  1. Some of us are experts in off topic....I even made a thread about it which we use way too rarely LOL
  2. The user you mention I remember as not being shy of well...putting his criticism in very strong terms (using euphemisms here LOL). That is bound to get some people upset. There is a difference between saying "I don't like a song" and "this song is utter rubbish, disgusting,etc...". The latter is way more radical and extreme, hence there is no surprise that it would receive a more extreme reception. Also I think my overall impression is (I may be wrong here) that Oldplayers are very very unlikely to say anything but criticism about anything after Viva, while other Coldplayers tend to have a preference for some songs over others and like the new stuff more but are not having the same attitude towards older albums as Oldplayers do with newer albums. This I think also contributes to some people saying that the negative comments are redundant and repeated. My take is that the bashing started from Oldplayers towards Newplayers (ahh all these monickers LOL) and then received a backlash. It did not start with a bashing of Parachutes or A Rush....all Im saying is that when the words used are extreme and people´s own taste in music is mocked , its not surprising that a backlash will occur eventually as the ones you quoted. I honestly would wish there were no Oldplayers Newplayers thread, or at least if there are that they would just be as a discussion for specific albums, not as a place to bash everything else...Like you said we don't need anything rude of offensive: I wish we cud all feel free to criticise and praise in the same space without offending each other. But this has not been the case yet....
  3. They are as similar as canadians and americans. They both share the same border....but thats where the similarity ends *LOOOL* And yes Im not starting a discussion, also because I tend to give right to both one side and the other anyway! haha I believe science is absolutely correct in both its method and just all the wonderful things they discover, but I also in my experience have found spirituality to be just as funded, but they are truly on completely different premises. I do hope and believe they will get closer together in the future though...we have seen some signs of this in quantum physics/superstring theory, but I´ll stop here. My geekiness is shining through LOL
  4. Yes EMI being owned now by a multi corporation I can understand why he would say that...I have a business myself and if I had shareholders it would be of a different kind that those in multinationals hehe So I kinda see what he means here: I think he was condemning the shareholders who put profit above anything else (possibly creative output of the label)
  5. I think I found the source of this! (Im like that...when something bugs me I need to straighten it out LOL) It was a post by another member which was close to one of your posts and it was mentioned the "I believe in n higher power by the way", so now I can be at peace again haha I apologise for the misunderstanding :)
  6. Some people might get miffed about spirituality and religion being put as the same hehe ( a bit like confusing Canadians with Americans lol). Believing in a higher power or a life that has meaning does not mean you automatically subscribe to the religious package of any denomination :) Besides Chris tells you explicitly what he believes in and encourages people to believe in, in "up and up": love :) hehe And you know why I think religion/spirituality can never really be discussed in a constructive manner with an atheist? Because in my experience it's a feeling , a feeling about something, it's not originating in the mind. Like love in a way :) and I speak as both a science-freak and physics aficionado/ex student and as a spiritual person hehe
  7. I know you mentioned a higher power but I don't remember the full sentence. Now it bugs me lol I was referring to an older post of yours, not sure if it was even another thread. A shareholder in Tidal you mean? Well there is a difference between a shareholder of a small company and the corporate sharks a la Goldman and Sachs he was probably referring to lol just guessing. I've not read his quote about it
  8. Uhh? That's not what I set it to. For some reason it calculates more days in than those I select then . (Maybe another time zone?) Thanks for pointing out. I'm on the phone but I'll see what I can do when I'm on my Mac again.
  9. Not to rain on anyone's parade here hehe but I don't think that quote means "sent by a man in the sky" :) Chris has often talked about how he gets his songs "from the universe". It's I think his ways of expressing what comes intuitively to him from "a power above/ a universal place or consciousness". Again I believe he speaks in general terms. I've found no reason so far to believe he is a Christian specifically.
  10. I still think it's not correct to call Coldplay religious :) or Chris at least (dunno the others). I think he definitely believes in something but has not defined what that something is :) He said as much in his famous "Zeus" quote hehe I may recall incorrectly but you said you believe in a higher power? (Apologies if I recall incorrectly !) Well that's just another name for God. One can believe in God without believing any of the canonic religions. Many do.

Everyone who loves mystery loves Dame Christie :) she's is my favorite followed by Arthur Conan Doyle. :) The PC games are not boring and some have a different ending so as to surprise the player :) Now I'm a giant adventure game player and the Christie games are not the absolute best games however they are really good and anyone who'd want to immerse in that atmosphere and try to be Poirot for a few days would enjoy them :) I don't know if you've ever played adventure games but they are filled with riddles hehe you'd like them I think! Yes I don't know which books I've read either haha mostly cuz I've been reading her since j was a teen. Thankfully like you say you do forget after a while all those plots! :) I used to like miss marple best cuz her mysteries are more "cozy" but in recent 10 years or so I've come to love Poirot just as much. He's brilliant :) Did not like the latest "Christie imitation" book btw. Read only a few pages and then left it.
  12. See you soon is playing in my head
  13. Wow hehe is Jon Hopkins doing any concerts? Sounds like you'd enjoy those a deal more! LOL But yeah Midnight is such an anomalous song for Coldplay. I would not mind more along that vein :)
  14. Minus 5-6 songs? Then you're a silver player loool
  15. ALL songs? And best music ever? Do they exist or is this a theoretic group? Loool
  16. Jedi Leo replied to Rain's topic in The Lounge
Oh no! A fellow Christie fan? Yay!!! I'm a giant fan! I read tons of her books but not all yet! ABC is one of the few on my to buy/to read list I think, not sure. I've not kept a track of what I read so I may read the same book twice lol About the game , someone like you who's obviously drawn to and good at riddles might enjoy the Agatha Christie adventure games. Check them out if you get the chance. I can provide links if you want :) And I wish we lived closer to each other : I have a murder on the orient express board game I've yet to play! :)
  17. @gai is working on the latter :) the poll about the date is due to close soon :)
  18. Everyone should feel safe but everyone should also be respectful. Writing that above I was more thinking of several posts from people who were nearly terrified to say they liked "x marks the spot". People who perhaps changed their mind about it. Now correct me if I'm wrong but I'm don't remember you having been attacked for not liking something? Like I said I may be wrong. I don't see you as a basher at all btw. I remember your posts as respectful. Going purely by memory I find that most vitriol has come from people not liking the new stuff and then after quite some time of hearing the bashing some people responded cuz they got tired of it. My hope would be that we can all exchange comments without being disrespectful of what others love.
  19. Chris was raised a Christian (as most of us) but he's non denominational as far as I know. He believes in God but as an higher power not as a specific definition in any religion. That's what I gather from his quotes and songs. God is love hence love is God. For me they are certainly interchangeable :) Love is not the only great thing in life but I surely think it's ultimately the best and I find its in every thing :) omnipresent , omnipotent (even Harry Potter knows that looool) good God adjectives hehe
  20. Ah yes I remember your living arrangements. Well book the TV time for you that day! :) tell your roommate to meet up with her boyfriend and go out hehe :p
  21. Loool autocorrect is both your best friend and your worst enemy haha And I may have understood your Spanish. I speak Italian, some elements tend to be similar :)
  22. Haha well I was more thinking that new players might be the best ones to relate to my post. I was not afraid of being attacked. However I'd like to add I would like this all forum to be safe! So people can be respectful to each other. Whatever criticism one has can be voiced with respect imo. And yes I can't imagine Chris being able to play this now and mean it lol I have a few similar songs in my catalogue from my teen years I can't sing anymore , only for nostalgia sake hehe
  23. Yes they were and it all went south just shortly after with X&Y which really showed how dis functional the band had become (you can't really hear it cuz the music is still great imo but u can tell the album is bloated). Thank god for Viva I'm sure they thank Brian end every day haha
  24. Hope you meet some coldplayers at the gigs btw. Meet ups are often arranged! :)
  25. You know.....us? :) I'm sure there will be a watching party in the SB thread :))
