  1. i don't mind joining your team if you still need members. i'm over 18 & in the UK. tho i'm going to the Bristol gig already. so if there's someone here who hasn't got a ticket to a the RAH gig & wants to play, priority can go to them. btw is there a limit to how many teams you can join? & what happens if your team hasn't got 5 people by Friday? i think they will be going by number of questions answered right by a team by the end of the contest. if i understood the rules right.
  2. i have a theory that the only way Coldplay will ever go to Malaysia is if there's some Fairtrade thing going on there. but Fairtrade isn't a big thing in Malaysia compared to US or UK. i'm not sure what might draw Snow Patrol to Malaysia tho. Gary might find the tropical weather way too hot for an Irishman!
  3. d'oh! Crowded House's Weather With You just came on on my PC while i was reading this thread...freaky! :dozey:
  4. at least you've seen U2 live!!! :D i've been wanting to see them live for ages & a U2 gig is definitely a "bucket list" item for me. tho i'd rather see them at their prime (well, ok...they are past their prime really...but i do think they are still good) than when they are all old & wrinkly for some reunion tour thing. tho U2 will never come to my corner of the world...but then, same goes for Snow Patrol & Coldplay. :dozey:
  5. my fave Aussie band would be Powderfinger!!! :D tho i'm only familiar with their stuff from Double Allergic, Internationalist & Odyssey No. 5 (my fave album of theirs & the one that started it all). left Aussie in 2002, so i haven't heard any of their albums after that. haven't been back to Aussie yet. Crowded House i kinda like too tho i don't really know their songs/albums very well beyond the 2 famous songs. but by chance i got to hear their free gig at the Sydney Opera House in '96 from a far off distance...couldn't see squat other than the Opera House from where i was. :dozey: oh, & i do quite like Savage Garden with a bit of Kylie on the side. :P
  6. yeah, i have a friend who's like that. her ex offered to get her tix to see Coldplay at Wembley when they were still together & she was all "nah, i don't really like Coldplay now". then when she found out i had spares of the LRLRL free CD from Wembley she was all "pls save 1 for me?" anyway, i like the current Coldplay too. less raw sounding & the mood's different, but there are still great songs in both Viva La Vida the album & the Prospekt's March EP. oooh...thanks!!! shall go try & find it there then. :escaping: oh so that's how it works!!! :wideeyed: i saw the Pub Quiz section on FB over the wk/end & kept clicking all over it to see what it's about but nothing happened. so i thought it was just wonky or just simply didn't like me. :P
  7. you could look into using a Lego Mindstorms kit to build the car... http://video.google.com/videosearch?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENXX247&q=lego+mindstorms+car+instructions&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=x4jSSvrIKcOgjAev-oH5Aw&sa=X&oi=video_result_group&ct=title&resnum=5&ved=0CCgQqwQwBA# but then it might not be quite what you need to build since you say you're supposed to build the engine from scratch? & i'm not quite sure how big a car you're supposed to build too. what subject/module is this for btw?
  8. +1 for that! Snow Patrol + Coldplay CD = <3  i haven't listened to When It's All Over, but from what i've heard on Songs For Polarbears, i'd say that the Snow Patrol then sounded a lot grungier compared to the Snow Patrol from Final Straw onwards & even more so if compared to A Hundred Million Suns. but i personally like it when bands show a progression or evolution in their music than just keep to 1 type of sound. & i think the pre-Final Straw albums are from the era before Nathan joined & started contributing to the music writing anyway...sorry if i've got it wrong, i'm pretty hazy about bands' timeline/discography in general. @TickingClock : you have Cubicles??? SQUEEE!!! could you tell me where i can find it...pleeeease? i've only ever heard it from a YouTube video of the acoustic set they played in some record store in Nashville, but i loved it anyway! :D
  9. apparently, if this site is to be believed, it was a case of death by vomit...what a way to go. :inquisitive: http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/news/2009/10/12/stephen-gately-choked-to-death-on-his-vomit-115875-21740316/
  10. Learnt My Lesson Well - Kaiser Chiefs
  11. try Malaysia...hardly any international band/artists from US, UK ever go there & when bands/artists actually want to perform there, there's all kinds of dressing or performance restrictions & nonsense protests by overly conservative religious groups against them having a show! :(
  12. such sad news...& so young too :(
  13. i'm actually kinda confused (in a good way) about how exactly the Reworked Tour's going to turn out. obviously it's not a full on rock concert, from the looks of it. but then a little orchestra's gonna make it not quite a small acoustic set either. i think the standard CD/DVD sets should be more readily available in stores or online. just that the pricier box set is only available on the SP website on pre-order. but given that it's now pretty confirmed that the postal strikes are not quite over & a walkout looks real likely soon, i think my order's gonna end up massively delayed in the mail. :( but, anyway, i do like the box presentation on the website...nice & simple. :)
  14. haha  but yeah, i agree with you about drums. & Jonny doesn't move much anyway unless Chris is nearby... :P
  15. yay! another one! :D i do hope they play it on the Reworked Tour...assuming the whole concept of the tour is for a more stripped down acoustic set, then i'd think The Planets Bend Between Us is quite suited to it. btw, if you want to try your hand at playing a guitar, The Planets Bend Between Us is pretty easy to start with...cos the only tab i've found for it is basically just 3 notes over & over & over (tho i'm quite sure that's not quite how Nathan/Gary play it). same here! back in Malaysia, the radio stations all barely ever play any British bands anymore. back in the late 80s-90s, that was like the heydays of U2, Def Leppard followed by Britpop bands like Blur & Oasis & Pulp. but now the airwaves are either dominated by American bands or the R&B, hip hop types or teenybopper boy/girl bands. i don't mind the American rock bands, but the rest aren't really my cup of tea to want to listen to them on a daily basis. :(
  16. yay! another fan of the Final Straw album & The Planets Bend Between Us song! & i've never seen them live either...they've never toured anywhere near where i'm from. but November in Bristol will be my 1st time. :D 'tis fate that just when i was thinking i'd never get to see them live, they announced the Winter Reworked Tour & the very city i am studying in now is 1 of their stops on the tour!!! i pre-ordered mine already...was hoping i was in the 1st 100 (i think that was the range set) to get a signed one. but i was at least 2 days slow with my order (i just simply don't have the luck for this sort of things anyway). & i am now very broke this month cos i've gone & spent £100+ in total on Snow Patrol for Nov. :uhoh: i'm still looking forward to the box set! including my 1st ever vinyl records too! :D   ...now all i need is to find a proper vinyl record player. cos my dad just told me he threw his old one away a long time ago since it wasn't working anymore. :\
  17. i can't imagine any situation where a 2-year-old would be all "hey, lookie! i'm in Mensa!" & get any reaction beyond "what's a Mensa?" from the other 2-year-olds parents on the other hand...particularly overly competitive parents...
  18. they both look like they've lost weight over the years, imo...tho Jonny seems to have lost more weight than Will. or maybe that's just residual baby fat in his much younger days...cos those cheeks look really pinch-able like. :P
  19. whoa...out of stock already? i'm definitely getting this DVD anyway...once i have the cash...like next month...probably... :\ my fave Aussie state Victoria was hit very badly by this year's bush fires incl Gippsland & poor little Churchill town where i studied for 3 wonderful years.. so it'll be more as a show of support for the Red Cross Disaster Preparedness Projects than for the (miserable!) 3 Coldplay tracks only & footage of Chris' run during Fix You & that 1 Kylie track.
  20. you wanna compare with mine? my Snow Patrol ticket for Nov cost me £60+ all in already...local (UK) delivery & that's not even the Royal Albert Hall gig. :( & don't get me started about how much it costs to see a band like Coldplay or Snow Patrol or U2 during those rare times they actually go all the way to someplace like Singapore or (if an epic miracle happens) Malaysia! :inquisitive:
  21. this reminds me of a story run in the Singapore press about a family who claimed that their young son was a genius on account of having aced A-Levels Chemistry & some other tiny little factoids & was publicly whining about how he deserved to go to a top uni in somewhere like UK, US, etc. but nobody was offering a place. ...which at least this family doesn't seem to be doing, other than gushing about the child's intelligence.
  22. Min, i saw it in the stores in Malaysia the week before i came over to UK. same cover. but i definitely didn't see this around in Singapore when i was still there. so maybe it only came out in August-ish.
  23. just watched it on the iPlayer too! Serge & them pants...they looked like they make a better carpet than pants! & Tom will have you know that that's an "Inglorious Basterds" haircut he's going for there. ;) but i was thinking, looking at his jacket, "Tom's gone Viva!!!" :D ...& loved how he went running for the bouncy castle! (i'd love it more if the others joined in too...but they had this "dude, you REALLY going for it?" look on them! so it's all good. haha) yub yub! looks like i am indeed going (short of having a major assignment due on Monday [PLEASE let that NOT actually happen!!!] *prays real hard*). it's gonna be a great week for me too! Sunday kicks off with Kasabian & Friday ends off with Snow Patrol. oh & that's not my video tho. that was some lucky person who got into the mosh pit (i.e. MTV's idea of a golden circle). but i could still see them pretty well from where i was since i think a good 1500 - 2000 ppl left right after All-American Rejects finished. more room for me to get closer to the front as i can manage. :P
  24. what's the whole point of being a Mensa member anyway? & at age 2? :dozey:
  25. i'm a bit mixed about Empire, actually. i didn't particularly like it until i heard it live (i have this same mixed feeling for Coldplay's Politik...must be something about these kind of songs, cos i realise that the themes are similar). but Underdog & Vlad i definitely think they are both great! with the only difference, imo, being that Underdog has a slower pace than Vlad. which might be why i think Vlad's a good opener.
