  1. Yeah now that you mention it, it kinda reminds me of Rainy Day for some reason.. both songs I like
  2. It sure is nice to see different opinions and thoughts! Everybody has a favorite or a song they don't like for very different reasons. All those differing opinions and thoughts are what make life so beautiful, like a gorgeous array of colors in a rainbow! That being said, when I started this thread I thought I would be able to rank the songs.. but ATM I just can't do it. It feels like it needs to be heard whole, no one song can be without the other. While that could be the greatest weakness for each individual song, it's also the albums greatest strength to me. The two songs that jump out to me are AIMH and O. But I love them all. If I had to pick a song I may ignore somewhat later on it might be AA. I like it, there's just something about it that doesn't make it all that memorable to me(except the epic guitar solo/bass solo), IDK. My opinion will probably change a hundred times, but for now that's my two, or three cents :) AMAZING album.
  3. Wow the studio version made me actually really like this song. I was indifferent to it before but it's just so haunting and beautiful . As someone has said its amazing we get a guitar solo AND a bass solo at the same time, last minute and a half are the best part of the song

Ink.. Also known affectionately by coldplayers as "the penis song" :laugh3:
  8. I really don't understand the people dismissing the entire album cause of one song.. have they not heard any of the other songs? Aside from maybe magic, not poppy or exactly radio friendly at all. Coldplay have always released radio friendly huge singles ( Yellow, Clocks, Fix you, Viva, Every teardrop etc..) but the non singles are usually their best work! AIMH, Oceans, O, and maybe True love and Ink seem to be classic Coldplay with a new twist. Not to say I don't like ASFOS, cause I do, but I understand why many don't. But what I can't understand is why people are dismissing the entire album cause of one song.. ridiculous.
  9. Amazing, amazing song.. It gets better with each listen. At first I was taken back by the whole EDM thing, and I was skeptical after reading some reviews on here. ( I was at work so I couldn't listen but I read a few comments on the song) But man, I love it! Yeah the lyrics are simple, but they fit the song well IMO. The music could sound generic at first listen, but now I hear so many layers a subtle beauties ( FYI I'm no musician so I don't know how complex it truly is, but it sounds complex to me) I know it's EDM or whatever, but to me it just sounds like a classic Coldplay pop song with a new twist. I love something my wife said ( She also loved it ) that it sounds like a mixture of everything they've done till now, and I agree with her. Also I think it's going to be even better in the context of the album!
  10. I have no problem with this song. Don't think it will be as good as the hype, obviously. But I have no problem with it. Coldplay have always had at least one or two very radio friendly songs on every album. I'm glad they're not scared to go outside their comfort zone, I know this song will be stuck in my head. I have only two fears. 1. That I will tire of this song quickly cause I'll hear it everywhere and it may be repetitive. 2. That the song won't fit the rest of the album( but I have faith that they made it work somehow :) )
  11. Wow.. this just utterly killed me. I have less and less doubt that this will be in my top 2 Coldplay Albums, maybe even number 1.. Beautiful song
  12. I couldn't resist.. and I'm kicking myself cause it sounded soo terrible in that quality. Please if you're still on the fence about it, DON'T DO IT. Wait for the release! I only hope I didn't ruin it completely for myself :(
  13. Parachutes: Sparks( also yellow cause it's my wife and I's wedding song :) ) AROBTHH: Politik X&Y: Swallowed in the Sea VLVODAAHF: 42 MX: Up with the birds GS: Magic(so far)
  14. I love your descriptions of the songs. Very insightful!
  15. Sorry just have to say before I go, it makes me sad to see Sparks on so many peoples list.. that's my favorite song from Coldplay! Lol. Everybody has an opinion though, and here's mine: Shiver(Shocker!) A Whisper Low Lost! Paradise
  16. Ok ok, I know we haven't heard all the songs yet, but that doesn't mean we can't rank the ones we have! Here's my list(subject to change): 1. Magic( At first the simplicity made me think I would get tired of it quick, but I like it more and more over time. Guy's bass line, the melody of the course, the simple yet sweet lyrics, the subtlety of Johnny's guitar and the classic, however restrained, Coldplay "take off", right after the ma-ma-magic bit. Great song. 2. Always in my Head ( This one was really hard, I couldn't decide which should be in 2nd, this song or Midnight. I'm gonna take this song simply cause I always catch myself singing it, which is the mark of any great CP song. I love Johnny's guitar work. Great opener. 3. Midnight ( I absolutely loved this song the first time I heard it simply cause it was so different. That initial shock has since worn off, but I'm still feeling this song and wouldn't mind at all if they explored this direction further and deeper in the future) 4. Another's Arm's ( This is the only one that I'm not really feeling(at the moment) the solo is good, not Johnny's best by far. I also love that we get Chris on piano for this one, he looks really comfortable there. Outside that to me this is just an average song. Of course the studio version could change that. So that's it for now.. I'd love to see ya'lls list.. come on May 19th!
  17. It's weird to see a thread I started 3 years ago again! Lol. My favorites have actually changed since then. Opener has got to be life in technicolor now and closer would be up with the birds. Hopefully GS provides us with another great opener and closer!
  18. "All I know is I am lost without your love . . . so much it hurts." -Ink (from rolling stones review) Seems pretty personal to me.. man this makes me sad.
  19. Well yes they are love songs.. but think about it.. "and I just got broken, broken into two, still I call it magic when I'm with you" Sounds like a person who's gone through a break up, but may be in denial. Or has possibly accepted it and still cherishes the time they spent together. Midnight seems to be about going through a very very dark time, but still trying to stay somewhat positive. Another's arms is kinda obvious. And from what I've read of the other songs, this album could very well be about the end of a relationship. Of course it could all be a big coincidence, either way I feel sad for all of them :(
  20. Just want to show my appreciation for this thread, I don't have much to contribute cause my music knowledge is not that great, but please continue posting cause I love discovering!
  21. Actually here's a quote from Roadie #162: "I should probably tell you that we had a rather interesting soundcheck in Berlin today, with a bunch of files finding their way over the internet to me from the studio for the fellas to work on before doors. It’s not a song that’s likely to be in the set for a good while. I’d say that once they’ve finished writing and recording it though, it’s got a good chance…" So they are working on new material.. funny how stuff like this gets forgotten after a few months..
  22. Also The Scientist was in a movie called Wicker Park with that one guy from Pearl Harbor, I forget his name( Not Ben Affleck)
  23. Any word on a setlist yet? Any changes or additions?
