Beneath the Boardwalk by the Arctic Monkeys. the boys were only about 17 or 18 when they wrote this mini album. here are some of the tracks on it A Certain Romance Fake Tales of San Francisco Mardy Bum Riot Van Scummy aka When The Sun Goes Down Dancin Shoes its incredible to think at such a young age they had already written some of the most defining songs of the era.

well this is the only game of gridiron i watch every year and kinda enjoy it, more so for the spectacular rather than the game itself. being a more british/european type of sports fan i do find it a little bizarre that it takes 3hrs to play a 60min game. oh yeah go Saints........i think...........

yeah. you should really Kingsmill's article in the jmag. he talks about how 2009 was a year of alot of really good songs (reflected in the quality of the hottest "200") but lacking in great albums. also. staying on the triple j theme. they have a great Live at the Wireless on monday night. Its Animal Collective's gig at the Enmore from last December. well worth a listen

wow this place is turning into WoM so i thought i would contribute. simple question. to the coldplay fans here. would you be willing to give up the spectacular coldplay put on during the VLV tour in exchange for more interesting setlists? because the thing is coldplay put on a "show" while bands like radiohead and pearl jam put on "gigs". each of the awesome effects and fancy things during the VLV show is connected to a song and really only makes sense if its used for that particular song. on the other hand even though radioheads stage looks incredible its a pretty generic set up. its bright during the up beat songs and toned down during the softer songs. which allows the band to change setlists every night. you also have to remember coldplay has a more 'mainstream' following so a large majority of people at their shows want to hear the big hits.

radiohead have won several grammy's. from memory they've won the grammy for best alternative album 4 times. and been nominated for album of the year 3 times.

Empire of the Sun album came out in 2008. Lisa Mitchell, Dappled Cities and Temper Trap had the only great aussie releases of the year. 2007 provided a good 10 awesome aussie albums and 08 wasnt far behind. the fact that triple j waited until july to announce thier first J Award noms is very telling.

does anybody have any theories as to why aus music had such a shitty year?

what i dont understand is that the panel who nominate the artists are meant to be some of the best musical minds in the US, they are most respected and most significant names in the industry. if those people believe that the best music of the year was written by the likes of Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas and Taylor Swift, what hope does our art have? the influence of the major labels on the awards is just as disturbing but thats just the way the world works.

i was thinking john butler trio as aus headliners? even though the Chair are my fave aus band, i really dont like their live performances of late, Johns has become a stereotypical rockstar. he was much better in the late 90s. ps. ive been looking for a poster of the 3-1 demolition to put in my siggy. cant find one.

BDO 2010 ended this week in Perth. this thread has become the biggest in the Worldwide Fest section of WoM. its come a long way since the line up was first announced then the whole ticketing fiasco, second sydney show, gradual announcement of all the sideshows, constant anticipation of a muse sideshow that never came to fruition and then the BDO finally came!! and from reading all your awesome reviews, we had an awesome time hey its only another 7 months before the 2011 line up is announced!! wooo
