  1. its not commericialised. it politised. notice how every year the winner of best album is of a different genre. last year was jazz, the year before it was country the year before was rock and the year before that was r'n'b. i wouldnt be surprised if one of the hip hop albums take it out this time. but radiohead's nomination would be the only one i agree with. i dont think people watch the awards to see who wins, thats all trivial. personally i watch for the performances and duets and so on. and i think the grammys accept that which is why only 9 of the 110 awards are handed out on the night.
  2. i wouldnt be surprised if radiohead dont turn up at all to the awards. all power to them i say!!
  3. they might be very well known. but not many non-alternative music fans could name more than 3 or 4 songs. u could never compare the popularity of radiohead with U2. U2 do massive stadium tours around the world on every continent and have sold over 150 million records. radiohead have barely hit 30 million despite their massive critical acclaim. they maybe household names in england and parts of europe but i dont see how a band thats only played on 3 of America's top 1000 radio stations can be considered to be household names. the album in rainbows single handedly changed my taste in music so i have an obvious liking for it. but the only category in which i said radiohead should clearly win is alternative album because its the only album thats been nominated in best album of the year.
  4. jonny greenwood has been nominated for the soundtrack of There Will Be Blood. you may remember that his album was ineligible for an oscar despite huge critical acclaim. his up against the OST of Wall - E , Iron Man,Dark Knight and Indiana Jones. his up against the likes of James Newton Howard and John Williams who are highly highly respected movie composers and have won countless awards.
  5. i wonder if radiohead will perform or not. they were invited to do so back in 1998 when OK computer was nominated for best album. they said they would like to do Exit Music which ends with the lines "we hope you choke" this didnt go down well with the band so they opted out and rejected an offer to present an award. will be very interesting to see what goes down this time. coldplay will perform no doubt.
  6. this show is on my bday :) :) sadly i made a bit of a stuff up in ordering them so ive been stuck in one of the shitty areas. but at least im in :) looking forward to a great gig
  7. earlier on the nominations for the 51st annual grammy awards were announced. personally im not a big fan of award nights but being the music nerd i am i cant help but pay a bit of attention to the grammys. the most successful artist was Lil Wayne who picked up 8 followed by coldplay with 7 then three rap artist kanye west, jay-z and ne-yo. Radiohead deservedly picked up 5 noms alongside former led zep frontman robert plant in his interesting yet brilliant duet with country star Alison krauss. on the other hand metallica got three nominations. here are some of the categories i feel deserve some attention Record of the year- this is for the best song taking into consideration engineering and mixing and production. awards usually to the people behind the scenes Chasing Pavements,Adele Eg White, producer; Tom Elmhirst & Steve Price, engineers/mixers Track from: 19 Viva La Vida,Coldplay Markus Dravs, Brian Eno & Rik Simpson, producers; Michael Brauer & Rik Simpson, engineers/mixers Track from: Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends Bleeding Love, Leona Lewis Simon Cowell, Clive Davis & Ryan "Alias" Tedder, producers; Craig Durrance, Phil Tan & Ryan "Alias" Tedder, engineers/mixers Paper Planes,M.I.A Diplo, producer; Switch, engineer/mixer Track from: Kala Please Read The Letter, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss T Bone Burnett, producer; Mike Piersante, engineer/mixer Track from: Raising Sand the production work in Paper Planes blew my mind from the very first time i heard it, which was well over a year ago when she was big on the alt scene. i still love the song Album Of The Year - self explanatory Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, Coldplay Markus Dravs, Brian Eno & Rik Simpson, producers; Tha Carter III, Lil Wayne Year Of The Gentleman, Ne-Yo Raising Sand, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss T Bone Burnett, producer; In Rainbows, Radiohead Nigel Godrich, producer; in rainbows hands down. wont be hearing complaints from me if robert plant wins Best Electronic/Dance Album New York City, Brazilian Girls Alive 2007, Daft Punk Bring Ya To The Brink, Cyndi Lauper X, Kylie Minogue Last Night, Moby Robyn, Robyn i thought daft punk live was amazing. any objections? Best Rock Song - any song with guitars drums and vocals in it will do. Girls In Their Summer Clothes,Bruce Springsteen, House Of Cards, (Radiohead) I Will Possess Your Heart, (Death Cab For Cutie) Sex On Fire, (Kings Of Leon) Violet Hill, (Coldplay) im confused here. half these songs arent even rock Best Rock Album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, Coldplay Rock N Roll Jesus, Kid Rock Only By The Night, Kings Of Leon Death Magnetic, Metallica Consolers Of The Lonely,The Raconteurs horrible line up of albums. but consolers is my fave album of the year so racons all the way!! Best Alternative Music Album - my favourite category. one the grammys always pulls off very well. Modern Guilt, Beck Narrow Stairs, Death Cab For Cutie The Odd Couple, Gnarls Barkley Evil Urges, My Morning Jacket In Rainbows, Radiohead logic would tell you that radiohead should win easily. but i think any of these albums deserve it Best Short Form Music Video - another one of my fave awards Honey Erykah Badu, Erykah Badu & Mr. Roboto, video directors Who's Gonna Save My Soul, Gnarls Barkley Christopher Milk, video director; Another Way To Die, Alicia Keys & Jack White PR Brown & MK12, video directors; House Of Cards, Radiohead James Frost, video director; Pork And Beans, Weezer Mathew Cullen, video director; im gonna say house of cards but i like all of these videos. what are your tips. feel free to add other awards that may interest you

  17. i would go as far as to say that Carolina Drama is one of the best songs of the decade to be never released as a single. its a big call but i firmly believe it.
  18. the frontman of the best band australia ever produced and arent we mighty proud to have produced and discovered such a talent. proof of how good he was here is footage of the band in their finest hour at london's wembley stadium in front of a packed out crowd of about 80 000 fans. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdhxYVPd1Nw]YouTube - INXS - Never Tear Us Apart - Live Baby Live[/ame] and a more lively hutchence [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbaqQtYCLlI]YouTube - Live Baby Live ~ What You Need[/ame]
  19. over the last year ive been really getting into the chemical brothers albums. ive got everything from Surrender to We Are The Night now and all of them have impressed me. but what ive enjoyed the most are their wicked liive shows. most people preceive live electronic music to be a guy standing there pushing play pause and stop on a record player. but these guys are sooo much more. their sound is incredibly dense and complex and the way their improvise live on stage is brilliant. easily the best electronic act of all time. i have a knack for liking the title tracks of each other albums
  20. some aussie bands you might like Birds of Tokyo - songs: Broken Bones, Wayside, Wild Eyed Boy The Panics - songs: Dont Fight It, Cruel Guards, Get Us Home The Grates- songs: Burn Bridges, 19-20-20, Sukkafish John Butler Trio- songs: Funky Tonight, Good Excuse, Better Than , Zebra hope you enjoy
  21. i remember when sam's town first came out. the reaction was about the same. some love and alot of hate then two years on most people have gotten used to it and appreciate it for what it is. i think the main purpose of this album is to bring some sort of variety in their live shows. a departure from the fist pumping synth rock anthems that their first two records possessed. i think if they choose to strip away much of the extra instruments and layers on the songs for their live show then it would make things alot more appealing and somewhat interesting.
  22. nobody has mentioned Aenima by Tool!!!! shame on you all!!
  23. i was just wondering if we could add a poll to this thread about which the killers album is the best. or would we have to start up a new thread of that?
