Looking for Any Great Debut Album
exactly the two that i would choose. add to that list Fleet Foxes S/T and Santogold also S/T. a great australian album would be Frogstomp by Silverchair. made when the 3 members were only 15yrs old the album went Gold in america and the band toured with some of the biggest name in music at the time. 14years on the band are still making great music and topping the chart.

Will you watch the Grammys this year?
sorry to go off topic a bit for a moment. i was just thinking earlier about the nominations for best new artist. they are an absolute disgrace (even by grammys standards). how can they look over MGMT and Vampire Weekend both groups made brilliant debut albums. i guess fleet foxes didnt receive much prominance until later in the year but still anyone who calls themselves a music expert and cant deny the brilliance of their album. and what about Santogold!! with her incredible ability to combine every genre under the sun effortlessly. who do we get instead??!!?! duffy adele and jonas brothers (the other 2 i dont know so i'll leave them alone) adele i dont mind but she is nothing next to laura marling. i just cant believe that such a great year in music will be remembered by acts like duffy and jonas brothers.

a truly great live band can rock any venue whether its a small nightclub or 50 000 seat football stadium or the main stage at glastonbury or even your regular indoor arena. The Killers are one of those bands.

Will you watch the Grammys this year?
its mandatory for music fans to watch the grammys. but only music nerds watch the pre show webcast where they hand out 90 of the 100+ awards. :) i've watched the webcast the last 3yrs and its more intereting than you would think. only two of radioheads 5 nominations will be announced on the night. the other 3 will be handed out in the pre show webcast. it starts approx 4hrs before the actual broadcast

Radiohead
it would be very very hypocritical of them if they did perform on the night. for two reasons. 1. the whole carbon emissions thing that they have going. they refused to go to america to do Conan because Thom claims that a flight to new york is the equivalent to driving your car around for a year. 2. i'm not sure if any of you remember the 98 grammys where radiohead like this year were up for both alternative album and album of the year. they were offered to play on the night and the band wanted to play Exit Music (which as you all know ends with the lines " i hope you choke") the organisers said that it wouldn't be right for tv so the boys pulled out. the organisers then offered them the chance to present an award on the night to which the band responded "i thought you said we weren't right for tv" so they pulled out all together and if i'm not mistaken despite their countless nominations since have never returned to the grammys. and nor should they. personally i really hope radiohead do something really off the hook and controversial otherwise it will be a very very boring night.

Music Sales 2008
now the issue with not many young artists being developed. i could not disagree with you anymore. look at the shear number of avenues bands have nowadays of building a following, starting with MySpace, Facebook and YouTube. now i cant speak much for other countries but i know in Australia we have a very very good structure for bands to be discovered. there are radio stations that specialise in playing unsigned artists and each commercial radio stations allocates several hours a day to playing new artists. because of that we have a constant flow of great bands. but i do admit there is a problem. and the problem is that theres an infinite number of albums being recorded and very very very few are actually bought by a significant number of people. so yes at the end of the day not many artists enjoy international success. unless it is flogged to death by at least one form of media be it TV, internet or radio. going back to the influence of radio. i think the current eocnomic situation has had a profound impact on how radio stations behave. the radio stations that 2 or 3 years ago thrived on playing unknowns are now playing it safe by sticking to the chart toppers. and relegating the lesser known acts to late night slots. and i will never understand why the best artists arent the most successful.

Fleet Foxes
australian alternative radio station Triple J will be broadcasting Fleet Foxes' full performance at the recent Falls Festival in Victoria, Australia. it will be broadcast some time in the coming month. there are very few professional recordings of the band so i can't wait to hear this!

The Official "Glasvegas" thread!
yeah i'm on the same boat as most people here. personally i quite enjoyed the album the first few times i listened. but i cant see myself going back again and again. they need to add some colour and depth to their music.

Fever Ray's debut album is released on March 18th 2009

U2
Re: studio pic its safe to say its the best that money can buy. an incredible sight. but i still think the pics of radioheads studio during the making of In Rainbows is just slightly cooler because everything in their studio is soo messy and wild with that post-modern touch.

Lily Allen
in my opinion lily allen is one of the few genuine popstars left in the music industry. i'm sick of all the skanky american bullshit pop with talentless sticks dancing around in lingerie and calling it art. i highly recommend everyone check out Lily's latest video clip for The Fear, she looks stunning in it!!

Fever Ray's debut album is released on March 18th 2009
the full album is being featured all week on triple j radio in australia. i've heard about 7 of the tracks over the week and i think its pretty decent. it seems like a grower.

Lily Allen
personally i think Lily Allen is awesome............for a pop star. i'm not going to compare her to rock bands or any other genre but pure pop. i think Alright Still is easily the best pop ska what ever u want to call it, album of the decade. not only is it original and unique but the music has a sense of dance-ability and soul. and so far every track i've heard of her upcoming album sounds great also especially Guess Who Batman. honestly i dont give a damn about what she does in her own time as long as keeps making great music i'll continue to like her. most of my favourite artists/bands have lived a life of drugs, sex and alcohol and that hasn't meant that i enjoy their music any less because of it. so lily in my eyes isnt any different.

Arcade Fire
