Hymn for the Weekend is being criticised for misusing Indian culture (BBC)
I agree about freedom being oppressed. And yes its hard to take a stand in an environment of mob mentality as you call it, especially where voices of dissent against the status quo are quickly silenced with gratuitous monickers & labels. I remember a good saying about "my personal freedom ends where yours begins". Its not always easy to see where that line goes, and sometimes we are tricked into believing something is good and not even realise its oppressing us. Its all very tricky and all too easy to be misled and you almost need a map to navigate through it!

Hymn for the Weekend is being criticised for misusing Indian culture (BBC)
Im not saying Bollywood does not represent other races (I have no way of knowing this, being ignorant about bollywood movies and apologise if my post implied that), but Im saying that people in India are not being checked about whether they fulfill certain quotas of representation or not in terms of races/gender/etc in their movies. As far as Im concerned only the west seems to be the focus of this. And Im not sure Oscars represent a global film award...in fact they do have a section specific for foreign movies. The Oscars are a prize given, as far as I know, from people in the industry to people of the industry in the USA. There are other prizes in Europe which have different focus and often feature more local movies. We also have a danish film festival in Denmark , etc :)

Hymn for the Weekend is being criticised for misusing Indian culture (BBC)
Thank you for posting this. It´s also my impression that people actually belonging to the culture they accuse of appropriating usually feel the same way we do about it, that is as a homage and a flattering thing instead! And I think showing the "poor" regions was probably a good thing in terms of showing a realistic India, but showing beauty despite the poverty/challenges as you mentioned. Glad you guys are happy about the video! It certainly had a very positive impact on me watching it, had the effect of making me want to visit soon! hehe

[2016-08-20] Rose Bowl, LOS ANGELES, CA
Was just browsing for tickets for fun and I keep getting the "Unable to process your request" thing. I wonder if it means all tickets were sold out already the day the pre-sale started?

Even back when I was against all religion hehe I always have loved churches and still do (now even more). They are really beautiful buildings and have also always had great acoustics! hehe I remember Coldplay recorded some of Viva in churches as well.

Yeah like I said Christianity is embedded in or culture and in our sayings too. So no doubt a person who thinks of God in our culture will inevitably use or be drawn to Christian references. I'm just saying they are not exclusive and that Chris believes in God but not in one denomination (as far as we can tell). He mentioned he is an ALL-heist or something, he believes in all hehe even Zeus lol And it is curious to find how so many of our sayings come from the bible. Also in Midnight song "bleeding from thorns" or when in general we say "bearing a cross or a cross to bear". It's certainly part of us and I don't think it's a bad thing :)

Hymn for the Weekend - video
You know I never took particular notice, but I believe you! :) Though Im not sure its on purpose as it would be in say a Christian band. Biblical references we actually all use everyday without even noticing haha Its so embedded in our culture. Even what is probably the most common and used exclamation of all: "Jesus Christ!" hehe But I think that they make it a point to send a message about love and consequently you can say God as love in their songs.

Coldplayers, Oldplayers, Newplayers 'n all that factious stuff
Great post @Batman, thank you! :) Something I wanna mention just because Im nerdy that way hehe But "And it's proven that we tend to remember bad things more than good things". I actually read that the opposite is the case: that the mind tends to remember what´s good and forget/downplay the bad and often "re-writes" the past to make it look better than it was (a good defence mechanism to be able to cope with negative experiences), which is also the reason many people talk about the "good old days" often forgetting what was bad in the old days hehe Though I think that "you find what you´re looking for" applies here, in the sense that if you are about to listen to a song which says "feat Beyonce" and you hate Beyonce you´re much more likely to pay attention to whatever elements in the song you don't like than those you might like! hehe

Coldplayers, Oldplayers, Newplayers 'n all that factious stuff
The divide is truly justified I agree with you! However the "healthy discussions" you mention are rarely to be found here...Most of it is the same sentences uttered again and again about how for example the new stuff is disappointing and bad. We in fact have and have had here many a discussions about production, sounds, lyrics and whatnot and that is healthy and great and also what we have forums for imo (the other reason being the general sharing of our passion for the band ), but often its been just spiteful comments about the band and their work, with no other intent than to just slamming them. Of course its everyone´s right to post what they want absolutely, but I would not conclude that those kind of posts are healthy or lead to anything constructive in the community.

Coldplay: Connections with the Illuminati? (This thread not to be taken seriously)
The Illuminati thing is only a small niche, been there for a couple of decades at least but its never prominent. You´ll never find these videos or articles in any mainstream newspaper or magazines. CA on the other hand....Heaven save us from it its everywhere hehe I agree on you about the old days...I often find myself missing the past for various reasons (like I don't know...being free of multinationals everywhere? hehe) including that.

Hymn for the Weekend - video
Out of curiosity I found this quote by Chris, from Rolling Stone interview in 2005, which is such a great quote to me! I feel the same way he does about it :) I definitely believe in God. How can you look at anything and not be overwhelmed by the miraculousness of it? Also this is an interesting quote: I went through a weird patch, starting when I was about sixteen to twenty-two, of getting God, religion, superstition, judgement all confused I can´t but agree here too! It´s so easy to confuse all those things. Up til I was 20 or so I used to honestly hate all religion because I was seeing all the bad things they had done in the world. Then later I came to understand that humans will be humans: they can either use something for good or bad, no matter what it is! It was not God´s or the "good books" fault. And yes a lot of "religious traditions" don't come at all from the canon, but simply from superstition/discrimination/judgement. So yeah its funny I seem to have been on a similar journey as Chris :) (nothing new here...they are my homies for a reason haha)
