  1. Darling those tired eyes Go with me all the time And in the dead of night Tell me you will be mine
  2. ^ Thanks, that gives me hope :wacky: Some of Chris's lyrics are really gorgeous, but it feels like sometimes he doesn't feel like trying and goes: "Oh yeah right, lyrics... Er, well let's just do this and then I'll repeat that a few times and add some oohs here... Done!'
  3. ^^ That reminds me of Chris Martin calling himself an 'alltheist', someone who believes in everything. I thought that was really cool, until another forum member pointed out that should include the Flying Spaghetti Monster as well. :laugh3: So we know where they got the idea. :P
  4. My skipping skills depend on my mood.
  5. Oh god, this! You're the first to express my exact feelings. We're torn between two sides. :sad2: Let's start a new group, shall we? :wink3:
  6. The thing is, this 'new direction' just feels wrong right now. I sincerely love Paradise (don't like ETIAW very much) and I'm not a blind fangirl at all, but these songs are just not 'my' Coldplay. There's a voice in my head saying the singles, Rihanna and the overall coloured happiness is very bad news. I feel like I'm losing a best friend to shallow, boring people. (Dramatic, I know.) I truly understand how most people feel. I'd like to believe it's just a phase and I understand the people who say it's progression and we don't want Parachutes no. 2, etc. (Apart from the para para parody, LOL!) I more than anything understand people who feel like 'their' Coldplay is gone and just want them to make good music. I'm pretty messed up. I trust the band and I like most of the new stuff, so what the hell am I complaining about? There's a lot of unheard songs that could turn out to be amazing. But still I'm scared. :( Can I get a hug?
  7. ^^ I hope she doesn't come on tour with them. :worried: I don't like Rihanna's music much and yesterday I was really angry, but now I'm thinking maybe it won't be that bad... After all, it's a song Coldplay wrote and Chris said she sounded different because she was singing his lyrics. So the only thing we need to worry about is the actual sound of her voice, and combined with Chris's. It could be interesting... But still. RIHANNA??!!
  8. I'm hoping with you. Even though I really love Paradise, I'm having serious doubts if that's the right direction for them, so I need some reassurance as well. Even more with the Rihanna thing. :\
  9. I think Charlie Brown should have been the first single.
  10. Haha, maybe you're right because I'm defending that lyric too. :laugh3:
  11. Fantastic interpretation, blankshore. Not sure if I agree on the band being cynical, but to me the narrator does sound cynical towards a girl dreaming of a place that doesn't exist. It certainly is haunting, with the girl not being able to reach her goals. Para-para and the repetitive lyrics make it seem like she keeps trying, but never reaches her paradise. Even more so with the sound of the bass in the second verse and the odd tone in the final piano outro. I didn't love it instantly, but now I'm unashamedly going to support this song. :escaping2:
  12. Phil just confirmed on twitter that they're shooting for Paradise.
  13. ^ Well I wouldn't say that, because they're an English band so it would be pretty weird if the lyrics only made sense in Dutch... If you want that, listen to Mooie Ellebogen :P What if it were for example the girl's parents that told her that? Or, what if it's meant to be ironic? Like she's thinking 'Okay I know, life goes on it gets so heavy blah blah blah, but still one day I'll be happy.' (I don't really like the lyrics either, but when there's discussion, apparently there is some depth to them. ;))
  14. Yesterday I gave it a small 8, today I'd rate it a big fat 9. I think I've fallen in love. :cheesy: There's so much to discover in this song after a few listens. It has many layers. Even the lyrics, I'm not claiming they're good, but they're certainly not as shallow as some seem to think (including me, at first). I think the strings, guitar and even the vocals come close to what it would sound like in paradise. Not to be cheesy, just to point out why it has that 'mainstream/pop/produced' sound.
  15. This! I don't want to be all cliche and go 'I feel like this song was written for me', but... I feel like this song was written for me. (I'm not gonna post my personal story here, but you'd agree if I did.) Someone said the lyrics are simple because they're written from the young girl's perspective, I realized that too. A cheesy line like 'life goes on, it gets so heavy' totally fits the way she thinks, or what her friends and parents told her. Paradise doesn't exist (at least not in life on earth), so it's naive to dream about it and so the lyrics are naive. She's not being smart, so the lyrics aren't smart. Still not good lyrics, but they do fit the story. Even the para-para-paradise part, you could interpret like the girl not being able to 'describe' paradise properly. She dreams about a perfect life, but doesn't know what that exactly looks like and she isn't able to make it happen. So she hesitantly decides to just call it 'paradise', but she never gets there. (This may be a little far-fetched, but I like the idea.) As for the overproduction, it's very slick and made 'perfect', again because it's about paradise - a perfect place. They used loads of strings, synths and heavenly choirs, a warm and welcoming sound, just like paradise would be warm and welcoming. It's so clever, the production totally fits the context, just like Major Minus. I can't believe it. Yesterday I just liked it and was worried like everyone else, but it has grown on me so much. So far my epiphany. :escaping2: Edit: Btw, I love how the board has it's positive vibe back. Thanks for that everyone
  16. What about the video shoot they were supposed to do with Mat Whitecross, while touring Japan/Australia/US?
  17. This is one of the greatest threads (and first posts!) I've ever read. Good to see there's still reasonable people on here. For a second I was afraid the board had divided into two sides - 'Coldplay are dead' vs 'Omg you guys are not real fans if you don't love everything' - both being equally ignorant and blank. I did see this 'new direction' coming and I think that's why I'm able to very much enjoy Paradise at the moment. I'm not saying it's good, but I also won't ever hate it. Not because I blindly refuse to dislike, just because somehow it appeals to me. (While ETIAW didn't.) As an AROBTTH worshipper, I feel like apologizing for liking the song. I completely understand where everyone is coming from. What I really want to stress however, has been said before but didn't get enough attention: Please don't forget, we already have songs like Hurts Like Heaven, Charlie Brown, Us Against The World, which most people seem to appreciate. Then Major Minus and Moving To Mars. That's five out of seven new songs, that are generally considered decent. There's fourteen tracks on MX, from which we've heard six. Only two are really bad for most people in this thread. (I think?) Still twelve left that have the potential to be at least okay. No, they have not lost their minds. (Only Chris has. :P) They showed us some good new songs. And even if you don't think those are good enough, please wait judging the whole album until October 24. I will eat my Teardrop vinyl if MX sucks completely.
  18. I often agree with the majority on this board, but not this time. I absolutely love this song! And I did not really like ETIAW. Especially not on the first day. But Paradise... Chris's voice, the guitar... goosebumps all over. Okay, the lyrics are cheap. I can't help laughing at the every tear line. But Coldplaying is depressing me so much right now. I can't deal with all the negativity. It has so much influence on everyone's opinion, in a bad way. I think some people wouldn't hate it as much as they do now, if they hadn't read the comments. This is not fangirl blindness, I am very picky when it comes to music. Especially Coldplay's. I cannot explain why I love this mainstream pop song, but I really do.
  19. I hate the idea of Rihanna on a Coldplay song, but I want to hear it first. And come on Chris, you could have picked anyone.
  20. I never thought MX would be their greatest, but Rihanna? I cannot believe it. :| Anyway, I refuse to have an opinion until I hear the song.
  21. ^ Agreed, but Drunk is a better songtitle. Nice find!
  22. Here's my view: First thing I did today was peeing, and then checking the board. Mistake. I was depressed before I'd even heard Paradise. Was I the only one expecting this? It seemed clear they weren't gonna do a 'pure Coldplay' for their second single, because obviously they need a bigger audience, people. Come on, they've run out of money. :P Anyway. Yesterday I liked the lyrics, but now they turned out to be repetitive and even feature every tear- SHUT UP! Ooh ooh's have become their trick, which is getting embarrassing. Para-para is also.... not my thing. But I really love the rest, actually. It has a huge build. I got goosebumps at the second listen, which is a great sign. To me it's far better than ETIAW, maybe just because I was prepared this time. Love the tempo, strings, bass, piano(!) and the great guitar. The off-sounding tone at the end and the odd chord somewhere halfway are very, very charming. Chris's voice - awesome. He sounds a little hoarse and more mature, it's gorgeous. That voice is still my favourite in the world and I keep falling for it. I can't help it. I think if I don't let the negative comments get to me, I will very much enjoy this song. Call it my guilty pleasure. :escaping: Er, I gave it an 8. (But then Politik would be 100.) The only thing that seriously made me angry is Rihanna. Rihanna?! RIHANNA???!!!!! I'm not defending you on that one, Chris. I agree with the new fans theory. I feel a little betrayed they've chosen to appeal to a different, bigger audience. But if that's the band's choice, it's not like I'll be able to change it. Might as well enjoy it as much as I can. My hopes are still high for Mylo Xyloto. It will be varied. It has Hurts Like Heaven :dazzled: and.... Rihanna :|. I'm off to Paradise.
