  1. Love DMB. I missed their concert when they were here in Los Angeles a few weeks back. Their tickets are always so hard for me to get. That band is a bunch of touring fools :) They must be worth a fortune by now.
  2. I am sure he is recording. I know he was a surprise DJ at the Roosevelt Hotel here is Los Angeles during this trip. Musicians come in and out of LA all the time, and Radiohead have recorded in LA several times.
  3. ^ Yeah, that is a decent point. But I didn't think the self titled album was all that good. So, despite its radio friendliness, the songs were not all that memorable, IMO. But you make a very valid point, and it was one that was echoed by many critics. I think the new song happens to be pretty damn good, though. It kind of reverts back to a post-Vitology feeling during the song's bridge. Not that it's bad, it's just a point in the song where it's not very catchy. The rest of the song, however, is catchy as hell.
  4. I love Rage. Tom Morello is a bad ass guitar player, that is for sure.
  5. ^ Yeah, I like it, too. But, in my experience, Pearl Jam fans are matched only by Radiohead fans in terms of their snobbery. If you don't like a particular song, it is your fault and you just don't get it. Sometimes, the song flat out sucks, but the freaks always give them a pass. I love most everything Pearl Jam has ever done but, of course, some things are better than others. I have always been surprised by the fact that, with the exception of the first three albums, Pearl Jam has clearly stayed away from the radio friendly sound. They can be so good at it when they want to be. Plus, with Eddie being such a big fan of the Who, I always thought they would write catchy songs that rock in a somewhat similar vein.
  6. New PJ video, and it's actually pretty...gulp...fun. What the hell has gotten into these guys? I wish they would have done this a long time ago, but all the dire hard PJ freaks are going to say it's too pop. Whatever... [ame= ] [/ame]
  7. Brandon is kick ass. One of the best in the biz right now.
  8. ^ Los Angeles
  9. Going this Saturday. I am pretty excited.
  10. Could someone please give me a brief update on what's going on with the latest rumors? I refuse to go onto the cult website that is "atease."
  11. Probably Bad, A Sort of Homecoming, or Ultraviolet. Who knows...difficult question. U2 is my favorite band.
  12. I've been listening to the latest from KOL and Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs. And for some reason, the Greatest Hits of Heart...go figure.
  13. Wow. For those of us who love tons of bands, this is a tough one. But if it came down to it, I would either pick Bono or Eddie Vedder.
  14. Not my first or second favorite band, but they are pretty damn good!
  15. I listened to Pearl Jam through out high school. Such an important band for me. I do like the Fixer, and it reminds me that they can write mainstream radio songs if they want. Hell, several bands have made a career simply by smoothing out PJ's sound to make it more accessible. And Eddie's voice is an absolute gem. I am not saying he is the greatest singer of all time, but no one makes me "feel" vocals like Eddie. So much emotion and passion in his signing.

I think you are both right. I love the flashy intros when they are done right. They are fantastic. But RHCP come out with such energy that they don't really need a light show. It's apples and oranges, so either approach can work so long as you get the crowd amped from the beginning of the show.
  17. Sounds pretty good to me! I am pumped that Dave is back on drums.
  18. i fear that the death of the LP is near. Full length albums are a lot of work, and people are not buying them, so what is the point? At least that is the perspective that I am assuming a lot of artist will take. My hope is that they would continue making full length albums, however, cut down on the number of tracks. I don't like listening to albums that have 14 songs, anyhow. Cut the length down to 7-9 strong, cohesive songs. Everything else you are working on that does not fit into the context of the album could then be released as an EP. That's what I would like to see.
  19. Well, you have to place the comparison in the context of the entire statement. I don't think AFI, INXS, or Incubus would be considered one of the greatest bands of all time, however, if I were to go on a road trip, those would be 3 bands that I would have in my CD player. I have argued many times that there is not a direct correlation between complex music and quality music. Sometimes, simple does the trick. Besides, I think it is ok for music to just be fun. Also, I think the crunchy radio-friendly guitar sound is similar to later AFI (especially decemberunderground). And Brandon Boyd has always reminded me of Michael Hutchence. They just seem to have a comparable vibe, and both have very clean, clear vocals.

I like a good intro, as well. U2 always have fantastic introductions. I really like their intro on the Vertigo tour with the Arcade Fire's 'Wake Up' playing in the background. U2 always put on such an amazing stage show that it is hard to tell whether I am impressed with the bands introduction or just seeing the stage in operation for the first time. Every time I see Coldplay, I am always reminded of how impressive their intos are. On both the Twisted Logic and Viva tour I thought the intro was great. I also think Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, and The Killers bring great energy to the beginning a show.
  23. I really liked the last album, but I also tend to be a fan of pop-rock. I think songs like Manhattan, Notion, and especially Cold Desert are kick ass. I am seeing them live towards the end of the month. I have not seen them since they opened for U2. They have come along way since then.
  24. ^ All Incubus music, including Light Grenades, is pretty good. It is great music to turn up loud while driving and sing along with the chorus. It kind of reminds me of a cross between AFI and INXS in that sense. It just rocks. Nothing too heavy in terms of depth, but definitely not disposable music. I don't know, I just like it. They are also fantastic live. I have seen them 6 times.
  25. ^ Probably Morning View or Make Yourself, although some of their best stuff is on Light Grenades and A Crow Left of the Murder (which is my least favorite album). Morning View and Make Yourself just happen to be better for the whole length of the album. Incubus are really, really easy to get into. Their music is very accessible, and it shouldn't take more than one or two listens to decide if you want to continue. I don't have the first 2 albums, so I can not comment on them.
