besides seeing them & tons of others at Coachella itself. I'm probably going to get pretty overexcited in this thread at points.
  22. Evidently the first single, "Under Cover of Darkness," will be out on Feb. 9!   Even though I'm not sure if they mean it will be released for download then, or if it will just be played on radio, because it was a Seattle radio station that broke that news.
  23. I think the only reason they wouldn't play new material at the festivals if the album doesn't come out before then is because EMI will have something to say about it (or the band just doesn't want to). But to book that many gigs to just play the same songs they just got off the road playing wouldn't be right. So it's just a question of whether the album comes out before or after. I don't really think they'd "test" anything at the festivals like that French singer mentioned above, I think they'd just premiere them and then come out with the album in August or so once they settle back down and have time to go back and do all the promotional stuff. At the same time, though, these guys are Coldplay and can kind of reinvent album promotion if they really want and postpone a lot of the video/special gig stuff. Since they're still under EMI, they probably have to play by the rules a bit, though. I just think it sounds like it's going to be out before they get rolling live, probably in early June like their last two albums, right before the first festival on June 11. VLV worked in a similar way: they had a few gigs, the free ones, sprinkled throughout that June right after the release, and did promo stuff etc. in between them. Their June and July look very similar this coming year, with the few festivals scattered around with space between to get other promotional things done.
  24. I defend Jonny's need for wearing the hat 24/7, but Chris still has time before he needs to turn into The Edge so it needs to go  :P A good temporary solution to his hair problem would be growing it out to cover the thinning patches, HINT HINT, CHRIS.
  25. I kind of forget that FIOE wasn't received well, in comparison to the others. I love it so much that I just forget it's not "supposed" to be as good, but I guess they probably should have shortened it by one or two songs (I'm not that hot on 15 Minutes or Killing Lies) to improve upon it as a whole album. And I think YOLO should have been the first single as opposed to the last to kick things off a bit. I also feel like releasing Razorblade as a single would have helped in some ways. Agree that I think this album will determine a lot for them, but I have really high hopes . I trust them quite a bit, even though their method and dynamic completely changed this time around. UGH, 59 days :bomb:.
