  1. Man, you have no idea how bitter I am that that absolutely beautiful guitar solo got thrown away on such an otherwise-awful song
  2. Oh no, the bassline is :dazzled: but I just can't stand the rest of it
  3. There are literally like three people around here that like TL and Ink. :laugh3: It's beyond me how they made the album--and were made into singles at that!?
  4. :o I did the exact same thing! I remember yelling at my siblings because they were using up all the bandwidth. It cut out so often that I started trying to see how many sit-ups I could do in the time it took for the stream to pick back up
  5. Man I know I rail on MX a lot, but even I can't deny that its instrumentals are top notch :awesome:
  6. I don't need any of your sass :snobby:
  7. ^ For evidence of this see: Lyrically great songs that didn't make their albums: Moving to Mars, Ghost Story, All Your Friends Lyrically bad ones that did: Princess of China, A Sky Full of Stars, Up In Flames, Ink
  8. I really want to listen to the new songs but I also don't want to spoil any more for myself :bigcry:
  9. WHEN AND WHERE AND IS THERE AUDIO
  10. I agree with everything but True Love :D I'm guessing ETiaW or Amazing Day in its place
  11. ^^ IF YOU HAVEN'T YET, go listen to all the old b-sides (Animals, Murder, Gravity etc.) plus How You See the World (1 and 2), Moses, and the Viva demos. They are :dazzled:
  12. I had a thought relating to this just last night that's kind of similar to what you're saying, so I'm just going to piggyback off this if that's okay :D I agree with you as to why MX seems to fail at being "happy," although I think there is another reason that it and GS seem to ring so hollow in the eyes of a lot of fans. For one, MX seemed to be trying too hard to be different. With Viva it came naturally, but it always seemed to me that they guys didn't really know how to keep that wildcard experimental aspect going, so they just seized onto the first "non-rock" influence they could find (pop) and ran with it. It also (in my eyes anyway, I know a lot of people will disagree with me on this) doesn't really have a great flow. It's like a trumped-up version of X&Y, there are some good moments here and there, but they get buried under a lot of mediocrity and forgotten in the very jarring way that everything is organized. Relating to that, I think we can all agree that many (if not all) of Coldplay's albums have always had two/three main themes undercutting everything: love/hope and heartbreak. I think where some of Coldplay's lesser-liked albums (MX and GS mainly) fall flat is that that's all those two albums are about. MX: I love you, we're gonna definitely win this urban revolution thing; oh actually you're breaking up with me? That's cool, we're still gonna come out of this okay. GS: I am sad, but wait, it's okay to be sad! You just get bashed over the head with it and it really cheapens what could be a nice message. Obviously, Viva and ARoBttH deal with those themes too, but in between ARoBttH's anger and Viva's life/death struggle, you get some breathing room. Conclusion: Writing songs about happiness is fine; writing songs about sadness is fine, but we need something other than those two things to really make a good record.
  13. ^ I feel like AHFoD is going to be received in the exact same way X&Y and MX were also. It's going to be really polarizing, and a lot of people will probably not like it at first. After a few more albums (whenever they may come), it'll get looked on much more favorably. Everyone seems to forget that before MX, X&Y was Coldplay's generally least-liked album :P Granted, that's obviously pure speculation at this point, but I feel like there's been enough information given about it to give us a fairly clear picture of how it's going to go
  14. Excellent point. How many bands of their level of fame have been able to stick together for almost 20 straight years with still no sign of breaking up and while continuing to put out albums every 2-3 years? I can think of U2 and Muse, and that's literally it. Even if I may not be a fan of their most recent material, I continue to be thankful that they're still together. I'm lucky to have discovered my favorite band during a time when I can enjoy albums for the first time with thousands of other fans and listen in when they're on the radio and buy magazines they're interviewed in. It's that sense of community that I believe will help keep Coldplay from ever being knocked off the top of my all-time favorite bands list. :wacky:
  15. ^ White Shadows, Swallowed In the Sea, and Twisted Logic are some of my absolute favorite Coldplay songs. The odd thing about X&Y is that there's several songs that are kinda cheesy and bland, but there's just as many that are, like, really good. I could see AHFoD going in that same direction
  16. ^ I 100% get that people's tastes will change throughout their lives, but Chris has basically become a different person in that aspect. In some ways that's good and in some ways that's bad. Oh how I wish Coldplay would take it upon themselves to make another Animals
  17. Cool, thanks for the info! Since "everglow" actually appears in the lyrics, I wonder if those "falling snow" lyrics on Chris's shirt will actually make an appearance. They seem to fit the tone of a ballad, and they rhyme :D
  18. I've never heard anyone say those lyrics are good? Granted, I still like them because there's a really interesting contrast going on with the lyrics and the instruments in Low. Lyrically, it's rather down and depressing, but instrumentally it's about as quick-tempo and upbeat as it gets. It would have been cool if the guys had gone the same route with this song but flip-flopped :D
  19. ^ :surprised: Can you at least tell us if we know any of the lyrics for it yet? Like, from Chris's "falling snow" shirt or the snippet that got played during UAtW last weekend? :awesome:
  20. ^ :wideeyed: Do we know for sure that XMtS is going to follow UP&UP, or are we just assuming at this point?
  21. Fair enough, I'd forgotten about those :awesome: *goes to listen to snippet*
