Is it a coincidence that new single is relased on friday friday?
we we we so excited I don't think it's a coincidence. I'm calling it's going to be a Friday rip-off much like how VLV ripped off a Satriani track

I'm being negative about the new lyrics and pictures because they look ridiculous. I just get the impression that the band wants to continue to be the "biggest band in the world" even if that means to look ridiculous in doing so. They were an extremely popular band with AROBTTH, but didn't need to put up any front and just let the music speak. I used to be such a huge fan of this band, but I honestly don't know what they are doing anymore which is disappointing. I read that the band was going to be more stripped down and go back to their roots, and though I am not one to judge because I haven't heard the song, but from what they've shown so far I'm not too optimistic. You can't really blame me or anyone else for being disappointed in how this band has changed for the worst IMO.

New Coldplay eh?
You hit the nail on the head Lauren I completely agree. I mean we all know that Chris has the biggest pull with the band. But to be honest I kind of see the other members going along. I mean Jonny is Chris's bitch  and Will to me just seems like the kind of guy to me at least that adds to some ideas and goes along with it. The only member I don't see as being into it is Guy. To me since he's so quiet I can just imagine him thinking "what the hell am I still doing in this band?"

clearly the members of the band are not to bright. And the reason being that not only do they not show the song yet but they post the lyrics which are terrible. I mean who really does that? I could understand a lyrical genius like Dylan or Lennon or Young, but seriously

I've never seen a band like these guys mature in an opposite fashion. Soon enough they'll be doing a kids bop next album.

Torture
Just heard about this story on CNN... totally disgusting http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/31/world/middleeast/31syria.html This is disgusting. If I had any doubts in my mind about being for torture well that has gone out the window. It's disgusting how he was brutalized and tortured. ESPECIALLY being a kid. Torture is definitely not justified.

What annoyed you today?
How I was told by my boss to drop off an order I was working on all day at the original store I work at, and when I got there he wasn't there. So I called and he said "oops... I left". So I had to drive back and leave the order at the other store. At least he could've called me.

Actually I thought that whole comma line was one of the lines I thought was the dumbest :|

Which song has deeper/meaningful/genius/mindblowing/jawdropping lyrics?
I really want to get to interview Chris Martin one day and ask him what he thinks is their best song lyrically

I completely agree with what you posted Lore I know what you're saying and it shouldn't be an issue, but I just find their image to be pretencious and trying too hard just like their last album. Their first albums were relatively simple, but amazing. The last one had too much going on

Which song has deeper/meaningful/genius/mindblowing/jawdropping lyrics?
 someone should do a cover of that.

It looks as though those priests have gotten to Chris Martin

I really don't see how you can make a statement like that. Even my most favorite bands of all time there are songs I don't like. In other words if they released a song of them burping you wouldn't dislike it. I don't think it's bad that people are criticizing. Afterall it's just opinions. Also I highly doubt that the band would take to heart what people on this forum say considering how big of a fanbase they have outside of here.

 ...this is a tough choice...

Also I think the title of the song is pretty stupid too. What does that even mean anyway

That is true, but if that's the case then show the song first. It's a really bad first impression to show the lyrics to a song when the lyrics are poorly put together. Yes it's true and I agree. I just feel that it should be more about the music rather than the image and trying to make a statement.

The lyrics are horrendous. Their getup makes them look ridiculous. The artwork is meh... the typography looks stupid. so overall... they've lowered my expectations even further (and I haven't even heard the song yet!)

That is true and I agree. I'm not criticizing the song, just the lyrics now... criticizing the song will be later  ...I joke I don't think so. I think they're just trying to make a statement like that. From a personal standpoint would you just randomly change your getup? Perhaps it's something that goes with each album, but I personally can't take them serious... especially the VLV era.

I see what you're saying but I still disagree  I think of course rhyming isn't a crime. I just feel that to me there is a tendancy from them to have sloppy and what appears to be quickly written lyrics at times. I just think they don't really spend time on lyrics. Not as if they need to be really deep, but at least something a little more complex. For the costumes I think they are trying to be different or stand out. I mean if you were in a band, you'd just wear your regular clothes. I think if you changed it up it be to send out a message. It's like The Beatles... they changed things up with Sgt Pepper. Yes it looked weird, but for the time it worked with the whole Psychedelic era and also showed a new era of the band where it was only studio time and no live performances

I don't see how they aren't a regular every-day band, I mean it's just a band. I just feel that strange getups is a bit pretencious. Now people can bring up Lady Gaga, but I think what is different is that she is more about the stage performance and persona and then the music. Coldplay at least initially for me was soley about making great music, but now it's changed.

I have been disappointing. Listening back to X&Y it's very mediocre, not much that stands out anymore. Also X&Y there's bits I really like (beginning bits of 42 & Death, and also some songs like Life in Technicolor & Reign of Love). For an audience I think it's more of a teenage/tween age gap that they are trying to reach being that that is an age where people change their looks and wear ridiculous clothings at that age. So I think it's going for that. I also feel that the lyrics are aimed towards a younger audience being so simple and also talking about dancing

I disagree. The lyrics themselves on their own are very sloppy. And his rhyming is extremely predictable. It's like I just imagine like the line that ends in "knees" he's thinking... hmm... what can I rhyme with that... oh I know... trapeeze. I just feel the excessive rhyming becomes too predictable. I mean even when I first heard Swallowed in the Sea I could figure out what word he was going to say before he even said it. And the whole dressing up thing is ridiculous because it feels like they're trying to hard IMO to be something different. At least their first 2 albums they just acted normal. What's the whole Ruby thing? ...goodbye Ruby Tuesday
