  1. First off, I don't think the songs are rightfully Paul McCartney's. He was in a song writing partnership with John Lennon, and if there were any rights to be left behind, they should also go to the estate of John Lennon. Second, my understanding is that Paul McCartney had the opportunity to buy the songs but was outbid by Michael Jackson. The story is very complex, but I have been led to believe that Paul could not convince Yoko to go into a partnership to purchase the catalogue. What can you do about being outbid? Finally, this is just for the publishing rights. Paul still gets a nice, fat check for his song writing royalties.
  2. I like me some Billy Joel. Whenever I am at a bar, I always put 'Piano Man' on the jukebox.
  3. Punk rock doesn't need to be complex. It's more about attitude than anything else. And pop-punk is what it is. I love it when I am working out, getting ready to go out for the night, or just want to listen to something fun. I have always loved Green Day, and they are fantastic live. If people like stuff that is more musically challenging, it is certainly out there. I get tired of Green Day, too. But I always seem to come back. Can't speak on the latest album because, although I have it, I have not fully listened. By the way, early Green Day (i.e. Kerplunk, Dookie) is kick ass.
  4. I always have a hard time listening to music without video on YouTube. If its on YouTube, something is supposed to move. I am probably sharing a plight that only applies to me.
  5. I love Bruce, too. But we are in the vast majority around here. It's mostly a younger crowd (even though I see you are 18) and most people don't listen to much Bruce. He does put on an amazing concert.
  6. I have actually bought e-tickets from people I don't know. I only do it when the price is really low, and I am not out of much money if it doesn't work. But you are right, first person in the venue wins, so it becomes nervous time until you get inside.
  7. Absolutely! You have not lived until you have had the joy of dealing with TicketMaster. The biggest profiteering racket in the history of mankind, IMO. That's why I scalp tickets so much. I will pay face value, but I don't want to give $20 in fees to those criminals.
  8. I have a ticket stub collection, too. And the e-ticket thing bothers me. Whenever I go that route, I pick one up off the floor for my proper collection. You know what always makes me laugh is that there is a fee for e-tickets, however, not a fee if you leave the tickets at will call. Why do they charge me when I am using my own ink and paper? It blows my mind. I like the old fashion way. Plus, I buy a lot of tickets off scalpers, and I never trust e-tickets.
  9. ^ :laugh3: It's good for you. You need to step outside your comfort zone. Besides, my main goal is to drive people to dark, scary places. My mission is complete now that I have been properly vilified.
  10. That's fair, too. It's just too much. And it seems like it will never stop growing.
  11. I have zero problem with that. I am not asking you to suspend conversation. Just spare the rest of us. I am looking into the 'Ignore Thread' function. That should solve the problem for me.
  12. At least that's a fair post.
  13. Look, I would be happy if the number of posts were proportionate to their relative importance in music, which is pretty much nil. It's just my luck that the 4 or 5 fans that they have accumulated happen to reside on this message board.
  14. Please, they may be popular in a handful of Scandinavian countries. Outside that region, you would be hard pressed to find many people who care about them. I follow music closely, and they would not even be on my radar if I was not bludgeoned to death by posts on this message board. I know I will be skipping them when they open for NIN in Los Angeles. Bottom Line: There is nothing I can do to stop you from starting multiple threads. I just don't understand why I have to skip over 5 threads dedicated to some variation of the same band before I can get to something I care about. At this rate, you are going to start, and continually bump, appreciation threads dedicated to their damn pets.
  15. At least Thom Yorke is a legitimate, major musician. Mew is an opening act, and yet, you act like they are big stars. Why do I need to trip over 5 threads on this band ever time I come to WOM?
  16. The extent of my caring is limited to the fact that I am tired of seeing multiple threads on this band. Why can't you simply place your comments within the confines of the Mew thread? Why does every member need an appreciation/tribute thread?
  17. I don't think U2 are under or overrated. They pretty much get the attention they deserve. But Pop certainly is an underrated album. Usually only hardcore U2 fans appreciate it. I love it, too.
  18. ^ I agree. I live in Los Angeles and went to his first Galaxy game. It was exciting for a moment. I don't have a problem with the fact that he wants to play more competitive football, but he should have known that before he signed the contract. To come here, play a few games, and then ask to play for another team is not going to endear him to any local fans. What does he expect?
  19. Do your best to attend. Not only is he a living legend, but he is one of the all time great live performers. A must see in my opinion.
  20. Oh shoot! Nice review. I forgot to respond because the thread was no longer on the first page. A little late, but glad you had a good time.
  21. Unknown Caller sounds pretty good. To those who have seen them live, is the concert improving your opinion of the new album or is it staying the same? Or I guess it could make you dislike the album more, but I doubt that is the case.
  22. I think the Fray put out some pretty damn catchy music.
  23. ^ I like a duplicate thread.
  24. :laugh3: How many times have we had this discussion only to solve nothing. It's all personal preference. I, too, prefer the 80s and 90s, but that's just my opinion. I know I'm never going to convince those who disagree, so what is the point?
