Agreed, but then again, album versions of most songs > single edits of most songs. Also, I probably prefer at least half of the album to Neat Little Rows. It's a good song, but it also feels like Elbow trying to squeeze in a single-ready song that doesn't stray too far from their style but also conflicts with the beauty of the rest of the album. So I've had a few days for the album to sink in, and it seems like one of those albums that I'm going to go back to when I need some lovely ambiance that I can hum to when I'm working or something like that (most Elbow albums are like that for me, except maybe TSSK, which was grander in terms of sound).

Wow, first listen really went by in a flash, but I guess that beats the dragged-on nature of FIOE (which I still don't think is a BAD album, but features filler). I wasn't paying enough attention to know that "Life is Simple in the Moonlight" was the final track so I was caught a bit off-guard when my iTunes went to the next artist. Future listens will require further attention, but after one pass through, it seemed like for every track that felt like traditional Strokes, there was another track that was more risky. Probably a good route to take after 5 years of absence.

Downloaded earlier but had to run out unexpectedly for about an hour. Back now and ready to dive in for the first time. Let's do this. (Also, SNL is historically poor for artists being able to show off their best talent. Most of the time, it's just for mainstream exposure.)
  7. "Wasted Hours" is the only one I'd willingly cut. While I suppose I could also drop "Sprawl I" and maybe even "The Suburbs (Continued)", they're pretty brief intro and outro pieces respectively and don't do much harm in the overall picture.
  8. Welcome back, Natt! Nothing too exciting has been going on here or in the Muse world, but still, I can't last 7 hours without Internet. :laugh3:
  9. That's basically how we felt. After getting 30 seconds of Dead Star, I demand the remaining 3 minutes from Muse. One of the nastiest teases ever. (though I heard that at one show, they played the Bliss intro and then they promptly started playing Feeling Good instead )
  10. Final stretch coming up! I was going to use my nice deed of the day to open the door for a cute girl, but I think I'll use it to vote for your site instead.
  11. I'm so glad I don't have to be a fangirl. That said, I'd probably freak out a little at first too. I'm feeling nostalgic for past gigs today: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezEgLg20Uuo]YouTube - Complete Outro (All 10 riffs from the pit) - MUSE Stockholm Syndrome 2010-9-26 Staples Center LA[/ame] If you haven't seen it before, do yourself a favor and watch the whole thing. If you're in a rush, just skip to 6:04 and watch the rest later. :awesome: As awesome as Bliss and RBS were, this was clearly the best thing to come out of that gig.
  12. Unnatural Selection was the song off The Resistance that translated best live. Some like Undisclosed Desires and Guiding Light were just bores when performed, but US never failed to bring the house down. Still think it's both super odd and super unfortunate you didn't get it.
  13. I prefer at least half of the rest of Funeral to "Wake Up", but that's probably saying more about Funeral's stellar quality more than anything, because "Wake Up" is still pretty amazing.
  14. More Bells are good. The fact that only two of those songs are not currently available elsewhere probably indicates that they were just previously scrapped instead of being more recent, so it doesn't really shed much light on whether the band will continue.

Okay, "Open Arms" is absolutely amazing. I know some people were wondering whether this was going to build off The Seldom Seen Kid or go back to the band's roots of Asleep in the Back, and the answer is...neither really. If I had to draw the closest comparison, I'd actually go with Cast of Thousands, but come on, this is its own album. It's less ambitious than TSSK in terms of how grand it feels, but most of the tracks are quite beautiful. Like I said earlier, even though NLR is a very fun and accessible single, the rest of the album is very serene. I'm going to be super upset if there's a major schedule conflict the day Elbow plays Coachella. They're playing the Saturday, and nearly every band I want to see is on the Saturday.
  19. So yeah, my SD card corrupted and died yesterday, and that contained all of my Muse pictures. Sure, I have almost all of them backed up on my laptop, but those have gone through heavy editing, and there's a certain charm about those original pictures and they are now gone forever. Sad times. On another note, looks like those Russia and Ukraine rumors were true. I think they'll bring back the towers for those, especially since they're arenas and this is basically an "extension" of the Resistance tour.
  20. Oh, don't get me wrong, Postcards is awesome. But everybody is expecting singing and dancing, so it'd be the ultimate move in hilarious disappointment.
  21. Already congratulated you in WoM, so I'll use the Coldplay forum for egging you on about the cover, as well as inquiring what lies in store if you actually win this whole thing. I'm excited for this cover. *is fully expecting to be duped with cover of something like Postcards From Far Away, because Briggins would totally pull a stunt like that*
  22. Congratulations, man. :D One final push!

Yeah, I didn't even know the prior version was a radio edit, but it cuts out two whole minutes. Needless to say, the album version is most certainly the version to listen to. Off to class now... :)
  24. Corkus replied to SuchARush's topic in The World Of Music
I was initially going to wait until tonight once I was done with class to download it, but I found some brief down time and listened to the first 7 tracks. Sadly, I have class now and then projects through the late evening, so the rest will have to hold off for a bit, but I will say that "Neat Little Rows" is a very deceptive lead single in terms of indicating how the rest of the album feels. Let it also be known that the radio edit of "Neat Little Rows" that we've been hearing for quite a while cuts out a large (and pretty cool) part of the album track.
  25. Haha, silly Matt. I was at a Biffy Clyro show last night and there were LOTS of Muse fans there, some even with Muse shirts.
