ALL FANS... LETS STEP BACK AND RE-ASSESS
I count myself lucky to be among the people to see this groups evolution as a band. When new people find out about coldplay in another ten years, and they see all the stuff as a whole, theyll probably not think about how much they progressed in their time, but we get to see it unveil before our very eyes. I don't know why someone should assume that everyone is just gaga for some album because its new. I had to listen to X and Y so much to like the songs. I basically had to get used to them. Now I hardly ever listent to it. I love the album, its just at the moment, its not at the top of list of stuff to listent to. It had some great songs in my opinion, but it wasn't there best. I think this album has just completely taken them to a new level. There isn't a song I dislike. The comment about it being this big song or story is very similar to how I feel. I always listen to the album all the way through. I don't skip any of the songs, and I don't feel like I ever will, because they are all so different and interesting, yet seemingly intertwined. People are going to think what they want, and I think this is going to be a classic album. It will probably be hugely successful in the mainstream due to viva la vida itunes commercial, much like vertigo was for u2 (much to my chagrin...u2 is great, that song sucks), but I think its value to its fans will be greater. We may all look at it as a big change, and maybe some fans will jump off the band wagon. But I think when we look back in ten years, we'll be trying to understand why this was such a "big departure". This album is class, but everyone has their opinion. People can think what they like.

coldplay live on radio 2 this afternoon, Front Row R4 this evening
Now I know we can debate what the interviewer said that we might have not heard, but from what I heard I thought he was asking good, if not completely informed questions. I mean, this guy doesn't sound like a Coldplay fan lol, not based on questions, just based on idk, voice/age/demeanor. I think Chris is obviously writes lyrics that are very personal to him, and I think when your putting out an album you've got a lot of pressure and these things must be hitting him a lot (what he wrote about, who he wrote about, etc) and when you have an interviewer maybe getting into that, it might be area he didn't want to venture. I mean, I certainly wouldn't be keen on offering all my thoughts and words to the world without some serious thinking on it, and even if you did, its got to be hard to see them deconstructed in front of you. I don't think it was a slanted interview, I think it was done by a guy who really didn't get Coldplay or give the album a serious listen. It might have been he just had someone tell him about the themes. That's how he acted, kind of informed, but not firsthand. It's nerves really, and when you think about your words hitting the masses, you probably want to have some control over what those words are going to mean to them, and I think thats why Chris was unhappy the questions were leading, as opposed to open ended. But truly, if they weren't entirely leading would he elaborate, I mean we've all heard how often he dodges or kind of circles questions. The sexist joke thing was just a plain misunderstanding from a guy who doesn't understand his personality. I don't think the guy was really serious about it though, the way some people wrote about it, it made me think he indicted him for a crime. All in all it was a pretty useless interview. But I don't think you can blame the interviewer or Chris.

wow im downloading the interview to hear right now. im quite obviously kind of feeling defensive for the band and chris rather than the interviewer, but i'll have to hear before i make a judgment.

The WORST song on the album!!!!!!
i like all these songs way to much right now, and i absolutely refuse to pick a favorite cuz they all have so many great parts. but lovers in japan is just such a bloody brilliant song imo. i mean, the acoustic version just blew me away, and the album version ive gotten into after many listens. the chorus hit me cuz i feel the same way right now, with all this college crap going on. everyone's trying to figure on whats going inside, and im just keeping me head down. it really spoke to me on so many levels so i cant say i think its a bad song at all really

The Jesus of Uncool: Chris Martin: The Rolling Stone Interview
wow this is an awesome article, i cant wait to read the rest. right on with obama though. he's gonna put our country back where it belongs. i love chris's frustration too, because we all feel it. im not embarressed to be an american, but im embarressed by a lot of americans, and none greater than Bush. but besides all the politics which really doesnt have a place on the forum, chris is just an awesome dude. the fact that he joked about being married to someone who dated brad pitt...thats just priceless.

The end of Cementries of London IS SPINE TINGLINGLY BRILLIANT!

What type of people listen to Coldplay
yeah i dont know if there is a type of person who listens to a group, there might be certain reasons you do and do not like them, whether it be the type of sound, chris's lyrics, etc. im definitely taken by the emotional backbone of the group. im a reflective person. i think the band is reflective. but this type of thing really doesn't fall into age groups, or the idk, i guess you could say stereotype but i think thats looking at it a little to evil. i mean i play sports, love em, watch em all the time. but i bet theres a ton of people who wouldn't bother with sports. i think reasons why people like music is deeply personal, and not something you can look at and be like, "oh thats definitely a coldplay fan"

COLDPLAY IS BULLSHIT...
It's got to suck that theyre moving things back, but really, put it into some perspective. Shitloads of mad devoted fans can't see them at all, a lot of them on this very forum. I'd probably be pissed too if something like this happened, probably very pissed, but it's not the bands fault. Obviously something had to have come up - whatever came up is immaterial though. You'll get a better show anyways for waiting. I wish I could see them play, unfortunately ive got to go to college when there was a concert I could have seen.

Song Meaning
Is it just mean or does 2000 Miles seem like a Christmas song? It could just be me. Edit: I also wonder if Reign of Love is a love song. Not really sure. Anyone got any thoughts on that?

One Thing Missing
yeah there's nothing quite like the scientist, but i think it might foolish to have other carbon copies of this song. i think theyre are definitely love songs, and songs with great emotional soul. lovers in japan acoustic is that way. daahf is like that a bit. reign of love is a pretty simple love ballad.

Reign of Love Appreciation Thread
this song has grown on me i think you've got to be in a certain mood for this song...but the idea of using this song for when your married doesn't suprise me, its got that feeling
-
Anyone suprised that Lovers in Japan will be the next single..?
yeah this song just hit me in all the right places, you can apply the chorus to probably anything in life
-
Anyone only like certain parts of 42?
definitely not a single...too weird. but yeah, the three parts kind of stick in my head truthfully. this is one of the songs I can't get out of my head, and I'm not mad its there. this one was a grower for me. first few listens I was like, "wtf are thinking", but after a few more I can appreciate it for its different nature. it seems a throwback to x & y though
-
Album Or Solo Piano?
when i heard the acoustic version i thought to myself, "shit, coldplay is just great. chris's lyrical prowess is amazing." i mean, when i first heard, "just because I'm losing, doesn't mean I'm lost" even before chris said it was the heart of the album, the line struck me. the whole song did. i think you lose its heart with the bigger louder album version, and i think i wouldnt enjoy the album version nearly as much if i wasnt thinking back to the acoustic. that being said I don't dislike it either. its still pretty good on the album.

Cemeteries Of London :)
i think i really just discovered how great this song was with another closer listen, its pretty good...but so is the whole album
-
Can someone please post lyrics to Strawberry Swing?
what a great song. it is just pure bliss.
-
Studio Noises
yeah theyre pretty great, it just makes it seem more personal, like the band isnt hiding everything from you. its the desired imperfectness that makes albums perfect. x & y seemed so manufactured, and by that i mean there was nothing like this. i think its a little bit of eno touch that it was so obvious, especially in strawberry swing
-
New VLVODAAHF Release date?!
im kind of skeptical this is true, i know the album leaked, but its a big deal to change up all the shipping so close to the release date...itd be one thing if they had planned to do this the whole time, but i dont think it will happen truthfully

best and worst songs off vlv
yeah i guess i agree reign of love is the worst, that being said, i think it might be a grower for me, one that could find its place in my musical catalog overtime i dont get the hate on chinese sleep chant though, i friggen love that song but im against picking favorites, there's too many good ones
-
Strawberry Swing is supringly my favoritetrack!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
i absolutely love this song. on album that just wreaks of coldplay being extremely cool, this is the song that made me think it the most from the get go. i mean i love them, but the guitar in this song is just genius. and the way chris sings is also great. it does feel like the perfect day. i really think this should be a single, it just has this amazing feel to me, it seems like a kind of career defining song. coldplay has got plenty of those already, so itll be hard to get up there, but i can so see this as a music video. this should be released as a single in july - it would be a summer hit.
