  1. I´ve never been a fan of dissonant chord progressions, though I must say they did it very well cuz I do like all their earlier songs despite of the dissonant style hehe I think the warm atmosphere you refer to is in large part due to the organic sound of real instruments. To my ears it always sounds warm and full, while synths sound cold and distant. Same reason why I think vinyl records sound better than CDs hehe But to me the warm tone is just a technical thing at the end of the day. The melody and feel of a song is more important to me than the way its played or arranged, but yeah different styles will give different impressions.
  2. This got me curious and I checked it out. Apparently Rumi was born in present day Afghanistan. Perhaps he did not say persian so as not to be confused with present day Iran?
  3. Thats a good attitude :) I could talk about this for ages...I´ve been deeply involved in social sciences and politics during my school years haha Suffice it to say I also think its important we in the western rich countries behave with awareness as consumers, supporting companies who dont take advantage of poorer countries. That contributes a lot to the problem Im afraid. And whats that about not raising your own voice? Go listen to "Birds", you! *LOL*
  4. Lol yeah nothing wrong with long posts haha Apart from the tone and lyrics in a way I find the two albums are too different to be compared to my ears anyway. Though I´ll tell you I still dont think I can listen to Parachutes now from beginning to end. Its probably the only Coldplay album I cant do that, simply because Im never in that mood *lol* But I do agree it contains some great tracks...and speaking of Spies, its the first Coldplay song I heard and I still think its fantastic! Also I notice that they kinda use different chord progressions in Parachutes overall, unusual and dissonant, which gives it its own unique tone imo. Some of these chord progressions I can still hear in some songs on AROBTTH, but then they kinda disappear from X&Y onwards, which is when the songs have more of a "easy on the ear" flow with less dissonant chord progressions, I guess you can call them more catchy perhaps. They always had catchy songs all the way from Yellow, but from X&Y they pretty much make each song a "catchy" song and I think it still continues to this day.
  5. Im all for patriotism honestly. Nothing wrong with loving one´s own country as long as there is full respect for all other countries :) Patriotism is also a sign of cultural adhesion, which I think is beneficial to a country :) Personally Im very happy to be danish, it fits me as a society and as a culture very well in the present times. But I also seem to resonate with a lot of other different countries and cultures too on different levels. Though if I had to be perfectly honest I feel truly like a citizen of the stars haha (maybe it´s the Superman in me speaking :P)
  6. Migration is a huge problemt these days pretty much everywhere Im afraid :/ I always said and thought that we ought to pay attention and help, not hinder, the countries in the rest of the world to create a better society or else we would also find ourselves sharing in their problems. And I guess that time has come. After all what impacts one impacts the other eventually as we all live on the same planet. Im glad you could stay in your country and I hope things get better for you guys.
  7. I love GS hehe And I think it has similarities to Parachutes in tone and even lyrics, though there are prominent differences too in the arrangements and instrumentation, which is probably why you dont like it perhaps? :) I honestly though think songs like O (Fly on) would unite old and newplayers alike hehe It´s just a gorgeous track. (or even Midnight)
  8. I´ll honestly go ahead and say there surely is not one single person on this thread (or even like in general!) who would answer NO to this question :)
  9. Hmmm I guess native americans have the first claim at that, not you guys :P Spanish were immigrants too to the Americas, just like other europeans. If we all had to look back at who owned what when...oh dear the headache LOL Denmark and Norway would still be one kingdom hehe
  10. I found a lot of the stereotypes to be true, but I dont know why most people associate stereotypes with something negative cuz in my opinion they are not! I mean Im for example a stereotypical male in so many ways haha but I dont see it as a negative thing, just means I have traits which are common to a lot of other guys. And trust me the niceness I find here is way above and beyond what I found anywhere in Europe! hehe Thats not to say we europeans are not nice cuz we are, but here I just find its taken to a new level. Either that or I meet a whole lot of cheerful people in the States LOL I had the same experience in Boston and New York, though I must say here in Cali they are even extra nice. :) And dont get me started on the amazing american customer service....wow compared to europe you guys are champions *lol*
  11. Yes :) Though Cali has been american for over 150 years now, so I think the prominent presence of Mexicans now is due to people coming here to find a work or have a better life rather than much to do with history. Personally speaking I would not migrate anywhere from my home country unless I was forced to..I remember my great great grandparents from my mum´s side emigrated from Italy to the USA because they were basically starving back in their country and they could not wait to get back home. So yeah Im sure there are some people who are gonna feel great in their new country, but also a lot who are and will remain homesick :/
  12. ^^ Im definitely not joking in that there are a lot of Mexicans here hehe I assume most immigrate because they cant find a work in their own country, but in order to remain here and all they must also like the US I assume. So yeah I dont know , just an observation :) You surely know more about it than I do :) As for the image we have of the USA on the internet or from the movies I´d say its quite accurate in some aspects (the mailboxes with red flags haha). What surprised me was just how friendly and down to earth people are and just overall nice, pretty much everyone I talked to.
  13. They are definitely not on A Head Full of Dreams the track, if they are I cant hear them hehe I assumed the tweet was referring to Up&Up, as thats the song we know feature all the aforementioned people. Perhaps the tweet is to be read as: "Coldplay shot a video for a A Head Full Of Dreams track" hehe :)
  14. I think there is a bit of truth in all stereotypes hehe I dont find the US to be the exception :) However I find a lot of what people think in other countries about the USA is just not really what I find here, so imo its definitely worth visiting ! :)
  15. You should. Just for the record Im technically half american hehe My dad is from NY. I am truly fascinated by the culture and the history. I did my final paper in school this year about american history (mostly the colonial stuff). Im both fascinated by the origin of the country, how it was formed and also by the spirit of its founding fathers, which to me seems to be quite still present in americans today in so many ways:) So yeah its absolutely a compliment! :D Ah yes neighbouring countries and their relations hehe However in SoCal it seems to me Mexicans absolutely love the USA as there are a lot of you around here *lol*
  16. Oh? Do tell me which movie you have in mind, I´ll tell you if its the right one :)
  17. Haha its good to be proud and happy of one´s own country :) Patriotism might not be fashionable these days what with all the globalisation and all but Im all for it. There are a few places I´d like to visit in south america, all the old ancient ruins mostly. And yes Im sure a desert would be a wonderful experience as well.
  18. Not bad :) But I dont think she waited for the panic room in that movie hehe But its the right track in the sense that its about a character she played in a movie...who waited anxiously for...something :)
  19. England is lovely. I travelled there in 2009 and Ireland too and I lived in London for about two years. I loved both the country and the capital :) And yes Europe is the cradle of western civilisation history! hehe whats not to love :) Im very proud to be european :) I did love New York and Boston and Im liking Cali a lot, but I think a lot has to do with the cool stores and the nice people! haha Oh and lets not forget the nice weather :) I find the USA fascinating as a culture and a young country, but I dont honestly have a particular desire to travel here. I guess life just happened to send me to NY and LA rather than I actively sought to come here. I´ve travelled quite a lot already but I look forward to travelling more, though no particular destination. p.s. If you come to Europe I highly recommend a visit to Norway to see the Northern Lights. They are an unforgettable experience!
  20. Hmm not a bad guess at all, but no :) I´d say focus more on Jodie Foster roles than Jodie Foster the person :)
  21. Another place I have little interest in visiting is Africa for example, even though it just looks amazing! I actually believe there is an aspect to it that has to do with an innate affinity perhaps...Like I prefer places by the sea and islands to inland and I definitely tend to prefer temperate/colder climates to hot places. And there are places whose history I feel a resonance with (hmm past lives perhaps? hehe) while others I dont. What place would you most like and least like to visit? :)
  22. This thread does something to my brain I cant explain...it causes an instant headache LOL Like my neurons are going "wtf is that?" followed by increasing short-circuits hehe
