  1. Laneway is usually about 6000 people from what ive read. AF could play bigger venues by themselves. Laneway is the only major festival left to announce its lineup so imo it's most likely that AF will tour by themselves. BDO tix are $155 + fees so make it 165. i can go to sunset sounds and enjoy 2 days of great music for that much.
  2. ^^ the rumours seems to be saying that arcade fire will not be touring with a festival. whats Laneway's capacity?
  3. it's pathetic. 08-09 we only conceded 24 goals and last season only 28 goals. this season we've already let in 9 :S
  4. ok i'll write what i can remember now and edit as i remember things 10-13 whatever my brother had on his computer including some classics. one song that i remember very well was a crappy radio rip of November Rain, i also remember the thong song by sisqo i think it was and whereever you will go by the Calling. this was also the time when i first started listening to linkin park who i discovered through my obsession with dragonballz, a lot of the dbz montages online used LP as background music. i also became quite the eminem fan with songs like sing for the moment and the way i am and stan. but in terms of new music it was restricted to whatever was in the top 4 or 5 of the charts. 13-15 this was when i got my own computer and a dial up internet connection. so when i wasnt looking up porn i was downloading whatever song was popular at the time. i would determine my downloads by looking through the ads for ringtones they would have in the paper. so my playlist was usually a reflection of the most popular ringtones of the time. linkin park was still my favourite but amidst all my teenage angst i really started to like simple plan and good charlotte. being into rock music had a emo tag attached to it, so i would usually download a lot of usher, 50 cent, nelly and christina aguilera. i really hated coldplay at this stage 15-17 the defining moment for me was Live8. the event started around 11pm sydney and went right through the night into the late morning. at this stage my passion for music was really coming through, so i stole my brothers discman radio and listened to the event right through. i heard pink floyd, the who, paul mccartney, elton john, u2, coldplay, muse and the killers. and my eyes were opened to the amazing world of rock n roll and i havent looked back since. from that point i started listening to my local rock station and went on to discover the stones, led zep, queen, ac/dc and inxs. i also fell in love with coldplay after hearing The Scientist for the first time and buying x&y the day it came out. 17-present it was oct.10 2007 when it all changed for me. i was just flicking through radio stations and i accidentally tuned into triple j a station i never listened to. but i heard this voice i knew i had heard somewhere before and the DJ kept saying mentioning radiohead. then i remembered an article that was on the front page of the paper the day before about radiohead releasing their album for free. so i put two n two together and sat back and enjoyed the music with little expectations. by the end of the album i was simply amazed, i couldnt believe the shear quality and brilliance of the music i had just heard. i wouldnt say i developed any sort of hatred for commercial music at that point rather i began to admire the beauty of listening to an album from start to finish. and i havent looked back since. of course radiohead has gone on to become one of my favourite bands.
  5. mixed reactions to BDO lineup but it's all positive at the ARIAs. Album of the Year Angus & Julia Stone - Down The Way (Original Matters/EMI) Birds of Tokyo - Birds Of Tokyo (EMI) Sia - We Are Born (Monkey Puzzle/Inertia) Tame Impala – Innerspeaker (Modular Recordings) Washington - I Believe You Liar (Mercury/UMA) 5 alternative scene acts!! awesome!! Single of the Year Angus & Julia Stone - Big Jet Plane (Original Matters/EMI) Birds of Tokyo – Plans (EMI) Sia - Clap Your Hands (Monkey Puzzle/Inertia) The Temper Trap - Love Lost (Liberation Music) Washington - How To Tame Lions (Mercury/UMA) even more awesome!! Best Rock Album Birds of Tokyo - Birds Of Tokyo (EMI) Cloud Control - Bliss Release (Ivy League Records/Universal) Eddy Current Suppression Ring - Rush to Relax (Suppression Records/Shock) Powderfinger - Golden Rule (UMA) Tame Impala - Innerspeaker (Modular Recordings) not sure how rock cloud control is but very happy with this Washington, A+J Stone, birds of tokyo and Sia all picked up 6 noms. tame impala and temper trap have 5 each. finally an awards night with some common sense.
  6. wow thats pretty awesome. Monster is easily top 5 for me. Power is also up there.
  7. regardless it will sell out in no time and expect possible 2nd days in sydney and melbourne. possible (but unlikely) sideshows for me Lupe LCD Crystal Castles TOOL!!
  8. Tool would be worth the ticket price for me. but having to deal with 30 000 of their fans in the main arena wouldnt be worth it. im a big Lupe fan too and i would love to see Grinderman in action. the only other international act that impresses me is LCD and ive already seen them and crystal castles would be an awesome experience. funnily enough most of the acts i want to see are aussie. either way theres enough there to keep me happy for the entire day. nevertheless i wont be going because of summer school.

  10. Aus day is 24th? arrive here on a boat did we alex?
  11. BDO website has gone into maintenance mode. stand by for potentially a massive surprise!! it starts on Jan 21! rather late......
  12. staying with the sporting theme. the NRL grand final has just sold out before general sale even started.
  13. ^^ might see you there!! my friends have been awfully quiet about it all, they seem disinterested suddenly. why doesnt everyone spend all their pay on gigs and festivals like i do? weird people. been hanging around the fasterlouder forums tonight. their favourite seems to be Tool as the headliner even though they headlined only 3yrs ago and havent released anything since.
  14. ^^ awesome!! i really hope to catch Cut Copy in some form or another over summer. whats the atmosphere like at Parklife? most of the people i know who went had almost no idea who was playing or who they wanted to see. they were just going for a nice day out. so im guessing it's a little more relaxed than most other festivals, at least rock fests. and wow grace, you're having a big year gig/fest wise. splendour then parklife plus a lot of other shows. didnt you go to BDO earlier in the year too? a little sidenote. aria noms are out tomorrow morning.
  15. i admire their athletic abilities but being a sydneysider rugby league is in my blood and afl is pretty foreign to me. they want to start up a new afl team in the area i live in. im predicting it will be an epic fail, the sport of rugby league is so deeply ingrained in peoples hearts and minds here nothing else can work well here.
  16. pretty funny outcome for a pretty funny sport :P
  17. yeah i wish they had toured here properly last year. oh well they've done 3 aus tours for 3 albums so theyre not too bad. my body doesnt allow me to fall asleep before 1am so i guess i'll be here. im kinda hoping AF are on the line up but dont announce sideshows for a while.
  18. havent had much of a chance to listen to So Appalled properly. but from my first couple of listens it's not a bad song but a very simple concept stretched over 6mins, 3mins too long imo.
  19. ^^ did you see the clues? arcade fire seem more and more likely by the day. and by the sounds of things we might have a genuine double headliner BDO.
  20. awesome. did you get any sort of student deal? i got my 13 inch MBP last summer holidays and they gave me 10% off the price, a free 8gb ipod touch and a free multi function printer. i went for the pro because i wanted to have something i wouldnt mind looking at for the next 3 or 4 yrs. the aluminum unibody of the pro gives me just that :D
  21. just dug up my top 25 from last year and unlike 2008 i havent changed my mind that drastically. i agree with eddie, MPP has gone from being no.10 on my list to an easy top 5. lisa mitchell's debut was outside my top 10 but would be in it now. i hadnt listened properly to florence + the machines album when i made my list initially but after spending almost a year with it, it's now one of my favourites of the year. but franz's tonight album has dropped and so has bat for lashes's two suns.
  22. ^^ yeah i was going to post that website too. good one to use.
  23. alrighty we're a few hours away from another GOOD Friday track. the fact that i've listened to Lord Lord Lord only twice since it's release just proves to me how fast this week has flown by. really not sure what to expect. hoping for something that involves a bit more Bon Iver. the jayz kanye collab album will be out November 23. not what it might be called. but Monster will be getting an official video. and apparently taylor swift's new album will be dominated by kanye hating songs. which is exactly what kanye wanted her to do. she really needs to shut up and move on. let kanye bash himself then talk himself up for bashing himself.
