1. I think it's nice to have one thread per song, so keep on going. A quick tip though - change the font to Courier New when posting tabs. This way all the signs have the same width. I normally write the tabs in a editor like notepad or gedit (linux) and then paste it here. I use the code tags when posting chords and lyrics, 'cause for some reason Courier New ignores multiple blanks/spaces: Am Em D This is a testing thing blablabla vs Am Em D [no matter how many spaces there are between the chords, you'll end up with just one space when previewing/posting] This is a testing thing blablabla I noticed someone putting dots (...) between the chords, which is another solution: Am........Em............D This is a testing thing blablabla Anyway, I'll check out your above chords later when I have the time (exams, yay).

I gave it a shot - transcribed the piano part -> 1:30. 3. I tabbed out some parts now. I don't know which tuning Johnny uses in this song, but I did it in standard tuning: 1:02 & 2:05 e|-----1---------1--------| B|-------2---------2------| G|-1h3---------------3---1| D|------------------------| A|------------------------| E|------------------------| 1:23 & 2:36 & 2:46 e|---------------------------------| B|--------------------4----6-------| G|--3---3-5---5-6---6------------3-| D|----3-----3-----3----------------| A|---------------------------------| E|---------------------------------| 3:19 & 2:29 e|-------4------4------------------------| B|---------------------------------------| G|---5h6----5h6-------3p1h3-1----3p1h3-1-| D|---------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------| 3:24 & 3:34 e|-------4------4------------------------| B|---------------------------------------| G|---5h6----5h6-------3p1h3-----3p1h3----| D|--------------------------3----------3-| A|---------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------|
4. I think you did a good job! The bass was very nice. I think the tempo was a bit too slow, but I might be wrong.
5. Some time ago someone uploaded a chord book which had the chords for HYSTW in it. I don't have that book now, but when I had it I made my own .txt-file with the chords for this particular song. I also tabbed out what I heard Johnny played, so if you're interested I can put it up here too. Anyway - here goes the acoustic guitar part: Tuning: Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb Am: x02210 E7: 020100 F: 132211 Fmaj7: 102210 Em: 022000 Dadd9/F#: 2x0230 E: 022100 Asus2/4: x07700 Dm: xx0231 _________________________________________________ Am Are you missing something? 6. It's hard to pick one, and I tend to change my opinion on which I think is the best. If I have to choose one right now, it would be Eric Clapton's live version of Layla: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2sfelvHAlU (2:55 - 4:00) The feeling is amazing, the way he bends the strings and his vibratos ... wow!
7. Thanks for the comments. Yes, the Em7 I put in the verse may well be replaced by Em, though I think the Em7's brighter sound fits better (at least on the guitar). I added two chords to the chorus - Dsus4 and D5 (where the Dsus4 should only be strummed once and sound as a "bridge" between the D and the D5). Should spice things up a little.
8. I can only play the guitar, and my chord knowledge is limited. But anyway, this is my interpretation (thanks for the lyrics the_escapist ++): Chords used: Em7: 022033 C: x32010 G: 320033 D: xx0232 Dadd11: 200033 Dsus4: xx0233 D5: xx0235 Cadd9: x32033 G/B: x20033 Em: 022000 Bm: x24432 (0:00) Em7 C G D (x2) (0:12) Em7 C G Just because I'm losing D Em7 C G Doesn't mean I'm lost D Em7 C G Doesn't mean I'll stop D Em7 C G D Doesn't mean I would cross (0:36) Just because I'm hurting Doesn't mean I'm hurt Doesn't mean I didn't get What I deserved No better and no worse (0:58) G Dadd11 D Dsus4 D5 I just got lost Cadd9 G/B D Dsus4 D5 Every river that I tried to cross Cadd9 G/B D Every door I ever tried was locked Cadd9 Ohhh and I'm... G/B D Just waiting 'til the shine wears off (1:29) You might be a big fish In a little pond Doesn't mean you've won 'Cause a lonely con A bigger one (1:50) And you'll be lost Every river that you tried to cross Every gun you ever held went off Ohhh and I'm... Just waiting until the firing stopped Ohhh and I'm... Just waiting 'til the shine wears off (2:33) Em C D Bm e|-12-12-12-10-12-12-12-15-14-14-14-17-10-10-10-14-| B|-------------------------------------------------| x4 G|-9--9--9--7--9--9--9--12-11-11-11-14-7--7--7--11-| (2:56) Ohhh and I... Just waiting 'til the shine wears off Ohhh and I.. Just waiting 'til the shine wears off (3:20) Em7 C G D Em7
9. Yes, the verse chords are Am, C or C/G, Em, Am. You can play it in standard tuning or EADGBC, which I think sounds best (the C/G is a standard C with a G bass - to achieve this, you put the pinky finger on the E-string's 3rd fret. If you find this difficult, just play the standard C). I think that when Chris plays it, he emphasises (?) the first upward stroke, and the pattern is something like this: d---d--U-u-d--u-d-u Just keep on playing, and the strumming and timing will improve.
10. Very good playing, you seem to master the slide well. Nice tone too. The only thing I think could've been done better was the vibrato in the first Trouble riff - but it's not a big deal.
11. Yep, that seems to be it. I tend to hear "As far as I can't see" in the very beginning, but that probably wouldn't make sense, would it? And something is sung after "so long" (1:43-ish), but it's very vague.
12. All time i(t')s circuitry ?
13. Hello and welcome! You can get Violet Hill from Coldplay's official site: http://coldplay.com/song.html or from the link in this thread: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44190
14. A big part of the VH lyrics thread fits in here :D. I remember the first times I heard Amsterdam. When Chris sings "Stuck on the end, of this ball and chain", I thought he sang "Stuck on the edge, with a fistful of change".
15. My thoughts exactly :crown: HB to you too! And I think I gotta run for uni. class ...
16. I'm really struggling to hear the "m" if it's "poem(s)". Sounds like a "l" to me. guyy: My mother tongue is not English, so I'm not 100% sure if it makes sense. But it sounds very close to me! Gotta go to bed. Maybe the mystery is solved when I log back on tomorrow? :)
17. Hehe, this is fun. Seems like the puzzle is almost solved. I now think I hear "pulled" or "appalled" in the much discussed line "bury me ...".
18. I think the 'Priests' thing fits perfectly - it spices up the verse a little. I think Coldplay has done the same before (can't come up with examples right now ...).
19. Nice initiative! I hear the piano verse as C#m | A (plus some alternative A) If Jonny plays in standard tuning, I guess the solo goes like this: e|----------------------------| B|----------------------------| G|-8b9b8-6-8b9---------6------| D|-------------6-8b9-6---6----| A|-------------------------9--| E|----------------------------|
20. jc90 - seems close to perfect except the last line here: bury me in honor when i'm dead and hit the ground a love back home unfolds <------- the words I posed will unfold ? (based on lumberjack2's post)
21. when the banks became ????? <--- cathedrals I'll edit this post if I find out more
22. Check out the Chet Atkins models at www.gretschguitars.com. It seems to be the G6122-1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman or Country Classic: http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/shop_image/product/4c9cb0fb0c596eff37fdd87323e4b1ee.jpg
23. You're welcome! I've got the cheapest(?) Gibson (a Les Paul Special Faded) and a Roland Cube 30. I have the Live 2003 Tab book, but I know it's not 100% correct. I don't think I can contribute with much useful (I can't even read notes), and besides I have lots of work to do (studies). But I'd gladly check out your work (if you've written tablatures), and perhaps come with some suggestions. You're right - fixed it now :)
24. You can see how Jonny does it on the pic posted earlier, but I find it easier to use the index finger to cover 8th (and later 6th) fret on the 1st to 5th string (just like I would play a barre chord). The challenge is to use the middle, ring and pinky finger to hit the correct strings and frets. Practice, practice, practice :).
25. Since I happened to have my guitar connected to the computer, I recorded the riff. Check out the attachment.
