Why do we hate "parapara" and "wawawa" but not "slowowowow"?
^ Yeah, para-para and wa-wa-wa feel like they're just filling gaps in the lyrics... This is a nice question. Not sure where the difference lies. What about the stammers in Major Minus? I friggin love those. Guess they're in another stammering category.

Is the money and fame getting to Chris Martin's songwriting abilities??
^That's not the point at all. I think A Rush has fantastic lyrics, but since Viva had Chris spreading his wings a bit more, I voted for that one. AROBTTH is a very, very close second. Edit: On topic, of course the succes is affecting his songwriting, but not necessarily in a bad way. I don't agree with people saying he has nothing to write about, because he doesn't have problems anymore. Of course he still has problems. And so far MX has pretty good lyrics. Five out of seven songs we've heard have very decent lyrics, which might be an understatement. So: no.

Do we like the new direction with Mylo Xyloto

I want to get a tradition started
^ It's only one move from the Cha Cha Slide and it's called 'Charlie Brown'. It's at 4.35 in the vid. So you basically put one foot forward and hop back and forth. And I think you also sort of nod your head. That's what you mean, isn't it oh heelsrule, Founder Of The Charlie Brown Move? Let's keep this thread alive. It's gonna be epic if we get a lot of people to do this. :awesome:

Single/Album versions...
^ Agreed, please not more synths.... Major Minus is perfect as it is IMO, but I wouldn't mind a stripped down ETIAW. Don't think they will be very different though.

18th September 2011: They've got a ticket to stride (Sunday Times article - SCANS/TRANSCRIPT IN FIRS
Oh thanks so much! Great article. I love how the interviewer dives into Chris's personality, he's such a complex guy. It always kinda fascinates me. Asking for water on an iPad because he's saving his voice :laugh3:. That's something I would have done six years ago. Lol at the interviewer mistaking Guy for a crew member. And I'm glad they still listen to Radiohead.

that running man...
^Thanks for that! A lot of people have been comparing Coldplay's running man to the MTV one. :laugh3:

Paradise Live
^ Jonny's solo should have been turned up though. I think that many are just relieved they didn't rely on the backing track too much. It seemed pretty piano driven. The singing will improve when Chris is more used to playing it, I think. It's not the easiest song to sing, but he can definitely do better.

A Possibility that would make Paradise more enjoyable
Yes and also the xylophone-ish sound in Paradise (intro and lalala bit) reminds me of the ringing sound in Mylo Xyloto. I think there's gonna be a lot of references between songs on this album.

How does Jonny contribute to this song?
I loved how Jonny completely rocked out during God Put A Smile at ACL. That guitar was having a hard time. :laugh3:

The girl from Paradise.
^ Yeah well we all know Chris likes the skinny type. :P I guess it's a very good choice. She's not a bombshell, she's just a girl. And she's pretty enough for everyone to keep watching.

Oooh that's a good guess

I want to get a tradition started
Bump. I think this is a GREAT idea. It's kind of like a flash mob, it would be awesome to do something like that. Has Coldplay ever gotten a flash mob?

Why are some people trying so hard to like Paradise?
You know, I have also tried to dislike this song, because I'm not supporting (there it is again!) the direction they're taking with this one and ETIAW. But er, 'unfortunately' I love it and I can't help it. I get why people would try to like it. For example, I'm trying to like Rihanna's voice these days.... (Now why would that be. :dozey:) Life's easier when you like things. ;) This is a pretty strange thread, btw.

Have they lost their minds?
^ Yeah I agree. But it's just easier to talk about a song when it has a label, that's how our minds work, I guess. And no one can think of a better word than 'pop' apparently.
-
What do you think of the new song 'Paradise'?
^ Great post, you've read my mind. Let me just say, you're responding like everyone else (well, most people) and after a few days it gets a little better. And watch out for Paradise, it settles into your brain, it has a weird charm... I've deeply fallen for it.

Paradise is amazing
I'm just gonna say again that I love Chris's voice in the verses. /Paraspam

The girl from Paradise.
Oh wow, she's pretty! Not gorgeous but definitely pretty. Sigh. When will they finally ask me to be in their video...
-
Have they lost their minds?
Wow those videos are depressing to watch in these days of doubt and fear of possible shallow pop direction... But I prefer today's version of God Put A Smile. (:dazzled:) The 'messy' part is very charming.

Lyrics
Maybe if you reverse it. :P Actually, with this song it's not such a weird thing to say. Warning: scary post coming up. Some people (I don't think I agree with them) see it this way: paradise = heaven = death. The girl feels like shit, she tries and tries but can't get the life she wants, so she dreams of killing herself. Also "the sun will set to rise" could mean dying and then afterlife, with the sun rising on 'the other side'. Or it could mean that she decides not to kill herself in the end. Oh and "the bullets catch in her teeth" speaks for itself of course. I don't want to start any conspiracy shit, I think Coldplay (and the girl) mean a paradise on earth. ;)

Need help convincing myself Coldplay isn't Super Poppy.
The weird thing about pop is that no one exactly knows what it means. It's considered something bad, but if it's still good music, it's not bad. The majority of (young) people apparently have bad taste, that why the label 'pop' is negative. But actually, when a lot of people think a song is good while you don't, it can only mean that you are wrong (in a democratic world). The label 'pop' doesn't mean anything. It's all a matter of taste. In music, even 'good' or 'bad' is only taste. No one's opinion is better than anyone else's. It would help if we didn't have radio and charts and sales.

UIF WORLD DEBUT - watch the video
This is a decent song.  I'm still waiting for the BOOM one on the album though.
