coldplay portugal
Hey there, Portuguese CP fans. I was wondering if you guys could clear something up for me. Whenever people talk about traveling to Europe, they almost always mention such cities as London, Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, Munich, Amsterdam, Rome, and Milan. They never mention Lisbon. Isn't Lisbon a major European tourist attraction?

How would you feel if Avril Lavigne someday becomes as big as Madonna or U2?
First of all, I'm a guy.:D Second of all, I was just asking whether or not you guys would disrespect anyone who listens to Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, etc. Because Lord knows tons of people have.:\ People would tell me that I have bad taste in music, that I shouldn't be listening to that crap, or the like. I didn't ignore your opinions, Reilly. Your points are really sound. The others' "points" are what I have a problem with. They're not even points. They're just potshots and put-downs. And those aren't what I'm looking for in this discussion.

There's such a thing as Wikileaks now? I thought the only thing with "Wiki" in its name is Wikipedia.

Canada, eh?!
Did anyone here go to the Coldplay show at Toronto's Rogers Centre in the summer of last year? For the concert, was Rogers Centre in its baseball configuration or its football configuration? I know it's a stupid question, but I was just curious.:embarrassed: When I saw U2 at Rogers Centre last year, the stadium was oddly its baseball configuration.:inquisitive:

Hey everyone. I'm thinking about finally making that trip to Paris. Do French people speak and understand English? When I visited Italy last month, almost no one spoke English.

How would you feel if Avril Lavigne someday becomes as big as Madonna or U2?
I have a question for all of you. Would you guys condemn and how outright disrespect toward people like me for listening to Avril Lavigne or any other female artist? Why or why not?

How would you feel if Avril Lavigne someday becomes as big as Madonna or U2?
Listen, guys. I came up with this thread because artists like Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears became quite successful years after their teen idol days. And they've come a long way since 1999. So I was thinking how people would react if the same thing happened to Avril. All I wanted was a refined, respectful discussion among adults here. Seriously- How is that too much to ask of you guys?

How would you feel if Avril Lavigne someday becomes as big as Madonna or U2?
On the contrary- She's had a handful of hit singles since 2002. She released I'm With You, Don't Tell Me, My Happy Ending, Nobody's Home, Keep Holding On, When You're Gone, and (regrettably) Girlfriend. Maybe those singles didn't chart as high as Complicated or Sk8er Boi, but they did find themselves on mainstream radio. Plus, she's coming out with her fourth album this March. Maybe you guys weren't paying attention?:p:shrug: The last time I checked, Avril wasn't on the Disney Channel.:smug: The main idea of this tread was to ask what if she eventually moves beyond writing those types of songs. She's already done that with her sophomore album. Good point. Thank you for the positive response. I came up with this thread after seeing the whole buzz about Britney's comeback last year. I was wondering how people would react if Avril achieved a similar level of commercial success. I don't see what is so unsettling about this topic.:blank: (I apologize for the delay in my response.)

How would you feel if Avril Lavigne someday becomes as big as Madonna or U2?
Hey there, fellow CP fans. I know there are tons of people who hate Avril Lavigne. But consider pop music artists like Justin Timberlake. Singers like Timberlake were widely disrespected early in their careers, but then gained a good amount of acceptance from the populace. So... How would you feel if Avril Lavigne legitimately becomes as popular and well-respected as Madonna or U2? Before anyone starts flaming me, there are several plausible arguments that I would like to express. Hypothetically speaking, let’s say- - She leaves behind the ‘punk princess’ image, and entirely re-invents her style - She advances her music and demonstrates artistic growth - She secures her credibility and establishes her authenticity - She crafts some unique, high-caliber music that withstands time - She stops writing cookie-cutter girly songs about boys, and starts recording depth-filled songs that contain vastly profound lyrics - She ditches the trendy MTV crowd, and reaches out to a more general, adult audience of discerning listeners - She sets herself apart from all the other female pop artists- i.e. Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Ke$ha, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, P!nk, Shakira, Ashlee Simpson, Hilary Duff, and Lindsay Lohan Given these supposed conditions- How would you feel if Avril builds up a massive fanbase worldwide? How would you feel if she sustains a thriving career, achieves continued relevance, and exhibits considerable staying power? How would you feel if Avril eventually earns a level of regard and longevity comparable to that of Madonna or U2? How would you feel if she someday cements such an iconic reputation twenty years from now? Oh yea- I hope not to hear sarcastic nonsense like “Lord help us” or “That’s like hell in a hand basket”. I’m just asking for an open-minded and well-thought-out discussion among adults here. That’s all. Thank you.

I saw U2 in Rome earlier this month. It was my very first concert outside North America. I heard the new song Mercy for the first time. Hopefully, it will be on their next album, which is rumoured to came out next year!:)
