  1. When people say that Nirvana was the biggest band of the 90s, it always feels like revisionist history to me. I love Nirvana, they are a great band, and they were huge in the 90s. But I don't remember a bigger band than Pearl Jam. I remember Smells Like Teen Spirit kicking the whole thing off, but Pearl Jam was the more popular of the two. I remember your hard core music fans loving Nirvana, but it was Pearl Jam vis-a-vis Ten that took over the mainstream. It was Eddie Vedder that was on the cover of Time magazine. Pearl Jam, by choice, turned their backs on the mainstream after Vitology, but I think people who lived through that era forget the overwhelming popularity of the band. Either that, or they were not even born or listening to alt-rock music in the 90s.
  2. I'll write something proper when I get home. The gloaming09, I asked Colin your questions. I asked him if he liked it (it being thom's show). He responded, "yeah, yeah". I asked him if lotus flower was going to be a radiohead song per thom's introduction. He said he didn't know. What can I say, both the greenwood brothers are a couple of wet blankets. I maybe got 5 words total, but at least we know he's not recording with radiohead in la right now and the new stuff (i.e. Lotus flower) is in such it's infancy that the rest of the band is not aware of what will be recorded.
  3. Erasers done. Highlights harrowdown hill and cymbal rush.
  4. Got a ticket. 6th row, center. 2 rows in front of Colin.
  5. They stay at the same hotel everytime they are in Los angeles. I've also met them all after a show. Like I said, I am a collector geek. Some inside knowledge but not all. I was able to get ok computer completely signed before and after the show. Just a matter of sinking in the time and getting lucky. I sunk most of today into trying to get my new records signed and I didn't get jack. So it's hit and miss.
  6. I have met everyone in Radiohead several times. I collect music memorabilia, so I was here trying to get thom to sign the new feeling pulled apart by horses record. Never saw thom. Oh well...can't win everytime. Heading down to the Orpheum to check it out. Don't have a ticket, but maybe I will get lucky. Edit: Would have loved to ask him a laundry list of questions, but he was not super friendly and kind of in a rush. I had to get the recording question in, though.
  7. Just got a brief word in with Colin. He said he is not here recording, so maybe he's just here on holiday and checking out the show tonight. Maybe he will jump on stage tonight. Who knows? I just provide the updates as I get them.
  8. In "you heard it here first" news, I am hanging out in Los Angeles trying to say hello to Thom and who do I see...Colin Greenwood. He just got out of a car with a bass straped to his back. What the hell is going on out here?
  9. Yes, i've said it a million times - the Killers are a great live band. Glad you had a good time.
  10. ^ Yeah, AIC gets lost in the mix sometimes, but they wrote some kickass songs. The combined vocals of Layne and Jerry are hard to beat.

Haha. I don't have anything to add other than the fact that I am not surprised that whoever started this thread wrote the title as they did. The word selection would be what I would expect from an Eminem fan. That's all...L8R.
  12. Alright, so I am back from the show at the Echoplex last night. First off, I will say that you will probably find a lot of good videos and pictures online as most people in the crowd spent the entire show with their cameras and recorders high in the air taking pictures and videos. This is good for posterity, but kind of sucked for watching the show, as the stage was not really elevated that much. Since you already know the setlist, and have seen some of the video, I will just give you some of my impressions. First, seeing the Eraser played live makes me wish that the studio version had less of an "electronic" and processed sound. Every single song from that album works well in a live setting, and it sounded far more organic and fresh than on the actual studio album. Although the Echoplex is a small venue, everyone was packed so tightly toward the front of the stage that it became uncomfortable. After 3 or 4 songs up close, I decided to drift towards the back of the room. This turned out to be a good decision, as I located myself right next to a couple of speakers. It was here that I just dropped my head, closed my eyes, and listened. I picked my head up on occasion to see what was happening on stage, but I spent most of my time just in a trance. It is almost like it was too difficult to watch what was happening on stage and really appreciate the music. It was like sensory overload. The highlight of the show for me was Harrowdown Hill. It is my favorite song from the Eraser, and I don't think I need to explain why it was so good - just look at the video above. Need I say more? The best new song, for me, was Lotus Flower. The vocals in that song are amazing. All in all, it was an amazing night. I wish it was longer, but I am so thankful to get what I did.
  13. Groovin to it Right now. The eraser should have been a live album.
  14. Really??? Where did you hear that? I am going to the show, so I am really curious.
  15. I am going to the show at the echoplex tonight. I will give you an update and review.

Just got back from an in-store with AFI. The new album is good. I still need to listen to it more because they changed their sound again.
  17. That's subjective.
  18. That's the crazy thing about PJ. Their setlists are drastically different every night. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to be able to play so many different songs. It makes those bands that go with a set 20-25 songs per tour seem like a bunch of chumps.
  19. it's because they were the frontmen of the two biggest bands of the 90s (save Radiohead), and the faces of Grunge rock. There will be comparisons even if there are no other similarities besides those just mentioned.

:) Yeah, that song is OK. Oddly, I like just about every other song on the album better than Miss Murder. For some reason that song blew up. Go figure...or maybe it's just me. It's all about The Interview, Summer Shudder, and Love Like Winter.
  21. I use to like Collective Soul. Some really good songs. I was always a fan of Precious Declaration. That's some pretty crunchy guitars.

Man, had to dig this up from 2004. New album coming out this week, and I am pretty excited. Their last two albums were fantastic IMO.
  23. I like Ryan Adams. "It Takes Two" is on almost every single mixed CD I make. Great songwriter.
  24. ^ yeah, he didn't get the best setlist, but PJ is always amazing live. They are in town for 4 shows next week, and I have to make it to at least one. Long live Eddie!
