In American football there are nonreviewable penalties that prevent what you're afraid of. Review for goal-line and offsides alone would be the greatest advancement in the history of soccer. We're not talking about the referee spending five minutes in a booth looking at a camera. Its as simple as this: Take the Argentina goal today, after the play the head ref asks a ref in the tower whether Tevez was offsides. Ten seconds later, the ref in the tower says 'yes, he was offsides'. The head ref calls the goal off, and awards a free kick. Is that not what you and everyone watching wished could've happened? Wouldn't you wish the ref could've stopped play for a few seconds to verify that Lampard's shot had , in fact, crossed the line? Today thousands of americans who rarely watch soccer, rolled their eyes and couldn't take the sport seriously because of how painfully primitive it seems. Who could possibly take a sport seriously in which refs are allowed to disallow obvious goals ALL the time?

But seriously, Klose is a goal scoring machine. Not so much this cup, but he averages 1 goal every two games. He was the second leading goal scorer is 2002, and the leading goal scorer in 2006.

Look, we have American football that has instantly replay that sometimes adds a lot of time to a game. SOCCER IS NOT THE SAME THING. 99 % of the time it's immediately obvious whether someone is offside, or whether the ball did in fact cross the goal line. When they slow down a replay of where a player is before a pass, you know instantly whether or not he is offside. It's not nearly the game of inches that american football or rugby is. It's extremely rare to have uncertainty about whether or not the ball crosses the line in soccer, while american football, because of first downs, has this problem very frequently. Every wrongly allowed or disallowed goal this tournament was immediately obvious after instant replay. Look at tennis, if anything, replay has sped up the game because it's so efficient.

Germany was outplaying England, but it's very plausible that the urgent need to equalize pushed up the English defenders and contributed to Germany's ability to counter-attack the way they did, twice. In any case, even one mistake is reason enough to institute some kind of replay or the ability for a tower referee to overrule.

pretty sure that was the idea behind briggs *favorite 4th track* thread. It's a popular template in albums to start with an intro track, and then alternate the more exciting tracks with softer tracks. The big singles being placed just short of halfway through the album. I find the more mainstream albums start off with the 'hit single' and then steadily decline in quality.
