  1. rock n roll class!!??!! and since when did Jack Black become a professor?
  2. ok well the live album is available for free download here http://www.wearephoenix.com/observer it has live versions of 8 of the 9 tracks from WAP (all except Countdown). it was recorded live at the hordern pavilion on march 2. they've entitled it Live in Sydney. this is the 3rd time ive been to a show that has been professionally recorded. this, pearl jam (every show is recorded) and big day out sydney (tv broadcast)
  3. Great news for all the people who went to see Phoenix in Sydney 3 weeks away.......that's me! They have made a live album for the show! More details when I get out of this class
  4. Jan 09 feels like such a long time ago, to think that sweet disposition was no.101 in the 2008 hottest 100 and then went on to become as big of an international hit as walking on a dream by empire of the sun.
  5. Hey Alex how fucking awesome is all this exposure and popularity temper trap are enjoying in the states. I was over happy with them making it in the UK, never thought they would make it big in the US so soon. Hope John butler, eddy current and the middle east can reach similar levels this year.
  6. yeah i always loved Single Ladies, glad to know im not alone haha i agree its not all about the genres. its good music v bad music. but more often than not mainstream pop music is automatically labeled as crap while the more indie and underground someone is the cooler they are. its just the way things are.
  7. ^^ yeah i totally agree. i refuse to believe that alternative music fans from the 60s and 70s loved the pop music of their time more than the alt music fans of today enjoy current pop music. and by "pop" i mean the songs and sounds that dominate the singles charts (album charts tend to give indication of good music) at any given time. as opposed to a specific type or genre of music. there alot of bands who are widely considered as "pop" but have never seen the charts.
  8. ^^ re: post above. i didnt fix the problem. have to try again on sunday has anyone seen the aria album charts lately. i paid a visit to the site today and i was very very impressed by the top 20. it has angus n julia stone at the top, gorillaz at 3, mumford n sons behind them, hendrix at 8, florence n the machine at 13, muse at 18 still and then broken bells at 20!
  9. i guess i should make some contribution to this discussion as it has been on my mind all morning. i was thinking if i got the chance to DJ a party or a club what music out of my music library would i play. after spending half n hour scrolling up and down the lists, i found next to nothing aside from the odd daft punk classic. then i went over to the top 40 charts. and found lady gaga, kesha, kid cudi, rihanna, black eyed peas. music i find painful to listen to but in the right atmoshpere ie a party or club this stuff sounds much much better than your critically acclaimed alternative masterpieces. it gets people dancing and makes them feel good even if it is incredibly superficial and stupid. and i must admit ive been loving the kid cudi/ david guetta song, no idea what its called but it sounds pretty awesome.
  10. what is going on here!! mature conversations!! clear defined arguments, no insults, no mindless bullshit!! WoM HAS SOLD OUT!!!
  11. unbelievable 3 pages into a "hate" thread and not a single mention of radiohead (until now of course) is everyone ok?
  12. another up n coming band. this one from england
  13. thanks for this news. this means they are a certainty at Splendour this year which explains (sort of) why they arent doing brisbane because splendour this year has been moved up closer to Brisbane and away from byron bay. would love to see these boys again they were excellent at BDO.
  14. Here is a selection of the best aussie bands at the event Cassette Kids Children Collide Dappled Cities Paul Dempsey John Steel Singers The Middle East Washington
  15. well i just recorded the replay of the Lisa Mitchell live at the wireless. its a solid 45min set from the painfully cute songstress. the only downsides to the recording are the short dropouts and this annoying static sound that is always theres. now i think that might have something to do with me only having the trial version of the recording program. i will try and fix the problem by tomorrows grizzly bear broadcast.
  16. now like i mentioned in an earlier post, Triple J have an epic line up of live at the wireless's coming up over the next few weeks including 3 of the best acts to come out of the UK in the last few years. but before that amazing run of shows begin, this coming monday see's Grizzly Bear taking to the live at the wireless stage with their performance at the Sydney Festival in the very intimate City Recital Hall in Sydney. the show received mixed reviews in january so i will be very interested to hear how it sounds on the radio.
  17. alright here is the draw Lyon v Bordeux Bayern v Man Utd Arsenal v Barca Inter v CSKA The team mentioned first match will play at home first. The make up of the draw is as above, so the winner of the French game will play the winner of the man utd match. Same goes for the bottom half
  18. not that i know of. but like you said, 3 festivals appearances confirmed in late june early july. those shows will be very telling but im hoping for some solid updates before them. im also predicting a possible appearance at australia's splendour in the grass in early august.

^^ you're seemingly in the minority. i still rate it as the most front loaded album in my collection.
  20. ^^ haha! It beats windows vista anyday
  21. Personally I still think demon days is a stronger album but then again I've only given plastic beach one listen so far. Is anyone else looking forward to the upcoming Foals album? for those of you impressed by two door cinema club try out Foals you will hopefully be very impressed as they have much more sophisticated sound.
  22. I've only heard a few of the tracks that have been previewed on my local alt music station. I will buy the record tomorrow and make up my mind properly. Listening back to Alas I still get some sense of "young love" and your typical teenage themes. But yeh vocally she is mature far beyond her years.
  23. She's taken a much darker theme this time so she's kinda trying to sound alot more mature. Which is a bit of a risky path but at her age she can afford to take a few risks. For me personally the most appealing thing about Laura is the potential she has to become a brilliant and prolific artist over the next 10-15 yrs.
