  1. If it helps, here's the effects Jonny used to play live during the Twisted Logic Tour. It won't be exactly what was used in the studio, but it will give you a good idea of where to start, since most of the effects were/are on his parts: Pedals: Boss TU2 tuner Pro Co RAT Vintage Rat distortion Boss TR2 tremolo Boss RV3 reverb Boss DD5 delay MXR Micro Amp Line 6 DL4 delay (x2) Colorsound Tonebender fuzz Rack: TC Electronic 2290 Delay Lexicon MPX G2 Korg DTR1 In addition, Guy used an old Korg Synth from the 70's for the intro to Square One, but I don't know the specific model. Hope this helps:D
  2. Wel...The U.K. media seems to get a new qoute from Peggy Gallagher every other month, so if anything it's surprising that it took the music media this long to let parent based journalism trickle down to Coldplay...
  3. While I agree that it's an invasion of privacy to publish the address, I do feel it's worth noting that thanks to the NY Post, Obsever and other various gossip rags it's fairly common knowledge where a ton of "celebrities" live in NYC. Also, in most (if not all) U.S. jurisdictions, property deeds are a matter of public record. If someone really wants to know someone's address, all they have to do is go to the appropriate records office and search.:dozey: Anyway, I'm sure a high end building like that has security, odds are JB isn't even the only celebrity in the building, as that general area is home to quite a few famous people.
  4. "Its likely hes using a lot of his rack gear for that one. He probably loops some of it as well." I know the string bits are looped, so some of the guitar lines could be as well I guess. It really does sound like slide in some bits though. Guess I need to refine my ear...;)
  5. I was sure Yes was played with a Slide part as JB's lead line, but I recently saw a video where he clearly played the part without slide. How do you make the long "swooshy" runs without use of slide?
  6. Ok after reading the arctual article that started this whole mess, I've got this to say: Chris NEVER actually said he (or his band) would retire soon. He said bands, as in the general sense as in he was making a general point about bands who totter on well into old age, just to scrape up the last bit of cash, or adoration or whatever. He probably was just pulling a number out of the air to illustrate said point a picked one a little too close to his actual age. (as he has done many times before.) As regards my earlier comments about money, perhaps I should havwe been more clear. I never meant to imply that the band weren't extremely wealthy, or that they were motivated by money (In fact, I believe I explicitly stated the opposite.) However, they all have clearly adopted a lifestyle that requires a great deal of money to support. Therefore, even if the "rich list" numbers regarding their wealth are accurate (which is quite often not the case), it seems unlikely they'd have enough yet to continue said lifestyle for the remainder of they're lives. (as opposed to a band like u2 where each member is rumered to be worth at least $200 million U.S., or the three original Rolling Stones whose personal wealth runs into the billions.) Never meant to imply anything more than that...
  7. Even if they did "retire" (which now looks to have been all but debunked thanks to that Oracle posting). That doesn't really mean anything in and of itself. There are tons of bands who retired/broke up etc. only to reform at some point in the future. (happened just recently with one of my favorites from the 90's, Spacehog). Conversely, ther are any bands that while still technically together, haven released new material in years, making them retired in all but name... Anyway, if they do break up Will has the inside track to being the Phil Collins of this generation(except without the sucking...:laugh3:)
  8. I don't think he is "joking" per se, but I don't think the band's retirement is emminant(sp) either. Chris is probably serious in regards to his feelings about getting a bit older etc. It's fun to be in a band and on the road all the time when you're young, but Chris (and all the boys really) are older now, they have families and wives and just other assorted stuff in their lives they probably want to do more than they want to play music. (though frm all indications they all still genuinely enjoy that as well). Lots of rock stars have made similar comments when they were around the age Chris is now (again, I believe quite truthfully), but are still out there performing. Not least of all I imagine for the lack of something to do with their lives and for the continued lure of the money. Although, I don't believe the members of Coldplay value money to the excessive level that many of their famous peers do, in all likelyhood, it's nice to earn as much as they have. Given that they haven't made Rolling Stones or U2 level money, I doubt they'd be able to actually fully retire and support themselves for the rest of their lives (certainly not in the style to which they've grown accustomed.) Money is a huge lure (and like most things the more you have the more you want.) While it would suck for they boys to stay together just to squeeze the last drop of out revenue out of the fans (-COUGH-Metallica-COUGH:rolleyes:), it's probably enough of a lure to keep them coming back. (At least for a while) Ok, if you stayed with me through the money paragraph, I'd like to make one final point. Even if they did split, that in no way diminishes the music they've already made and put into the world. Consider these bands who spent less time together (or at least as commercially known bands)- than Coldplay has been together, yet are still beloved by people and whose influence is still felt today: -The Beatles -The Smiths -Ride -The Sugarcubes -The Sex Pistols -Nirvana Each of those bands is considered to have made an enormous contribution to they're genre of music. So... even if Coldplay were to break up (and I'm by no means convinced they will anytime soon), they would hardly be in bad company. Personally, I'd much prefer that option than having them end up like Oasis are today...
  9. Can you actually play it without damaging/destroying the butterflys though? Looks nice though...:D
  10. OK, so my new job is going pretty well now, and I've finally got enough money coming in to finally buy a top of the line guitar. I'm currently leaning towards a Gretsch Tennesee Rose. I really like it's tone, but, I'm not sure if it's good for the music I will be playing. If I'm in a U2/Coldplay/Radiohead/etc. cover band, how will this guitar work for this type of music? I've heard that Jonny Greenwood has used one, but I've never seen him use it on any of the 4 occasions(sp?), I've seen Radiohead live. I'm a bit worried that although I love the sound of the guitar now, it will suck for the kind of gigging I intend to do with it... Thoughts? Opinions?
  11. I have limited experience with the specifics of the Korg. (the one I have heard belonged to a friend of mine and I never really got into the specifics of it's technical workings.) I do know that it seemed to run at least 3-4 distinct effects and still seem to sound good, other than that, I really couldn't say.
  12. It really comes down to which of them sounds best to you, and which one you find the easiest to use. Of the three, the Digitech is the only one I have no personal expeience with, and personally, I'd prefer the Korg, but that's just my opinion, as they're both good units (neither is top of the line, but IMHO both are pretty good) I'd say the Korg is not only better, but is also a better value for the money.
  13. "i'm just saying that they really need a fanclub" Why exactly? To me, in a way it seems not having an "official" fanclub fits better with Coldplay's philsophy of dealing with their fans. Most (if not all) "official" fanclubs require a membership fee to join. Fair enough, I guess, but in most cases what you get for the money is the opportunity to spend more money (and maybe a membership card, or perhaps the ever popular "tabloid sized quarterly newsletter")... Anyway, what I'm getting at is that it always seemed a bit crass to me to make people pay to be "fans" of your band. After all, fans pay you a great deal of money as it is, why squeeze them for more, just to prove they are more of a fan than other "non-official" fans (Just MHO...) It seems to me that the way Coldplay does it is more reasonable. Sure, they collected fans information with the VH download (among other times), but I really think with them it was about thanking fans for support as opposed to squeezing fans for every possible drop of revenue...
  14. "it's the credit crunch that meant Oasis had to cancel their US gigs...funny that" Are you sure that's not due to Noel needing more time to recover from that pushing thing in Toronto? From what I hear, he was still visably hurt at the recent U.K. dates. (Don't follow Oasis closely though, so I have no idea...)
  15. I don't think he currently uses it live for anything but CSC, but he's used them fairly extensively in the past. Usually though in the past, he played an all black model. Thom Yorke also uses one a lot, but I know for sure his is vintage.
  16. From the band's first trip to the U.S. in December of 2000: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIkrTkh5noQ&feature=related]YouTube - Coldplay performs "Shiver" on Morning Becomes Eclectic[/ame] Chris and Jonny are both playing Takamine Guitars, but neither has a cutaway.
  17. "but it's the credit crunch that meant Oasis had to cancel their US gigs...funny that " Am I missing something here? I'm not up on Oasis, but I was under the impression they were selling out bigger venues here in the States than they had for years. My friend just bought tickets to see them at the Allstate Arena, Which is a 15,000+ capacity venue...
  18. Chris hasn't used Martin Guitars since the end of the ARROBTTH tour...;) Though Guy did play a Martin for don't panic during Twisted Logic shows.
  19. What's Chris' Guitar in this clip: (it looks like jonny is playing the same type) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JMdvsUMPoQ&feature=related]YouTube - COLDPLAY!! - till the kingdom come -[/ame] As far as I knew they both play gibson J-200s, but these are clearly not Gibson Guitars. (they look a bit like Takamine but the headstock is the wrong shape.) Anyone know...
  20. "Ahh.. i was sure they were vintage" Maybe they are now. I do know that at least as recently as the Twisted Logic Tour he was playing reissues though. However, the ones he used to use were black, so this one could be new (old rather).
  21. Actually, both of Chris' Tele Deluxe's are the reissue ones, not vitage 70's models. Basically, the main difference is that the pickups are now more sonically(sp?) similar to gibson humbuckers as opposed to the tone of the original fender wide range pickups. He's been using these guitars since at least as far back as the AROBTTH tour.
  22. Is it miced externally somehow or does it have it's own pickup. I've never heard of a Dobro with an electric pickup, so I'm a bit curious (though I have limited experience with that type of guitar...)
  23. I think at least some of the confusion people seem to be having with this one stems from the fact that Jon using an electric guitar for the part he normally plays acoustic, puts the opening guitar bits higher in the mix than usual.
  24. It appears to be refinished as I've only ever seen Jazzmasters in "shell pink" Finish, which is quite different from Jon's. Is there some type of reissue I don't know about or is it a custom model? Also, does anyone have clear pics of it (I've tried looking through the multimedia, but can't seem to find any of it.)
  25. "theres something about left handed players that just make them shining lights" Plus, youn weren't even counting the players who are left handed, yet play the guitar in the orthodox fashion. A great many famous and/or awesome players fall into this catagory (Noel Gallager and Joe Perry among others...)
