yeah this guy is pretty cool. i dont understand why people do it. i mean, sure, im on here checking which shows that i am wasting a good deal of time on this site until this album comes out (and until we get it confirmed there's going to be one right after it!!:D), but i can't imagine the life lacked by someone who gets kicks out this stuff. pff, who cares anyways, june 17th in america

i do not believe you have 42 and strawberry swing sorry, but we've been told by one to many people (and by one to many i mean one, being coldplayer34...prick) that they have heard/got these songs tell me about the song and maybe i'll believe you if you are lying, i like how you went about it a different route by saying the songs suck...bound to get us interested and if you do have them, my apologies. its just like i said, i got my hopes up before.

wow all this hate is really kind of disgusting. i'm catholic, but i respect everyone's opinions in regards to religion. i think the bible thumping christians from the bible-belt of the united states are in many ways full of their own shit, and completely unreligious. that being said, "bible thumping christians" in it of itself is a stereotype, and not all people from this "bible-belt" act in this manner. there was a homily at my church and my priest said we should basically try to convert others...i completely disagree. believe in what you want to believe, dont shove it in others faces. the greatest human ability is to be able to come to your own conclusions when presented with the unknown. let everyone else come to their own conclusions. don't say stuff like, "oh i fear for your soul" or "i hope god saves you". thats self serving garbage. don't give bs in these discussions either, like someone here said the song could be interpreted to mean coldplay dislike jesus or something. his reason was that jerusalem and rome had to do with jesus's crucifixion. come on man, thats a ludicrous interpretation, and cannot actually be what you think. im not even going to bother telling people my interpretations, but if you are going to pretend to be giving an opinion, dont...give a real one. but yeah, everyone believe what you want to believe, but be respectful as well. theres no need to refute anothers beliefs, unless of course like i did myself, when the person is offering non sensical reasoning. there's nothing about crucifixion in the entire song, and i can't understand any person thinking so without a good argument for it. if someone thinks im being a hypocryte, feel free to say it. but i think im being pretty reasonable. with a discussion like this, just be respectful and truthful, not petty and foolish.

yeah i dont get the coldplay hate myself...i dont see how you can actually hate a band. sure everyone hates certain styles, but i mean come on. ive also heard the "you're gay if you listen to coldplay". this was said to me by multiple friends when i first discovered coldplay back with AROBTTH. now all these friends like coldplay. so jokes on the bastards who say they dislike them for no concrete reason.

Thats something I think most people have thought about, but like in my case, never really put into words - but yeah, great point. U2, and especially Bono (because the lyrics are his) is especially driven by the times he grew up in, and his past, whether that be Irelands or his own families. Coldplay is another generation entirely, so hence the way they go about things. Really though, well said.

okay, this thread needs to be talked about. i was sure that the song we had heard was lovers in japan (from the greys), if its death and all his friends that changes quite a bit. i dont see how it could be, its got nothing to do with death, and i didnt think it matched any of the stuff they talked about in the articles about how it sounds

i will take another album no problem. maybe when VlVADAAHF comes out we'll get some note like someone said above about getting the other one soon. that would be a sweet bit of news.

yeah i think everyone's going a little crazy here. its thirty seconds of whats supposed to be the most epic/long song on the album (besides maybe the two songs as one song thing). im interested to see what happens with the rest obviously. i dont want to tell people to chill out - be excited. but i myself will be waiting for something more sizeable to pass any judgement. but yes, intriguing to say the least.

Okay, now I'm still relatively new to this forum, so I don't know if there's any threads about the best Coldplay music videos, but if there isn't, maybe this can serve the discussion. The main reason I wanna do this is because I wouldn't have met Coldplay when I did if it wasn't for The Scientist music video. That is easily my favorite. I like how it tells a story, its unconventional nature and just the whole feeling you get while watching it. I do wonder if anyone else saw the error in it though, where the glass from the car goes back into the windshield, and its shown fixed, and then they show the car flipping backwards and the glass is broken or not there entirely. Did anyone else notice this? Either way great video. What is/are your favorite(s)?

agreed. facepaint is definitely odd, and i think if they incorporated into the tour or videos or more appearances, i might be a little miffed. that being said i think its all in good fun. but yeah, coldplays old sound (which still permeates in their songs from time to time) was perfect for the stuff they wore, but if they wore that stuff with these songs, which are definitely different, on a musical and lyrical scale. i mean, chris didn't use to use a lot of references to other things like he does in viva la vida and violet hill, which seem to come from a different world and perspective. this different world requires a different dress.

Also, why is everyone ranking Yes, i mean, havent we only heard like a few discerinble seconds of it? Also Lovers in Japan and Lost (acoustic) might sound better on album once theyre clean. I will go against the ranking syndrome and say...they are all great songs. Seriously, for some people they might really not like one or the other, so ranking for them makes sense, but for me there hasn't been one ive disliked at all. I'd say A Spell A Rebel Yell is worthy of being a b-side though. But really, VLV, LIJ, LIT, VH, Lost...they are all such great and different songs. Coldplay really raised their game in my eyes with this album. I'm not a food enthusiast, but you know when they talk about combinations of foods that engage the palette (misspelled)? Viva la Vida is an album that engages my musical pallete.

lol yeah i wasnt sure if the basketball reference would work here, maybe some football, and when i say football i mean football, not american football (which is vastly overrarted my fellow americans). im very up on all the latest stuff with football, not so great with the legends and stuff, but ive heard of the likes of catana (misspelled?), best, bobby charlton, kenny daiglish...basically im saying you cant call guys like wayne rooney or theo walcott the next best or charlton or daiglish (if these comparisons have been made is not something i would know) because most of them won't even reach that level (like the oasis's and radioheads of the world) and the one's that do (like coldplay) are going to be different then them anyways. i'll do a little chart Oasis = Once young player with boat loads of potential, but he never really did what people thought he could. Radiohead = Similarly young player who people thought could be the best ever. now only fans from this players club really like them. U2 - absolute legends of sport. they were great over multiple generations, and captured the hearts and imaginations of many a fan. Coldplay - they were just like Oasis and Radiohead at one point in time, but they broke through that to become what many people see as truly comparable to u2. thing is, they are very different players, so even though they both may be seen as great, theyre a different kind of great. maybe that clears it up. football is really the only sport i can talk about knowledably from europe. so if your a cricket fan or a rugby fan than your fresh out of luck for understanding my meaning lol.

i think i might want to subscribe to the "i wont listen to it if it all leaks" theory, but i doubt i'll be able to stop myself. im paying for it anyways - in itunes and in physical release, because with bands i really like i need the actual cd, just in case anything ever happened with my itunes.

okay well thats good yeah your right, this is very interesting u2 and coldplay have always fluctuated between being my top band at the moment. i think coldplay with viva la vida might have secured the spot indefinitely, but u2's got a new album coming up, but you could say im kind of dreading it because i dont expect it to be as good some of their other stuff. that is really the main difference for me between coldplay and u2, and we can please try to contain this issue with out thinking about longevitity. what i mean to say is, there is a lot of u2 music i do not like at all. where as with coldplay there is very little of their music i can say i outright dislike. if you do take into account longevity than it must be said u2 has been around a lot longer, so therefore they will have more duds than coldplay. but still, percentage wise i think u2s got less good songs per dud. who is say that coldplay wont have an album that is almost completely duds. i think pop and zoorapa could be seen as those type of albums for u2, but thats just my personal opinion as a fan. some u2 fans like those albums. but i think with time coldplay will obviously have a miscalculation somewhere, because even the best bands have bad ideas or missteps. there is obviously a correlation between these bands, not just in terms of popularity, but in style, because otherwise so many people wouldnt like both. its not like we're comparing guns and roses and coldplay. but this is the type of stuff that happens with anything - think sports for example. everyone is supposed to be the next this or the next that. most of the time it doesn't happen (just like with bands like oasis, radiohead, etc, and im not referring to quality, but rather "biggest band in the world" type ideas), and sometimes it does (like with coldplay). but the thing is the next that or the next this is always a different that or this. I follow basketball, so even though Kobe Bryant and Lebron James are amazing players, the guy they were compared to, Michael Jordan, they are not. not that they lack the quality, but they are just simply different. u2 and coldplay are simply different.

like people have said here, x & y by itself isn't all that bad. its actually pretty good. but i came into coldplay with arobtth, and then i found out about parachutes, and those were the sounds that were coldplay for me. x & y changed that up for me, and i dont think it was the right change. they were bigger but certainly not better for me. i think on first listen x & y would probably beat both albums. but once you truly get to know the songs from the first two albums, they are wholely more rewarding.

woah, from a liverpool fans standpoint this might just make me never listen to coldplay again. i really don't know how im going to deal with this, im gonna need sometime to reflect on it mind you, its better than a man utd or chelsea fan

i must admit im not minding the stuff, its all goint towards the theatricality of it all. theyre a big rock band, and the way the music is sounding from viva la vida, i couldnt see them in normal white t and jeans. the makeup seems like it might be some kind of joke with war paint type thing, playing off violet hill maybe...just a guess. if coldplay released a different type of album maybe different clothes would be warranted, and these aren't exactly off the deep end like some other bands do (ie panic at the disco as posted here). i couldnt pull off wearing anything like this, im jeans and t shirt, but from a band with coldplays style now, i say why not?

yah dude my bad. what i said in the previous comment should be ammended. i know ireland's getting very rich because the younger generation. per capita income is higher than u.s.a. if i remember correctly. great tech jobs among other things. i get your points also. i think bono is arrogant, but there's this part of me that doesn't want to believe it because im a big fan of the music. if you read the book you would see some thoughtful but short comments from most of the bandmates, and then Bono would go on some rampage where yeah...he was being an a-hole. once again, my bad with the "poor" comment, i was typing all that crap up real fast, not really thinking. and yeah lol, if you couldnt tell ive not been in ireland ever but for visiting some relatives every few years, but i sense you understood that. like you said, if we're just talking about music though, i still think u2's pretty good. there's lots of arrogant guys out there, that doesn't mean their music is bad. but yeah, whatever. the bands are different. this thread should be dead until someone decides to post a different thread in a few weeks...and bring this argument up again, but im personally done. and yeah, i apologize bout the poor comment, that was a head on backwards moment.
