  1. Well you said it, it's THEIR point of view, and opinion.. An opinion that many share, or flat out disagree with. In my opinion, rock music, in the strictest sense of the word is played out, even if there are bands out there that do it well, it gets boring fast.. To me at least. I prefer bands that go beyond traditional drums, bass, guitar and vocals. If you want a list I'll give it. But just a reminder to you and a few other cynical oldplayers, it's also YOUR point of view that there latest is "unimaginative and inept pop trite". A valid and reasonable point of view that is, not trying to say not to say anything negative about anything Coldplay do, just wish people would post their thoughts and opinions as just that, opinions. Otherwise you just seem condescending. That is all [emoji1]
  2. Wow, I didn't agree with Chris's statement about rock being dead.. But if these are our examples of "rock", then yes it is dead. Lol
  3. Man you oldplayers are downers, no wonder you like there first albums so much [emoji13] just kidding guys, I completely respect and even to an extent understand your point of view. But I do believe this album is both happy and joyous. It almost feels like a celebration of everything they've accomplished up until now, like an after party. An acceptance of the bad and enjoyment of the good. You can feel that they enjoyed making this record very much. Lyrically it's not as bad as people are making it out to be, in fact I'd argue this album has some truly great lyrics. The music is simple and easy to sing along to, but that's always been the case with Coldplay. The backbone of what makes Coldplay, Coldplay are all here, Chris's earnest voice, Johnny's dreamy guitar, Will's infectious beats, and Guy's simple yet powerful bass. I think production is what most people have a problem with, but they wanted to give true 100% pop production a go with stargate, and in most ways, at least for me and many many others it worked quite well. I would be disappointed if LP8 sounded like straight modern pop again, not cause I don't like this album, but because I've come to expect them to always do something out of left field while still maintaining what makes them, them.
  4. 1. VLVODAAHF ( musically, sonically, technically and possibly lyrically Coldplay at there best to me, and even if they release an album just as good or even better, nothing will top this album out of pure emotion that I have for how important this album was to me at the time musically and in my life, plus it was my first concert :) ) 2. Parachutes ( I always feel like this was Coldplay at there most raw and there are som beautiful, beautiful moments on this album, again it has a nostalgic appeal to me ) 3. AROBTTH ( this one is close to AHFOD for me, but there is no denying that the passion and intensity put into these songs has been unmatched since, the production is near perfect in every way, and of course... Politik ) 4. AHFOD ( I'm still settling into this one and I like it more and more as the days pass, I know people hate on the lyrics, but these are some of there strongest. Also I love the complex layered production, it works so much better here then MX, IMO this is a truly great pop album of our time ) 5. Ghost stories ( there is beauty in simplicity, much like parachutes, except now with electronic drums and not quite as inspired lyrics. Still I love the feeling I get from this album, very peaceful and evening moving for brief periods. This is the last album on my list that I can listen to all the way through ) 6. MX ( quite a few skips on this one, but also arguably one of the best openers and closers to any of their albums. As a whole it works, but the sum of the parts in this instance are not greater then the whole. ) 7. Ok this one has the most powerful Coldplay moment in fix you, but it is bloated, a lot of the songs sort of just start blurring together at some point, and at times it gets boring. Still better then the majority of everything else out there, just not my favorite by far )
  5. Top 3 - truly special, memorable songs 1. Amazing day 2. Birds 3. Up&up Middle of the pack - starting from great to just good 4. Army of one 5. Fun 6. Everglow Bottom half( note: I don't hate any song on this album) - starting from just good to ok 7. AOAL 8. AHFOD 9. Hymn for the weekend Songs I will not rank -Both interludes - x marks the spot (it's not a bad hip hop song at all, in fact if it came on as an interlude on drakes take care I'd probably jam to it, but it's just not Coldplay to me, so I won't rank)
  6. To me Coldplay have never been about music virtuosity or incredible lyricism. Sure every album has had songs that I think will be classics to me many years in the future, but to me Coldplay has and probably will always be about the feeling I get and the moments I've had while listening to them. Last night me and my wife listened to the album for the first time, and when it was over we were left glowing. We slow danced to amazing day and had a very deeply profound moment, especially considering everything we've been through in the last year, it was a very uplifting moment that we'll always remember. I think Coldplay accomplished exactly what they wanted with this album and I'm so thankful that they did. We can discuss production, chord progression or song structure till the cows come home, but I think the emotions Coldplay has provoked in many of us goes beyond any of that. Just my two cents [emoji111]
  7. 1. Amazing Day 2. Birds 3. AHFOD 4. Army of One 5. AOAL 6. Fun 7. Everglow 8. Up & Up 9. Kaleidoscope 10. HFTW 11. X marks the spot All in all a solid album, I'll give a true review after I've settled in to these songs and gave them a listen while I'm relaxing alone with my headphones on..
  8. I may be alone in this, but I've thought amazing day was special from the very first time I heard it. This studio version snippet has done nothing to change that, I loved it and could see dancing this song at our 10 year anniversary party.
  9. You said what I wanted to, in a way that made way more sense, lol thanks! [emoji106]
  10. Ok I got ya.. I mean I understand where you're coming from, although I do not agree, I respect your opinion [emoji6] also in this case, based on this tiny little snippet, I actually like the drowned out layers.. Not like DLIBYH where there is too much going on and way to loud, a.k.a the wall of sound. This is very chill and easy to follow, again based on just this tiny snippet, who knows what the whole song will sound like.
  11. Wait a minute.. You mean alternative, or alternative rock? Cause there are plenty of alternative artists that use synths, electronic beats etc.. And I'm not sure what to make of, "productiony" ?? P.s based on this 10 second clip, it does not sound like a song that would make its way on to a pop station. At least where I live. Maybe an alternative station though, lol
  12. I love this.. I have absolutely no idea what to expect from Army of One.. I like that the album is all over the place
  13. 7/10 for me.. First time I heard it, though it was pop trash. Second time I thought it was pop done really well. Third time and every time since I started hearing the other elements (groovy bass, great riff from Johnny.. And I feel like Will is having a blast, really all of them feel like they're just jamming out and chilling) lyrics are standard Chris nonsense, but it feels so funky and carefree I don't really care. It doesn't feel like it's "over produced". I do get why some people are saying it sounds like generic pop, but even if that's what it is.. It's the best generic pop I've heard in a looong time. Not a fan of the outdoor and I wish the last bridge would change it up and maybe push it a little further.. It feels like its missing something.. (Kind of like how reflektor from arcade fire changes towards the end and ends in a beautiful arcade fire type ending, could've done the same here and morphed into some funky jam session Coldplay crescendo! Lol) All in all a solid first single, and I will not judge the rest of the album based on this one song, good job boys!
  14. Oh my goodness yes, just saw them in Houston, can't believe another album in less then two months, amazing
  15. Just being here and feeling all this excitement reminds why Coldplay is my favorite band, and is coldplayers are defnitely the best fans in the world! My taste in music has consistently changed and grown, and some people think my love for Coldplay is a bit odd.. But I don't care! I think I'm just as in love with these forums and seeing all the craziness from all you guys and gals. Just a reminder, if we don't get anything new.. DON'T lose your cool! We'll get it soon enough, let's just sit back and enjoy the amazing ride. AHFOD.. I'm ready!!
  16. The Antlers on July 20th at the parish in Austin, tx!! So excited!!
  17. From the fact that they recently played a whisper, and quite well i might add, and also the song ghost story makes me think that the next album will be perhaps AROBTTH pt. 2 :) or at least I could dream. But seriously look at what radiohead did with their 7th album, "in rainbows" it's like they took every trick they learned from every album they made to that point and made, IMO the quientesential radiohead album. I hope and believe coldplay will do something similar, they've created and crafted their own sound through the years, now they can just make a "coldplay" album. A album that is their own genre. Then after that they can do whatever the hell they want!
  18. For me it was O(Reprise)
  19. That's cause it's a hidden track, leaving a long gap, however annoying, is not an uncommon practice. Many, many bands have done it. That being said, yes on the deluxe version they cut the long gap, probably cause 3 more songs follow and it probably wouldn't make much sense
  20. Yeah I gotta say, I love ASFOS, but I hope this teaches the guys, Chris especially to stick to the band instead of doing all these collaborations! The live version is 100 times better cause it's not so over produced and well, not so generic sounding. That being said I think it still fits nicely in the context of the album
  21. Has it been mentioned that the track length off O(fly on) is shorter on the target edition, meaning no long silence before O starts. Which is really awesome cause it makes it feel like a 12 track album instead of 9 with a few songs tacked on the end. So glad they did that, it flows so nicely! Just got mine and listened to it all the way through in my car just like I did with viva, such a wonderful album!
  22. First listen I was completely put off by this song.. Like what the hell is this?? Now.. I love it very much. The chorus saved the day for me, everything about it.. The lyrics, the way he sings "all I know, is that I'm lost whenever you go" the weird sounding guitar riff, the melody.. Then the transition into the final bridge and that catchy outro.. It's like he's doing a harmony with Johnny's guitar, you know the "do do dodo" part, lol. Now in my top 3 from this wonderful album
