  1. THANKS, bellynelly! :nice: I have to say I didn't realize you guys had the big all-purpose stores like we did...I had always heard of Brits and Europeans being amazed by places like Target and Costco and Wal-Mart that I assumed that meant you guys didn't have anything comparable, but if I can buy cheapo sheets and towels from supermarkets, that's perfect! The IKEA thing isn't essential, but for some reason I just love IKEA and I know I can get what I need there, so it would have been helpful if there had been one close to Norwich, but if there isn't, I know I can find everything in other places. THANKS AGAIN! :D
  2. LORE, DON'T TEMPT ME TO FLY DOWN TO CHILE JUST TO BUY NOTEBOOKS. Radiohead ones too?! If they made Phoenix and/or Sigur Ros ones, I'd probably have to go there like, now.
  3. I was always jealous of your Coldplay notebooks, Lore :P.
  4. Thanks, Jack! I know I'll be able to find everything I need and more, I guess it's just weird to not know anywhere off the top of my head to buy the most basic things in :P. Question, though: Aren't Tesco/ASDA etc just supermarkets, or do they sell things like towels and other home goods as well? I've never been really clear on that, whether they're more just for food or actually like a scaled-back Target or whatever.
  5. ^^Ooh, good to hear . I don't know where I've heard that, but I don't think they had it in France when I was there, either, so I got worried :P.
  6. *Raises hand* My London one is amazing, and it's only been partially used up til now. I can't wait to fill it up starting next month :wideeyed:.
  7. Oops, I thought of more questions :P. OK, this is more for curiosity's sake than necessity, since I obviously could find comparable products from other brands, but I was wondering if these things exist in England: I'm espeicailly curious about the Special K...I have some dietary restrictions, for lack of a better term, and I basically live on Special K bars :P. I also have heard microwave popcorn isn't as commonplace in Europe...? Is this true?
  8. Year abroad for the whole year, yes, but since I've never been happy with my home university and I think several of the things I don't like about it will change at my British university, if I decide I really like it there, I think I'm going to try to transfer there for my last year :P. That's counting my chickens before they hatch, though.
  9. Um, that's not stalkerish or anything...:uhoh: I've sent in a bunch of questions recently...and nothing :disappointed:.
  10. Thanks :nice:. And I'm pretty sure it's illegal for me to drive over there anyway! I could have driven in Holland when I lived there for up to three months, and I moved the car down the block once and almost killed three cyclists in the process .
  11. Hi :nice: I've known I was moving to England for school for quite a while now, but now that I'm leaving in about three weeks (:freak:), I've begun to think about things like "where can I buy towels?" and mundane things like that. A while ago, Mich suggested that I start a thread in the Lounge to ask my random little questions for Brit Coldplayers to answer if they can, and I thought that was a brilliant idea :D. I bet I'll be asking questions in here all year when I think of them and can't figure things out for myself. It's nicer to ask people that actually live there than to just do sometimes-fruitless Google searches. For the first month, I'm going to be living in London, and then I'm moving up to Norwich for university, and I pretty much have to buy everything I'm going to need besides the clothes I'm bringing with me. Being American, whenever I need pretty much anything, I just go over to Target and they almost always have it, but I don't think huge stores that sell EVERYTHING at good prices exist over there in the same way they do over here. So. My first mundane questions: 1. Is there a UK chain of stores that sells linens at student-friendly prices? I need sheets, towels, pillows, blankets, bedspreads, everything. In America, I would just go to Target and get cheap ones, or go to Bed, Bath, and Beyond. 2. Same question for basic, cheap kitchen essentials. I have to do all my own cooking, which scares the crap out of me, but I hear that's a pretty standard thing in British universities? I might have some stuff shipped to me from my parents, but I assume I'll have to supplement some things. For those questions, I'll take anything that anyone knows of that happens to be in Norwich, or just big chain sorts of stores that probably have a location near Norwich. And my third question: 3. I love IKEA, and they have good prices. However, I'm not so good with town names in the UK, and it's not always easy to determine exactly how far places are from each other on the internet. These are the IKEA locations in the UK, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if any of these places are reasonably close to Norwich (obviously I know where London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Southampton, and Edinburgh are :P): Belfast Cardiff Croydon (London) Edmonton (London) Glasgow Leeds Milton Keynes (Bletchley) Southampton Wednesbury (Birmingham) Bristol Coventry Edinburgh Gateshead (Newcastle) Lakeside (London) Manchester (Ashton-Under-Lyne) Nottingham Warrington Wembley (London) Thanks for putting up with me :P. I'll be back with more, probably in the few days before I'm leaving and once I get there and have no idea what I'm doing.
  12. Legal pads! I don't know why they're yellow, but they come in white and pink too. I just tend to use yellow because it's more interesting :P. I used to use small legal pads a lot, and I still do use them for longer lists and stuff. It's just like scrap paper with lines for random notes and stuff...it doesn't really need to be thick :P.
  13. OK, I finally ordered the second-edition ones, one for me and one for Semy, who was having issues with Cafepress . I just hope my dad doesn't decide to look at my debit card statement in the near future :P. I was in the craft store the other day looking for the right materials to customize my shirt the way I had in mind, but they didn't have what I was looking for . I'll either just leave it as-is or come up with a plan B.
  14. I also really like how they kind of show how it was made at the very beginning and end, where they're setting it up and when Chris stands up and talks to the other guys in the room :D. I think that's adorable. I also think that this would almost be better suited to be put infront of more kid-friendly movies rather than Bruno and the Proposal! I think kids would get such a kick out of this :nice:.
  15. I own more pens than God, I think. I found thousands while cleaning today :disappointed:. Notebooks are my biggest weakness, though. I just can't get enough of them :P. EDIT: 8,000th post
  16. I feel like I'm one of the only ones that can see it...and you can't embed it like you can with the preview :\ But OMG SO ADORABLE! :nice:. It definitely ranks among my favorite Coldplay videos :wacky:.
  17. AHH, I love Sharpies! I wish they didn't bleed through basically all paper, though...I'd use them for everything if they didn't. I have a 15-color set made by Bic, and they're basically my life. I think I'll take a picture of my usual supplies tomorrow, since I'll have nothing better to do :P. Today I was cleaning my room a bit, though, and I came across all my old Gelly Roll pens from middle school. Did anyone else have those? I was obsessed. All my lightning ones and stardust ones still work!
  18. *Raises hand as one of the nerds that asked for this thread* For some reason, stationery, especially notebooks and pens, have always made me nerdily happy. I've recently discovered that I'm not the only one like this :P. My new planner starts in the beginning of August, and I might post pics of that and my newly-decorated journal when they're finished :D Jenn, your Moleskine is awesome :wacky:. I use them for journals more than for planners, for some reason, but they honestly make me drool.
  19. YES, JENN, DO IT :wideeyed:  You got me so freaking addicted to Organizers on LJ too :P.
  20. I don't really think my few, minimal encounters with celebrities count as "meeting" them at all, but Bono once drove by me and my friend on a city street, and when he was at a stoplight, he rolled down his window and waved to me and my friend after a U2 concert :P. I also shook Barack Obama's hand twice, and tried to stutter out something, and he thanked me for coming to the rally and walked away before I could really say anything to him besides "H-h-hello, s-s-sir!" The fact that he made eye contact thrilled me at the time :P. Zachary Quinto came to my university last fall, and I said hi to him. Will Champion gave our group of Coldplaying girls the thumbs up in Hartford, and Guy and Chris laughed at us too :P. But I don't really count any of those experiences as meeting...all I really want is like a three-minute chat with Chris Martin, and one of those classic "I MET CHRIS" pictures where he looks gorgeous and I look like a tool grinning with a possessed look and oily face .
  21. :wideeyed: Let's not get me too excited :P.
  22. Once again, I second Grace :D. It'll probably just be the three of us posting in it, though...I don't think most people are as nerdy about pens/notebooks/stationery/organization as we are :P
  23. I second Grace's request: MOLESKINE LOVE :wideeyed:. Though I don't know if this is the appropriate thread...:uhoh:.
  24. Because I feel I need to say my bit: 1) OMG THANK YOU TO THE GUY(S) LEAKING THESE . I was late to the party, and I don't really think I'm clear on who/how/why we're getting these demos, but YAY and THANKS either way :D. 2) Please leak the rest if possible! 3) Selling them is ridiculous, illegal, and immoral. JUST LEAK THEM. But MAJOR SQUEE
  25. I actually met Zachary Quinto...he came to my college to promote Barack Obama, which made him all the more attractive in my mind :wacky:. But really, he his even better-looking up close and in person.
