Ask the Oracle on Coldplay.com (Now in session!)
January 16, 2009 - submitted by NED, United States of America Q. I want to know how to get songs that are only on exclusive singles... I cant find any way to get ahold of songs like "a spell a rebel yell" since that came only w/ a magazine subscription PLEASE ANSWER! ned The Oracle replies: Sadly the only way you could get that song was on the Violet Hill single that was given away with the NME paper (but it wasn't subscription only). It was a vinyl record too so some people got it but still haven't heard it! Anyway, you can hear it [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WagapQ9Sq7k]here[/ame]. January 16, 2009 - submitted by Alexia, United States of America Q. Hello Oracle! I was just listening to Yellow by Coldplay and was wondering where they got the idea for that awsome song? Thanx:) The Oracle replies: It was actually inspired by a meteor shower that took place during the recording of the album Parachutes. They were at Rockfield Studios (Wales). Take a look at the guest book... edit: January 16, 2009 - submitted by Omar, United States of America Q. Hello all-knowing Oracle, I have a little riddle for you, well its a bit long, but please read on... "Three guys go to a hotel that charges $30 a night. In order to divide the price evenly, they each pay $10. After they have paid and left the office, the employee realizes that he overcharged them by $5, so he was only supposed to charge them $25. He is told to return the money to them, but in order to make the division simpler, he keeps $2 and returns $1 to each of the guys." So it is as if each paid $9... right? ok so then the $9 that each paid x 3 = $27 + the $2 that he kept = $29 WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OTHER DOLLAR? I'm sure with you being the Oracle and all, you will be able to solve this in a jiffy! The Oracle replies: Nothing! If the men paid $27 and then got a dollar back each, that's $3 so the total of $30 is accounted for. The mistake people make is thinking the $2 the employee keeps is relevant to the sum. A great riddle nonetheless.

Coldplay Make $81.6 million in 2008
Actually, figure in Phil who also gets an equal cut and it's down to a tiny 16 million per. Then you consider that 40% of the world's population lives on less than $2 a day(thank you Oxfam for the factoid)...so any way you slice 80 million, I'd say the boys are doing just fine:D

? about Today show performance [2008]
Yeah, that was about the way of it. They each came out and went directly to their respective spots - talking to their roadies and the NBC people, getting their earpieces sorted. I've never seen them soundcheck before so I have no idea if this was standard protocol. However to give the other guys the benefit of the doubt, I can imagine they might have been overwhelmed seeing as how it was about 6:15 in the morning and the area around Rockefeller Plaza was packed full of people. I never got the feeling they were intentionally ignoring the fans - more like they were at work and trying to make sure the performance would go as smoothly as possible. :)

Ask the Oracle on Coldplay.com (Now in session!)
January 14, 2009 - submitted by Daniel, Sweden Q. When Politik ends on the Viva la Vida tour, Chris plays a nice classic piece on the piano, and I wonder, is it "Le Moulin" by Yann Tiersen? couse parts of it sounds like that song. Thanks The Oracle replies: I actually answered this on the 7th Jan so as that was only last week it should be easy to find. I am a fan of Mr Tiersen and can be frequently found whistling his music from Amelie. Yann's music is typically French and so I can understand why you'd think it was a piece by him but as you will see when you look, it's not. January 14, 2009 - submitted by Kunal, Canada Q. I was watching a Much Music TV interview with Jonny & Chris a couple of days ago, & they said that they would perform at weddings for 4 Pounds an hour. I'm celebrating my 30th Birthday & my wife & my 3 year Anniversary on May 30th, 2009 & was wondering if they would perform for us? Who do I need to get in touch with, in order to make this happen? The Oracle replies: I'm afraid they were jesting; they're not available for hire. If they were at 4 and hour, they'd be the bargain of the century! January 14, 2009 - submitted by Sarah, United Kingdom Q. Dearest Oracle, when I went to see Coldplay at manchester on the 12th Dec, during Yellow I actually loved the balloons! but the security didnt seem keen on people trying to keep them, why was this? The Oracle replies: Firstly they were very large and as Yellow wasn't the last song it was a long time for people to cling on to the balloons rather than spread the love around. Also people were actually battling over them. Two women on the front row were practically fighting during the encore when trying to retrieve their balloons from security personnel, quite ugly I have to say! It would have been amusing to see people clutching balloons and then realizing they didn't fit into their car or mode of transport! January 14, 2009 - submitted by Rafael, United Kingdom Q. Hi Oracle I found 2 videos on youtube with Chris and Jonny with Noel Gallagher perfoming Live Forever and Yellow, when and where was that? The Oracle replies: The event was called Fairplay and took place at the Astoria in London on October 29, 2002. It was a Make Trade Fair awareness gig organized by, amongst others, Emily Eavis who along wither her father Michael runs Glastonbury Festival. Chris & Jonny followed Noel Gallagher's set to which Chris said, "It's like being allowed on stage after the sixth formers have gone out for a fag". They then performed an acoustic set of In My Place, Don't Panic (with Simon Pegg playing the harmonica part) and The Scientist. Chris then introduced Ms Dynamite and they launched in to It Takes More with Chris and Jonny on guitar. They followed this with Ms Dynamite and Chris singing Bob Marley's Three Little Birds with Jonny on guitar and then straight into Dy-Na-Mi-Tee with Chris singing backing vocals. Noel returned and played guitar on Yellow. They continued with a cover of The Smiths song Stop Me if you Think You've Heard This One Before followed by Live Forever. Chris took to his piano for a solo performance of Many Rivers to Cross, which he previously sang in Trafalgar Square when the Make Trade Fair campaign was launched. The finale was Whatever morphed into The Beatles Octopuss Garden.
