  1. I wasn't counting LiT or Postcards or The Escapist as songs. If that was the case it'd be 24 or so which isn't at all accurate. Muse do 16 songs each night and that's terrible and inexcusable. Despite having slightly longer songs than Coldplay they still only play for 90 minutes. Muse are not a good example in terms of playing time, song numbers or setlists. Coldplay manage to do all of those better, despite not being great at it. I don't know about the exact times but I'm hearing that VLV shows went for close to two hours? They should be doing that at the bare minimum now. Either way, they're still playing shorter shows and there's no excuse for that.
  2. there's nothing (except themselves) stopping them from playing a longer set, with all the hits, and lots of deep cuts for the 'hardcore' fans too this set is a step in the right direction in that it has deep cuts like Daylight and What If as well as the big hits, but there's no excuse for playing shorter sets than last tour. the VLV tour had 21 songs at most arena dates, 19 isn't too bad (could be much worse) but 21 should be the bare minimum considering last tour
  3. due to some union issues or something, musical acts on SNL can't have their own teams mix the sound and the sound team on SNL are notoriously terrible at mixing the musical acts something like that - pretty much the mix on SNL is always horrible
  4. wait there's people who seriously think it'll get a 9.0+ from them? I voted that as a joke. it'll definitely be less than 5.0 VLV got a 6.9 which is high for a Coldplay album and there's no way this will top it. they'll write a very negative review
  5. it'd be easy to make a 'Radio edit' of Hurts Like Heaven that shortens Mylo Xyloto/removes it completely so that's no reason they won't
  6. Charlie Brown and either Hurts Like Heaven or Don't Let it Break Your Heart will be the last singles.
  7. 'staging and lighting' is no excuse. Radiohead had an elaborate light show on the In Rainbows tour and still played a different set every night.
  8. whoops, accidentally voted for Hurts Like Heaven instead of Paradise
  9. I think it's 'and now the streets are ours and we're writing the same'
  10. http://www.coldplaying.com/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=7608 here Chris mentions that UFO was the first song written for this album and that he's reused the chord progression for other songs Wedding Bells is obviously one of those
  11. I saw Chris say in an interview that UFO was the earliest song that made it to Mylo Xyloto and that he used the chord progression from it for many other songs because he liked it so much. Wedding Bells seems to be among those.
  12. I wish it went for longer, it ends far too soon!
  13. that doesn't mean it was 'leaked' who 'leaked' it then? the radio station? unless they played it before they were supposed to it's not a leak
  14. it's only a 'leak' as such if it's released unofficially without the band/label's permission
  15. at the moment: Coldplay > U2 > Muse > Radiohead in terms of mainstream U2 haven't really had a hit since 2004
  16. they played Trouble at Pinkpop this tour, not exactly forgotten
  17. (main one's MX related so I posted it here, move if necessary) I really wish they'd record a truly great album, not just a good one - they're this generation's U2 pretty much, but where's their Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby? (IMO) they've released three good albums and look to have another album that's just 'good' out soon (X&Y is mediocre, again IMO). I think if they really pushed themselves artistically/creatively and decided to be more than just a pop band which they seem pretty content being with MX, they could record something that'd be a true classic. VLVODAAHF was a big step in the right direction with this but MX is barely a step at all. One of the main reasons they left LiFii off VLV was because they felt it was too obvious a single, despite featuring instrumentation they'd never used before. ETIAW feels too obvious a single and that's why it's a step in the wrong direction - they're not pushing any boundaries or reaching new ground for themselves, apart from having Eno help them make cool synth sounds far more prominently than before - but he's Brian Eno, -the- art rock producer, surely he can do more than that for you! Paradise could have been a step in the right direction, as it's a new sound for them, but it's missing something very important - a melody. The other new songs we've heard so far lack the more creative arrangements and instrumentation of VLV (the album) and while they're pretty good songs, they're not anything really new or different for the most part and feel merely content to be good rather than great. Here are some other things that would also be 'cool': -Extend the outro of Lovers in Japan into a big jam - would be amazing live, especially near the end of a gig or something -Play the extended version of Clocks from the Twisted Logic tour or at least the full version again - not the radio edit like they've been playing ever since VLV -Play longer sets live - hopefully they'll do that when they're headlining arenas later this year like they did on the VLV tour -Play a greater variety of songs live - there's all sorts of songs they've been ignoring this last tour, I know VLV could use some more songs in the set and although it's good to see Shiver and Everything's Not Lost return at last, it'd be nice to see some more Parachutes songs too (Don't Panic!). I'm not too fond of X&Y but there's still some songs like Til Kingdom Come and Square One that it'd be nice to see return and even some of the deeper cuts from AROBTTH like Amsterdam and the title track would be fantastic to see again.
  18. anyone suggesting Paradise should close the main set is insane. it's such an anticlimax if they're going to play it at all it should be early on in the set
  19. We don't even know that M.M.I.X. is a interlude or anything yet - people have just assumed that.
  20. Coldplay have always been something of a pop band, with songs like Yellow, In My Place, Fix You, etc. That doesn't mean they're objectively bad because they're popular though.
  21. Just post a guess, it's better than nothing and helps us to piece it together. The other one doesn't seem to be entirely correct, so a different attempt would help.
  22. ...that's a Flaming Lips t-shirt for their DVD 'UFOs at the Zoo'. Chris has often said The Flaming Lips are one of his favourite bands.
  23. I'd rather pay $~150 to see Coldplay at their own show next year than $500 to see them and only three other bands I like at a festival. It's not 100% confirmed they'll be returning next year but it'd be very surprising if they're not back before the end of next year. It doesn't take -that- long to tour the rest of the world.
  24. Unless you have $700 (you'll need at least that travelling from where you are I'd think) saved just for something like this and there's definitely a fair few other acts you'd like to see playing, don't go. It's not worth paying all that just for 80 minutes of Coldplay when they'll almost certainly be back next year with a proper tour and a longer set.
