yes, i lost count of the number of times i had to put up with Miley Cyrus' 'The Climb' being played when i was back in Malaysia. in Singapore i just tuned into Absolute Radio UK's internet streaming. i do enjoy a bit of catchy old pop or hippy hoppy stuff every now & then...& i'll take Madonna, Justin Timberlake & Beyonce over the Disney brigade anytime...but i just don't fancy listening to just pop, R&B, hip hop all day everywhere i go. :P & i agree with you, that Tired Pony track doesn't really sound as country as i'd have imagined a country song should be. but i do like it...& that's considering that i generally don't have much of a liking for country music. @jenflor : as usual, you are the bearer of "Gary news" from the SP.com forum for me! haha i guess i need to check in there more often... & his blog post seems to be implying Bristol's gonna get 2hrs+(ish) of just Snow Patrol from 8PM.....................which i don't mind at all!!! :smug: bring it on, guys!!!  :wink3:

U2
^ this! :D & just think...how many of the current crop of rockers/bands cite U2 as their inspiration/idols? :D

he's an Irishman trying to do American country music with the Tired Pony band...if the album does well in America, i'd say that's an achievement already! ;) the Malaysian & Singaporean music scene is very American-centric also & i can confidently say Snow Patrol aren't that big in Asia, beyond maybe Japan. the radio airplay trend tends to mirror what's popular in America over what's popular in UK. generally, i'd say the heydays of UK bands was in the 90s when Britpop was ruling the airwaves...before Coldplay & Snow Patrol came along. then the radio stations started drifting away from rock music in general & i think it's pretty entrenched in teen/cheesy pop, R&B pop, hip hop music now unless it's a song by a big band like U2 or Bon Jovi. & mostly it's the American rock groups that get played on the radios in Malaysia or Singapore anyway. & so far, the general reaction i have from my fellow Malaysians when i mention Snow Patrol is either a blank stare or they'll tell me "oh, i don't really like their songs" or "oh, i think the only good song they have is Chasing Cars" (& high chance that that's the only Snow Patrol song that any Malaysians actually know...aka "the Grey's Anatomy song" with a select few knowing of Run). Coldplay at least gets a generally more positive reaction...either that or "i always feel like falling asleep when their songs are played on the radio" (which at least i have not heard being mentioned in relation to Snow Patrol...yet)

really? didn't realise that. :embarassed: i've been there a few times now & haven't been asked to produce my student card like the other uni buildings. or maybe the policy's only in effect when a gig's on .......or maybe you need to look more student-y. ;) but yeah, a coat would be advisable. looks to be a cold wet nite tomorrow. :\

heh...1st post in here & i'm gonna talk about the weather. :P unfortunately, the weather forecast is predicting heavy rain tomorrow nite in Bristol. :( & it's been a pretty rainy day today already... but then, can't you wait around inside the Students' Union building? or are you talking about waiting around for the band post gig?

The Godfather
i actually prefer 1 & 2 much more over 3 as i think 1 & 2 had the stronger stories. but The Godfather is a great trilogy nonetheless & the Puzo's book is as great...since w/o it, you wouldn't have the movies. :)

unfortunately, this IS 1 of the questions for the pub quiz... :\ actually, what are the Distant Echo-ers' answer for the question about what's on the billboard at the start of the Signal Fire video? i think it says "Tonight Spider Man presented by 2C" but the videos i watched weren't very clear, so i'm not sure...i'm only sure (reassured, rather) that it's a great song even with the Spiderman association. well done, Bianca!!! :D i've only ever tried cutting 1 of the origami stars on Photoshop. i personally don't think i can make it thru 200 tho...

Hello Malaysia!
i can't swim to save my own life even... :shame: but Malaysia does have a few choice spots for diving. tho the places i usually hear of are Pulau Sipadan & Pulau Tioman. :)

heh...yeah. at least acoustically it should be nice. :D & being a small venue, the band shouldn't be ant-sized or 1-inch high tiny, i guess. :) does anyone have any patience at all to count the number of origami suns on the album artwork? cos it looks like my ADD self doesn't have the attention span to do the count... :P

Row V Seat 14...which seems to be about dead centre of the stalls based on Floorplan A on the Colston Hall website. was slow on the uptake on getting my ticket...as i usually seem to be with all things Snow Patrol. :P

i need help myself! on top of needing to focus on counting the origami stars on the A Hundred Million Suns artwork on my copy of the album! btw, i just realised that the colours of the origami stars are reminiscent of the autumn leaves around me! lovely! :D (side note: no idea why my parents, particularly my mum, thinks that autumn is the most miserable of the 4 seasons in UK! :P) oh well...at least we both don't have our tickets yet. :( but then Mark's got his already for the RAH show, which is later...weird. & that's an actual sneak tactic? haha i actually don't use flash at shows out of courtesy as it's likely distracting for the performers, but more cos i think there's not much use for flash at concerts, what with all the flashing industrial grade lights and/or lasers if you're up close. if you aren't i don't think that having flash will make any difference.

*lol* evidently the people of Belfast love his beard? :laugh3: tho the writer does make a valid point...the Irishmen seem to be able to pull of a beard rather well. or at least, she gave some pretty good examples. :P yessssss!!!!!!!!!!! SQUEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!   btw, have you received your ticket yet? mine still hasn't showed up in the mail & i get the feeling i'm gonna end up getting my order of Up To Now in the mail before the ticket at this rate. oh dear! does Colston Hall have a camera restriction? :\ cos i was fully intending to bring my trusty P&S camera...even if i'm seated dead centre of the hall. seated at 2nd row, i'd think you would still be able to see the band fine...Gary himself is a good 6ft+. ;)

Hello Malaysia!
*lol* what the hell is with that get-up with the rainbow suspenders & thick sideburns??? :laugh3: this reminds me of something i was told this week : rock stars don't carry cash with them on tour...even when they feel like going out for McD's after a gig. joke of the week, for me! wonder if that's ever happened to Coldplay? :P i hope i can get some good random pix on Monday for you too, Felicia! hehe

will do! ;) the irony of this whole situation now is i can't actually listen/watch anything in that boxset when i get it! :bigcry: my PC's still in the repair shop & the laptop i'm currently using doesn't have a CD/DVD player...& i don't own a vinyl player either. darnit. :disappointed: & that article wins my award for most cheesy choice of news photo tagline : "On Patrol ... frontman Gary Lightbody was on top form at North London gig" :P + it looks like we won't be hearing Starfighter Pilot anytime soon on the Reworked Tour... "Gary refused to bow to pressure from his record label to perform Starfighter Pilot as it "burns my soul to play it, it has the worst f***ing lyrics ever."" must be his English Lit educated self protesting there about the level of wordplay used in that song.

so you know of people who're like that, eh? ;) cool! so both you & Gary have...ermmm...naturally colour changing eyes! :D oh & happy days!!! i checked my email & there's 1 from Universal Music saying that my order for the Up To Now boxset's been sent out & is on it's way to me in 2 working days (if i understood right...so that means i get it on launch day)!!! SNOW SQUEEE!!!:dance::dance:

i've been listening to their albums lately & i do like a few of the tracks. tho some are leaning a little bit too much into the country type of music for my liking, admittedly. & i somehow feel that some of the reworked songs (i.e. the Union Chapel sessions) kinda sound Reindeer Section-ish. but that just may be my opinion. :dozey:

Coldplay, best world stage act, Europe MTV
awww...just cos they beat Coldplay for the World Stage award? i still love Linkin Park tho...we need some Asian representation in the music world. :P & their episode of World Stage was awesome...tho excessively short for the version i watched. it was so cool to hear/see New Divide played on the streets (cos that's what it seemed like). :escaping: *runs away from the upset Coldplay fans*

What Operating System do you use?
i quite liked using the Mac OSX Tiger & Leopard when i still had a Macbook. & i currently dual boot Ubuntu 9.04 & Win MCE05 (basically WinXP with Media Centre features) on my PC...but ultimately i still prefer WinXP. :P
