[19-Dec-2010] Crisis: Coldplay in Liverpool (ROYAL COURT THEATRE, 1 ROE ST, L1 1HL)
Chelsea, you are wonderful! Thank you for taking these shots! You can see him signing the guy's shirt in the first one. And in the second one you can see me looking - well, adoring. Isn't he adorable? That's our beautiful AnnaElisabeth over my shoulder in both pix. He wrote a LONG note to her when he signed her ticket -- said he saw her in the crowd from the stage! Yes, if you can send me full resolution versions I would appreciate. How is your journey home for Christmas?

[19-Dec-2010] Crisis: Coldplay in Liverpool (ROYAL COURT THEATRE, 1 ROE ST, L1 1HL)
Hi, everybody -- I made it home to western NY last night about 8:00. The travel to and from Liverpool was harrowing, both ways, but the middle part of the trip was perfection. I almost didn't make it since Amsterdam shut down - I actually was having the Delta ticket agent at JFK rebook me back home but, while on hold, she suggested I check for a Delta Mileage seat and I got the last seat on what turned out to be the last plane into Heathrow before it closed. Hopped a taxi to Euston Station and a train to Liverpool and there I was. In a hotel DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET from the Royal Court Theatre. I spent my Sunday breakfast in the hotel restaurant watching the crew unload and while that was happening, "Gravity" came on over the restaurant's music system. Sweet. Mich and others have done a fab job of reviewing the show and some of the other goings on so all I'll say is that I feel extremely fortunate to have seen them in this small setting. To be so close (I was at the front of the Circle) that I could see the expressions on their faces while they were playing was a joy. They really seemed to be having a great time at this gig! But what happened afterward was icing on the cake. I joined Carrie, Chelsea, Craig, Anna, and others for a wait at the stage door (in the freezing cold but hey, who cared?). After a while Security came out and had us form a little lane. First out were Chris's parents who seemed a little hesitant. But as they passed me I said "Mr. Martin! Mrs. Martin! Merry Christmas!" Chris's dad made a beeline over to me and grabbed both of my hands and asked "How did you like the show?" They chatted for a couple of minutes (sometimes my being the Oldest Fan is a good thing!) and then headed for the car. And after another while Chris came out. Now let me tell you, my first glimpse of him, up close and live, took my breath away. Photos and videos do not do this man justice. He is stunning. He moved slowly along the crowd, stopping for photos and signing autographs. He said "I'll sign anything!" and when a man behind me had him sign his shirt, Chris said "Well, I've gone and ruined that for you!" When he reached me there was a clutch of people around him, so he sort of stopped and leaned against me while he was chatting and signing. He kept on leaning for a good five minutes - and my side and arm will never be the same. He signed my ticket envelope for me and then someone asked him "How's your baby?" Chelsea recounted the conversation he had about Apple, but after he mentioned that she was six I said "I have a grand-niece that age." He turned around and looked at me and said "What??" I repeated myself and said that was a cute age and he said "Yeah, that's cool!" And then he had the conversation about her name that Chelsea described! I got to join Craig and the others while Phil signed the big poster that Craig had scored, and we all posed for a photo with it (I hope Craig posts it here soon). Phil was adorable and friendly but not dressed for the weather! Had a 6 a.m. flight on Monday morning so I went back to the hotel for a couple of hours of sleep before the 21-hour trip back, and here I am back at work with a head full of memories. What a great Christmas present. Happy Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!

Live Blog from Liverpool and Newcastle Gigs December 19 & 20 [aka Return of the F5 abusers!]
This is so cool. I woke up this morning thinking "They're probably rehearsing for the shows!" and it made me so excited to be going to Liverpool. And now I see Phil's photos -- I'm even more excited!

Chris plays Christmas lights!
Can't... stop.... watching.... this. And that little smile he gives towards the end is just heart-melting.

New Album will be a concept album according to this BBC interview.
If you don't mind going back into history, one of the best concept albums ever was "Days of Future Passed" by The Moody Blues, released in 1967. Justin Hayward (their Chris) said it was written as "a day in the life of one guy." Then a year later was "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" by The Beatles. 'Nuff said. About the Spanish album thing, I think there are a number of interviews where the band said the name of the album and cover art were influenced by a Spanish artist but it's NOT a Spanish album.

Check out my 11-Coldplay song "Christmas Lights" mashup!
Loved your mashup! Some unexpected things in there and it's great. Thanks for sharing and maybe we'll meet up at a Coldplay concert in months to come. In the meantime, have a wonderful holiday!

What lucky fans are we? Guess what I got today?
Lucy, good for you! And thanks for sharing with us. This just underlines why I love this band so much. They are the good guys!

I got the same notification. I wonder how early we need to get there. Thoughts, anyone?

"Bad Vibes" in band
True! But I don't think that's his plan at all. I think his plan is to give us lots of rope to hang ourselves with and then carry out his dastardly plan to... to.... Um. What's his plan? To keep us distracted until LP5 comes out? To prevent us from knowing that he and the rest of the band are trolling to boards? To ensure that Apparatjik gets to Number One in the universe and leaves Coldplay behind? I think I just scared myself....

"Bad Vibes" in band
Yes, where else can you find a thread that mixes up Star Wars, Jane Austen, and celebrity chefs, all in one place. Although I've about come to the conclusion that Lory is really Guy just winding us all up. Getting back to the "bad vibes" topic, what about Will? All that staring has got to be causing some kind of turmoil within the band. Why blame poor Guy for everything? (I'd better run now before Carrie finds me....) :escaping:

"Bad Vibes" in band
I think this is probably the wisest thing ever posted in this entire forum.

"Bad Vibes" in band
This is getting me so confused that I'm starting to think I'M Guy's girlfriend. Oh, wait -- that would be GOOD vibes, though, wouldn't it? :laugh3:

How would you react to the news that Coldplay was over?
Don't get me wrong! I'm POSITIVE they have longevity. I think that if Chris couldn't express his ideas and write and perform music he would.. just.. plain.. explode!

[19-Dec-2010] Crisis: Coldplay in Liverpool (ROYAL COURT THEATRE, 1 ROE ST, L1 1HL)
I wish those WikiLeaks people would do something constructive and leak the location of this gig. :laugh3: Plane tickets bought, hotel reserved, cell phone upgraded, payment for ticket confirmed. I guess I'm ready to go. Less than two weeks now!

New Coldplay Christmas Song 2010! Christmas Lights // behind-the-scenes footage in first post (parts
LLL - If you remember, Pete, the guy from the production company, said there were going to be some simulated fireworks and some real ones. I think the fireworks in front of the band are real and the ones over St. Paul's simulated. Both very effective!

How would you react to the news that Coldplay was over?
Part of me doesn't even want to put this idea out into the Universe. But I remember how it was to survive the breakup of the Beatles. We all held onto hope that they would get back together again one day. Then we lost two of them irrevocably. What then happened was that the fans kept it going. At any time during the year you can go to Beatles festivals, see tribute bands in performance, or see the surviving members in concert. You can see the result -- for example, the recent release of the Beatles catalog on iTunes. We simply didn't let them go away for good. I think Coldplay fans would probably do the same thing.

I agree! That's the one part of the video that I don't like. It seems awkward. Maybe it's because when Chris isn't at the piano we are accustomed to seeing him either with a guitar or romping around with a mike, not just standing in a line with Jonny and Guy.

Nice writeup on the song and video on Entertainment Weekly's online Music Mix blog (EW.com). They say the boys have "a potential Christmas classic on their hands". http://music-mix.ew.com/2010/12/02/coldplay-christmas-lights-video/ Edit: Comments on the page are positive as well!
