bands that should reform. i think i'll stick to aussie bands. would love to see wolfmother get back together (even though they only broke up 3 months ago) midnight oil i think would still be great as would hunters and collectors. but if you honestly think music needs to be saved you need to get your ears checked. music now is just as if not more diverse and spectacular than it was in the past. and you have to understand that there is really no such thing as a totally original artist or band they all get inspiration from old artists even the so-called pioneers of the 60s and 70s.

jack white hate? hope your not referring to my posting because i own every white stripes and raconteurs album plus dvd and the wallpaper to my mobile phone is a cartoon pic of jack and meg. so theres no hate coming from me. i was just surprised that throughout the year when the raconteurs were touring the world (otherwise known as europe and north america) there was no interest at all in jack or any of his bands. then he stops working (for the first time in like 5yrs) and theres all this interest him. im just a little perplexed thats all. is it the alicia keys song?

The killers have just announced that their going to be headlining the australian version of the V festival. it will be going around the eastern states of australia in late march 2009. alongside them will be snow patrol and kaiser chiefs. no sideshows announced yet but will certainly occur this will be the bands 3rd visit to australia in as many years. they were the second headliners to our big out festival last january then returned for their own tour in november. alot of bands talk about how much they love touring down here but then end up coming maybe once every 4yrs. but with the killers the love seems genuine having done 5 shows in sydney last year (a very very big deal) and coming here a matter of weeks after 'somebody told me' broke through. most importantly the love is mutual!!

jack white has made 8 albums in 9 years and will make it 9 in 10 years when releases the white stripes 7th studio album. there are many artists out there who have done similar things but the different with jack is that he has also headlined basically every major music festival in the world and received unbelievable critical acclaim.

whats with the sudden influx of jack white related threads being popular. theres this one thats suddenly been updated plus the raconteurs one and theres the one about the Bond song. surprising cos the man is flat on his back at the moment recovering from a slipped disc.

Consolers of the Lonely is my fave album of year and has held that position since it came out. its unbelievable to think that it is jack whites 4th album in as many years. and all of them have been great. most artists struggle to make one decent album every decade. this legend of a man is churning them out every year!!

this has not been confirmed yet but some highly respected newspapers have begun to comment on the tour here is an article which appeared in the melbourne Age newspaper 30minutes ago. TWO of the world's hottest rock bands, Coldplay and Kings of Leon, will play in Melbourne in March with sharply different ticket prices. Brit band Coldplay and American rockers Kings of Leon will strut their stuff at Rod Laver Arena. Kings of Leon have refused costly tiered pricing, instead setting all tickets at a credit-crunch-friendly $92. Coldplay have a March 2 show on hold, with final confirmation due shortly. Coldplay's ever-increasing asking price saw a string of local promoters pass on the tour, figuring it too much of a financial risk. The cost will be passed on to fans who will pay about $145 for a ticket. The sudden mainstream popularity of the band created a huge bidding war among local promoters. Three or four Coldplay shows have been earmarked in each state to make a profit from the tour. "It will be interesting to see how it goes," said a tour insider. "That number of shows is ambitious in the current climate." Coldplay had three shows at Rod Laver Arena on their last Australian tour in 2006.

re: south american those dates had only been announced by local mexican newspapers and there had been no official cofirmation from the band until now. so in actual fact its not entirely "old news"

^^ i was thinking the exact same thing a few days before this thread was put up. when i first got into music about 6yrs ago i would use rolling stone to keep upto date. but now nothing is more resourceful than NME. nonetheless the journalism in RS is of the highest quality.

most of my favourites have already been mentioned. but my all time fave would hav to be Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam fame. best works i think everyone should hav a look at include Black, Porch, Better Man, Immortality, Off He Goes, Life Wasted and Corduroy. also its worth checking out stuff of his solo album for the soundtrack of Into The Wild

im really starting to get into these guys. listening to () and Hvarf/Heinma. great records

where on earth are you people getting this information about leaks?? it really annoys me how much people dwell on the issue off leaks on this forum. just look forward to the official release date and if something pops up before then consider yourselves lucky. getting so excited about leaks will only lead u guys into downloading fakes that hav viruses on them.

^^ we're not trying to answer any questions here. we're simply discussing the topic, throwing names around, saying who we like and who we dont like ie the purpose of a forum. and on the topic of bands from the 60s 70s and so on i think we can draw alot from dvd's and other footage of those classic bands but of course nothing beats the real thing.

so when we meen live act we're including their stage set ups and everything? if we are i think thats very unfair. not every band has money like U2 or bon jovi does and therefore cant afford stages like theirs. i still feel that if u take away multi million dollar stages and 80 000 ecstatic fans, U2 are very average. best ever live aussie band : INXS and john butler trio and obviously AC/DC especially before the death of Bon Scott in 1979 (ie before Back in Black)

caught the EMA performance while i was channel surfing and wasnt surprised at the amazing quality of the standard of their showing. the killers didnt need all the fancy high tech stage set up but looks awesome nonetheless i cant remember the last time i watched any sort of awards ceremony. in my opinion they all are useless and stupid and made for egotiscal wannabe's. i wont name any cos i dont want to offend anyone

i dont want to turn this into a white stripes thread but if u want good jack white music check out white stripes second album De Stilj and the one after White Blood Cells. classic albums.

you cant judge albums by what the critics say, they like you are music fans and nothing more. some of my most favourite albums were very very poorly received but i dont give a damn. the killers have never been the most critically acclaimed band but that hasnt stopped me from thoroughly enjoying all their music.

^^ u cannot compare daft punk to chemical brothers. yeh they are both electronic but otherwise they make completely different brands of music. daft punk arent about beats and awesome mixes they're more about melodies and catchy tunes that dont require brilliant mixing ability. daft punk are great at mashing songs together, the chemical brothers are amazing at mixing. if they ever combined and did a show "i would like sooo totally die" haha

All Aussie Bands Birds of Tokyo - great straight out clean rock band great melodies and instrumentation Cog - one of australias best prog rock bands Dead Letter Circus - awesome pop punk band with an incredible vocalist and drummer. the guitarist is very much like The Edge Tame Impala - very difficult to categorise these guy but check em out. Children Collide - great rock band with a hint of soft metal about them Little Red - very good beatles like sound mixed in with some 60s r'n'b

Overrated : Kings of Leon and The Kooks and MGMT Underrated: Basically most aussie bands. Silverchair, Powderfinger, INXS (old one), John Butler Trio, The Panics, The Presets, and many many more

^^ i actually agree with you. i was watching some gigs by muse from 2001 and they used the same improv that they used at the end of stockholm syndrome on HAARP. but i chose Muse on the basis of their musical ability and chemistry on stage. i should add The Chemical Brothers. what most people dont realise is that the duo do all their mixing live on stage and if u listen to the complexity of some of their music it is unbelieveable.

ill do this decade by decade 60s- The Who. Doors 70s - Pink Floyd and Led Zep 80s- Van Halen and Queen 90s- RHCP and Placebo 00s - Muse and Jack White (raconteurs and white stripes) take away the fancy stages and lighting and U2 are nothing but an ordinary pop rock band. i know this wont go down well but.........i would put coldplay as one of the worst live bands in the world relative to their album sales. what do people use as a criterion to judge a good live band? for me its three things 1. Ability to create a certain atmosphere or aura whether its a dark shady one or a bright upbeat one - bands like sigur ros and radiohead do this very well as did nirvana 2. Pure raw energy and passion - bands like The Killers and kaiser chiefs and rage against the machine do this perfectly 3.Musical ability- for me improvisation is a big thing i cant stand bands who just rock up and play their album as it is, anyone can do that. i like to see bands show us how they make music - deep purple and hendrix were awesome at this as is pearl jam the bands i mentioned at the top of this post are the ones i consider to be great at all 3 things.
