  1. Haha, well I definitely won't be driving this year at all, so I'm not too worried, but the idea driving on the other side terrifies me. However, if I stick around for another year (where I still won't have a car, but graduating from a British university and all that might lead to me staying in England for a while for jobs etc. :sneaky:), I might have to face that eventually :wreck:. I actually learned to drive on manual transmission, so I know the basics, but I haven't done it in years, so I figure that the next time I'm forced to drive manual, I'll stall the thing about 400 times.
  2. Thanks for the links, guys :nice:. It's interesting, I'm noticing British carriers don't seem to have a lot of phones with QWERTY keyboards...that's all the rage here now, and I'm totally spoiled by mine that I wonder how hard it'll be for me to go back to regular texting! :P Oh, how hard life is .
  3. There's already one I might rope into the gig . But my whole study group is going up in one big bus, and I'll only have two (very large) suitcases and a carryon bag anyway, so the moving shouldn't be the hard part :P. Sad I'll have to miss this...OF ALL WEEKENDS, WHY DOES MY UNI HAVE TO START ON THIS ONE?!
  4. I would LOVE to be able to go, but I definitely can't make this one :bigcry:. I'm moving to Norwich that day, so it's out...if it was that WEDNESDAY night, however, I could make it *hint hint* (nah, just kidding :P).
  5. I am TOTALLY interested, yet I have no idea whether or not I can go yet, so I voted "no". It all depends what's going on back at uni that day in terms of orientation...because it's a Sunday, I tend to say "oh, there won't be much going on, I can totally stay in London during the day," but because it's the day before the first day of classes, I figure there'll be something going on I have to be there for (and I might already get my head chopped off for playing hooky on Saturday for the show, so I might have to save face by attending whatever mundane things are on for Sunday ) [/long explanation] If help is needed with organization etc, however, I could definitely lend a hand...I'll just then be SUPER sad if I can't make it :P.
  6. I wish I could do that, but I'm going to be in London for a month before I even get to the halls, and I really need a phone in London from day one :P. I just hope whatever I go with won't have a problem in Norwich! 110 volts is right, I think...I once got zapped, and I'll tell you, I do NOT plan on getting electrocuted in England with twice as much power! :wreck:. I have three adapters, so no worries there, as I'll need them for my computer and chargers for cameras and iPods etc, but I just find some things don't run at top performance on adapters at all...I can't get away from using one for my computer, but batteries take ages longer to charge, and it made my hair straightener wonky. As for phones, I'll definitely shop around on my first day there, but through doing preliminary internet research, I found a deal with O2 that allows me to get a certain number of free international call minutes every time I top up my account with certain amounts each month. That'll be great to use my regular phone to occasionally call home rather than having to use calling cards and Skype every time! Thanks a lot for bearing with me, guys :nice:. It's nicer and more immediate to get answers/suggestions from real people rather than sorting through Google results each time :D.
  7. I did that last year when I lived in Holland and when I visited England...because you guys have SO much more energy coursing through your regular outlets (twice as much as here, I think!), the hair straightener tended to get really confused and didn't know when to stop heating up and go into various automatic settings, and I found it wasn't as effective as it was in an American plug...it would just blink and blink and blink and act crazy :P. I'm going to have enough to plug into travel adapters anyway, I think...I can always get more, but they're so heavy and bulky, and usually they cover up the other outlet in the socket on the wall as well.
  8. Also: cell phones (mobiles). I've been doing research online and I'm doing pay-as-you-go...I think there's a service with O2 that looks good for me. Over here in America, service coverage with some carriers isn't so good (T Mobile over here isn't nearly as good as Verizon and AT&T for coverage, for example). Maybe our coverage issues have a lot to do with how fricking huge our country is, but are all UK mobile carriers pretty much the same in terms of service coverage, or are some companies crap like they are here?
  9. Haha, I'm DEFINITELY not going for posh stuff, but thanks :D. I'm looking for the absolute cheapest stuff I can find, as long as it's functional and will last a year of use. I assume I can buy hairdryers/straighteners in everyday drug stores like Boots and Superdrug? I remember the first time I went to England when I was younger, your drug stores were way nicer and had more stuff than a lot of ours, so I'm not worried, but one of the first things I need to buy on my first day there is a good hair straightener with a British plug :P.
  10. Aww, you must've suggested it too Alison :nice:. THANKS! :D I'm glad to hear about the Special K...if they have the whole line of stuff, I'll be set forever :P. I have no idea how to cook and that stuff has saved my life time and time again . And nah, I wouldn't be getting furniture at IKEA, I just was thinking that if there was one in/near Norwich, I know I can get super cheap plates/silverware/cooking stuff/lamps etc. Of course I can replicate that stuff elsewhere, but in America, the only place I've ever seen a small lamp for less than $15 is IKEA (my desk lamp I got there for $3...I've never seen better prices for decent-quality stuff), so I thought if there was one in my area, I could get everything I need for the cheapest prices I can think of without having to do currency conversions in my head too much :P. Anyway, it's not essential. Thanks for all the suggestions :nice:. This whole thing still feels pretty far away to me, since my family and I are going to Canada next week, and that's a big trip too. Once we're back, though, it's REALLY going to hit me that I have to get serious about packing and leaving :freak:.
  11. Texting while driving makes me CRAZY. My friends do it...I've actually ripped the phone out of one of their hands to stop them from doing it, and I yell at them every time I recieve a text while I know they're driving or they talk about it. I don't see why the risk is worth it. I don't even take or make calls while I'm driving unless it's from someone I'm travelling to meet at the time and I think they're going to change plans. And when I do, I use speakerphone.
  12. I was in TJ Maxx today (I really need to go to places like that more often), and I found this cute purple tote bag with butterflies on it that look a lot like the Coldplay butterfly confetti. It's huge, so I think it could be quite useful for travelling etc next year (and perhaps useful for Wembley...especially if I have to stow away a rain coat or other things we'll be using in line). Anyway, the last thing I need is a tote bag, so my mom and I walked away, but a few minutes later, "Yellow" came on the store PA and my mom looked at me and was like "It's a sign, I'll get you that butterfly bag". I just thought that was cute of her :P. [/Fangirl Coldplay story] I also got a second suitcase to move to England with...it's HUMUNGOUS, I can sit inside it, and it was only $100 . I don't know if that counts as fashion, though :P.
  13. ^Even though it's pretty much entirely dependent on what kind of tester you get, I bet you'll find it's easier than you think it'll be :nice:. I actually failed the first time, but I also had a 101-degree-F fever and what was assumed to be mono at the time :P. My tester was not amused or sympathetic :dozey:. However, the second time, I basically drove in a big circle with a super-nice tester, and he told me I passed before I even parked or anything :P. You're going to do fine :D.
  14. Once again, they can't be sold out, as long as CafePress is still in stock of yellow tshirts. However, the butterfly design will be removed from sale on August 1 to make way for the second design. It's a good idea to order before then.
  15. They came, they came! I won't take a picture for now since Mark already did that, but if anyone really wants to see how it fits or something, I can do that :D. I got a small for me and a medium for Semy, but I'm trying to keep that one wrapped up nicely so it doesn't get wrinkled or damaged before I see him :P. Eeee, they're so pretty :wacky:.
  16. AHH, I can't wait for this! I'm not a religious Simpsons watcher, so I can't make a call on how good it is these days, but I've always loved the show, and my brother is a Simpsons addict. I'm going to have to keep a lookout for when this airs :D. I assume, however, like with most shows, the UK is a season or two behind the US? I'll just have to hunt it down online once it airs, like I'll have to do with everything else I watch :P.
  17. Aww, thanks! I was in the process of finding your thread to ask for it, but I got distracted :P. Thanks!. I have such a love for sparklers :wideeyed:.
  18. I will once mine comes (hopefully before Thursday next week!), but someone will have probably beaten me to it by then :P. EDIT: According to the tracking info, the package is in my state as of yesterday! I have no idea why it wasn't delivered today...fingers crossed for tomorrow :D.
  19. Aww, what a cute video :wacky:. I like seeing Guy candid, because he always seems to totally clam up in group interviews, and in one-on-ones he's usually pretty businesslike. I'm going to have to ask Kiran for a GIF of the end with them jumping around like loons with the sparklers...so cute :nice:.
  20. I drive a 2000 Honda Civic, which I love :nice:. It looks exactly like this:
  21. Interesting bump  I use one now for some reason, but I used to use two. I don't know when/why I made the switch. Probably because in my college dorm, I got THREE pillowcases stolen out of my laundry in the course of a year (one was returned, but someone on my floor had a pillowcase fetish, I swear).
  22. ^That's exactly why Target is so great :nice:. The two that I posted are $34.99 each, so a little more than I originally thought, but still DAMN cheap for real Converse! This is a link to all the Converse One Star women's shoes...I hope you can access it from France! Where are you going in the US? Well, wherever you're going, there will probably be a Target not too far away, so you are probably in luck :D. http://www.target.com/Womens-Shoes-Converse-One-Star/b/ref=nav_t_spc_5_11/189-9966201-4199562?ie=UTF8&node=403871011 Keep in mind they have less colors in the stores, but yeah, Target is the best.
  23. The white ones and the silver ones I posted earlier in the thread? They're I think $30 US, so if the currency is in your favor (as I'm sure it is these days), I would think they'd be cheaper in the US! They're only available at Target, though, the Converse One Star brand, which is still legit Converse, but a lot cheaper :D. I think the two colors I posted are getting sold out in the stores, though, but they have so many other colors in the stores :nice:.
  24. Double post...the board always goes haywire at 2AM.
  25. Lots of chlorine = no germs :P. The way I like my pools, personally. I actually love the smell of pool chlorine. And the color of really clean pools. I'd love to have my own pool where there aren't any little kids screaming "MARCO POLO" and where you have to fight for a lounge chair. And where I know no one's been peeing in it.
