  1. ^Even so, I'd be more than happy to give it a listen! :D
  2. I'm so relieved the peak wasn't as high as predicted. Now the flood's moving further south - a town in Victoria has been evacuated after a total of about 150mL rain fell in the past two days, making it the wettest January on record! It's crazy, because this is bushfire season down there! I can only hope things don't get as bad down south. It's so sad watching the news and seeing all these little towns that I've driven through a number of times, just completely wiped out. It'll take years for all these little communities to rebuild! Things are looking up around my area though, the shelves are beginning to be restocked on supermarkets (just two days ago people were fighting over items, police even had to come in and break up a fight once or twice... pathetic), though we haven't had any mail or freight (for the family business) since christmas eve. But I'm not complaining, we are some of the luckiest people to have come through this disaster.
  3. I'm happy to review another mixtape for anyone who missed out on one :)
  4. Good news! The Brisbane River peaked last night at about 4.5m, which was a metre below the expected level. They say this saved over 12,000 homes from inundation. Though high tide tonight is expected to reach a similar height it's not expected to get any higher, and should start going down in a few days.
  5. Another update, as of 17 minutes ago: I live in Brisbane, and although I'm currently on holidays visiting family on their property in central Queensland, I have to say, this is terrifying! The floods started up here, and while my family and I were isolated for about 10 days because of swollen creeks, we lost nothing but a few fences. The amount of rain we were getting was quite scary, it's so hard to imagine what it's like in Brisbane. I'm so worried about all my friends and family in Brisbane, I haven't been able to get hold of some of them and I can't sleep because of it, as they live in suburbs that are being evacuated or are at risk of being flooded. About a week ago, a city called Rockhampton was being mentioned on the news a lot because of the major flooding going on in that city. The river levels there haven't dropped and the city is still flooded. Unfortunately for us, the town we live nearest too gets most of its produce from Rockhampton. As a result it's complete pandemonium here, as of today there is not a loaf of bread or bottle of milk to be seen anywhere in the whole town, and fruit, vegetable and meat supplies are running very low. And I'm talking about a little town in the middle of central Queensland, population about 7,000, that is no longer being affected by the floods first-hand. I hate to think about just how widespread the implications of the flood will be, and how long they will go for. And the worst part is, this is probably only the beginning. The flooding started in north Queensland, now it's in south Queensland (75% of the state has been declared a natural disaster zone now) and moving into northern New South Wales. With all the wet weather predicted, this flooding could go on for months. I'm not even sure I'll be able to get back to my home in Brisbane, or if I'll even have a uni to go back to. This reminds me too much of the Black Saturday fires a couple of years ago, in the amount of devastation being caused. I was in the area when those hit, too.
  6. Thanks for the link, Liz! :D I'm quite interested to see who the Evangelist will be, too :wacky:
  7. I knew there was a reason I never really like Snoop! :P Poor Damon  Could someone link me up with this? I'ver never heard of it :surprised:
  8. Lol, are they? :awesome: /weird time to enter conversation
  9. New album! That makes me happy! I love Humbug, it's probably my favourite AM album... though only just after Whatever...
  10. Maybe there should be a deadline for reviews, in a week or so (or whenever ivet decides :P), and then everyone who hasn't gotten a review can pass it on to someone willing to write one?
  11. Grace. replied to Lore's topic in The Lounge
To my secret santa: I know you've sent my card (Thanks Lore :P) but at the moment my area is ravaged by floods and roads are cut in every direction. So I don't know how long it will be before I can get to the post office! I'll let you know as soon as I get it though!
  12. BUMP Hey Aussies! Just wanted to post here about the craziness of the weather this summer! Pretty much all of Queensland is flooded - my family and myself have been stuck at home since the weekend with swollen creeks on either side of the property. Only today were the creeks low enough to cross, so we did, only to find that the bitumen on the highway had literally been washed off the road. Crazy! Thankfully it hasn't reached the point where we're at risk of having to be evacuated but there are a lot of small towns near us that have reached that point. As far as I'm aware northern NSW is also experiencing floods, and as for the little bout of snow in Victoria a couple of weeks ago... well, it's just weird. Not hearing a lot about global warming these days, either... :p
  13. Oh, where do I start? GORILLAZ Two Door Cinema Club Mumford & Sons Florence & the Machine Delphic Foals
  14. Agree! Haha, the melodica is awesome, I'd love to learn how to play one of them :P I think it's really a matter of how you approach the new album... If you expect it to be up to the standard of the albums you'll probably be disappointed because, well, Damon hasn't spent the time or effort or used the resources he would normally use to make an album. It's just an ipda with a couple of instruments sprinkled here and there and some vocals thrown on top :P (to put it simply) I wasn't really sure what to expect from the album (and I'm sure I'm not alone in saying I had no clue about the music-making abilities of an iPad) so was pleasantly surprised when I heard it!
  15. I think songs from The Fall would have maybe killed the vibe a bit at the shows. Not sure how an iPad would sound played live :P I guess it was bad timing, but it made for a freaking amazing month for us :wacky:
  16. Never really listened to Gaga outside of whatever I hear when I'm out and about, and I don't really intend to either :P Really the highlights of the year in terms of musical acts... well, they've been pretty much continuous! We've had SO many amazing acts out here this year. For me, I've had Muse/Kasabian/The Killers in the Jan/Feb festival period, then all those amazing acts at Splendour, followed up nicely by a very super December. I hope I'm wrong in saying this but I can't see myself ever having another year like this in terms of the sheer magnitude of bands I've seen live! Haha, as for the arias... I agree with Alex that ABC should take over, maybe if that happens the awards might be taken somewhat seriously. Surely they wouldn't be so stupid as to allow the same thing to happen again. Then again, looking at those charts... Also Alex, I like your top 10 gigs thing... I've seen a lot of the same bands as you this year and if I were to do the same thing it would probably be pretty similar! One more thing... I heard Ke$ha (I feel dirty writing that) is doing sideshows whenever it is she comes out next year. I think I might find an excuse not to work that night. Edit: LOL at post above. It's ok, grouchiness is required in such situations as these.
  17. Hope all you Albarngirls had an amazing christmas! :nice:
  18. ^ I've got mine already  Edit: got my Laneway tix that is :P Sure, I'll host :awesome:
  19. ^Ugh, I don't thikn I wan't to see the ticket sale numbers from my show, it was only about half capacity :( Good numbers for Melbs though. Tell us what you think when you've listened to it! :awesome:
  20. ^I kinda hope not, because I don't think I'll really be able to affor Splendour next year but if they come out I might just have to go anyway... :P But I think they definitely could. They're going to have a hard time keeping up after this year's lineup though, I think (Splendour, that is..)

  22. ^ I know right :dead: Listened to it last night for the first time and have pretty much had it on repeat ever since, and I agree with everyone saying it's not better than Plastic Beach but FAR OUT IT WAS MADE ON AN IPAD. Favourites are Revolving Doors, Hillbilly Man, Amarillo and the electronica parts of The Joplin Spider. But I love it all  Oh and I'm totally going to buy a physical copy when it's released :wacky:
  23. None for me either :( Yeah I got mine a couple of weeks back! :\
