anyone else read the heated debate richard kingsmill had on twitter with a hip hop blogger called Peak Street? would have to be the most ironic thing i've seen all week. for as long as i can remember kingsmill has been slammed for his highly successful attempt to take australian hip hop to the masses and out of the underground. and now this hip hop blogger is insulting him for not playing the "right" hip hop on triple j. hip hop fans should glad their "music" gets any attention whatsoever. 90% of it is insufferable bullshit.

LATE REGISTRATION FTW!!! i'm not going to say out n out that it is superior to MBDTF but it is easily my favourite kanye album. its just so much more easier to listen to and isnt as harsh on the ears as his new one. half of Graduation is also brilliant, sadly the other half lets it down.

oh i also kinda read that as 50 million albums. also we gotta remember it costs $1 to buy a single these days. before u had to buy the physical single CD with b-sides on it, usually costing 4 or 5 bucks.

well it's the morning after now. last night was the most weird and wonderful concert i have ever been to. when my jaw wasnt on the floor from amazement i was laughing my head off at his on stage antics. great crowd too!!!

i like a majority of the songs and artists on that poll. but that has got to be the worst top 20 i have ever seen in hottest 100 history.

50 million is how many they have shipped. meaning thats how many EMI has sent to retailers and the like. how many have ended in hands of consumers is harder to measure. and just cos one band or artist is struggling doesnt mean the industry as a whole is hurting. it just means its become a tougher industry to be a part of. now i can only provide an australian perspective so here are some vital stats according to Live Performance Australia In 2004 music festivals were attended by 190 000 people and saw a revenue of $9million. In 2008 that rose to 1.2 milion people and revenue of over $66 million. that has plateaued in the following years. In 2004 pop and rock concerts (so basically the shows most of us here would go to) had a total attendence of 2.7 million and revenue of close to $200 million. By 2009 that figure rose 4.6 million people and $460 million in revenue. In 2007 it actually close the half billion mark. The subsequent global financial crisis caused the dip in revenue. from where i sit the numbers speak for themselves.

i like quite like Gorgeous but wouldnt say it is one of the stand out tracks. i still don't like Blame Game and depending on my mood All of the Lights can sound great or like a whole lot of noise.

i've also listened to it 3 times and its had a similar impact on me as Bright like Neon Love. but i agree its not quite in ghost colours. but then again i hated in ghost colour for the first 6 months.

a lot depends on your taste in music. glastonbury has fairly minimal heavy music and urban music (which is slowly changing) whereas other big fests dont tend to restrict themselves in that way which makes them more appealing to some people and less to others.

coldplay arrived on the scene at the perfect time. when the band hit superstardom in 2003, CD sales were at all time highs. ever since 2003 CD sales have fallen dramatically and consequently so have coldplays. also, both linkin park and norah jones have sold 50 million in the last 10 years.

glastonbury would hardly rank in the top 5 in the world in terms of festival line ups. festivals like rock wercther, roskilde, coachella and others provide far superior line ups year in year out. but a great line up has never been the reason why glasto is held in such high esteem. glastonbury to many music fans around is like a spiritual musical pilgrimage. its all about being part of that massive tent city with 150 000 for 4 days. its the history, both mythical and factual. its the one festival that even non-music fans know about. glastonbury is great cos its fucking glastonbury!

two reasons for that 1. i've said this one a few times. if you have a ton of good songs on your album. you're at a disadvantage because your fans will all vote for different songs. 2. the good bands dont enjoy any mainstream success. although triple j is an alternative music station some of the songs they play (typically the shit ones) get picked up by the commercial stations who play it twice every 10mins.

i knew it!!! Na Li in the final!!! i was at the sydney final two weeks back when na li played clijsters. in the first set clijster had a 4-0 lead and looked like running away with it but na li won the set in the end 7-5. and the second set was all one way traffic with na li winning the match easily. but this is a grand slam final, totally different setting and a setting clijsters has done well in lately. im tipping Kim sad to see federer bow out. but this opens up a massive opportunity for the others. i'm tipping Murray to be too good for Ferrer tomorrow then Djok in the final.

loving triple j's BDO coverage. only been listening a couple of hours so far but they've had a ton of interesting interviews with the big names and now broadcasting Sia live to air. unlike channel v who have spent the last 4hrs showing ads. gotta love it how their coverage worsens every year. i first watched back in 2008 and it was a good 8hrs of almost non stop live performances with the odd interview. now its a shitload of shit interviews with shit artists then shit performances by those shit arists.

woo congrats on passing 2000! its only natural that people are hating on the hottest 100. people love to hate the stuff at the top of anything. why? simply because it's popular and disliking popular things makes you feel and seem superior those who enjoy popular things.

the music industry should not be confused with the record industry. the music industry is made up of the record industry and live music industry. records are going terrible and everyone knows that but live music is rising by the day and more than compensates for the lack of CD sales. if anything the music industry is doing better than ever.
