  1. It's very sad for the kids. I hope they will be OK through all of this and that Gwyneth and Martin are able to keep those relationships open and as normal as possible. As for Paltrow, I personally can't stand her. I won't go on a bashing binge or anything like that, but I just don't like her at all. Think she's a nutcase. Regardless as said I hope all goes well for the both of them and that the kids will not get too hurt throughout this process, and also hope it's a quiet and quick process. It's Martin, so I doubt this stretches on for ages or gets ugly.
  2. Not sure I like this speculative talk about only a few thousand people potentially getting to hear Ghost Stories live. I respect the idea that the album is more acoustic in nature, and intimate, and an intimate setting sets the tone for the album. However, Coldplay's fanbase is huge, and it just seems, well, completely wrong to deny so many other thousands of fans that absolutely love the band the opportunity to see them while a smaller subsection gets the pleasure. I don't know. It just bothers me.
  3. What this means, I think.. is that somebody other than the original founders of this site, believe in, and understand the power of music and how it can impact someone. Sharing those experiences with others is often invaluable, which is why this place is great. Glad to see that somebody, or a group, however it happened -- realizes this and wants to keep the show going. Awesome.
  4. So I doubt we get any quality videos/audio from this gig, what you guys think?
  5. This song really is great to me. The chords are unbelievably good. I like it. The lyrics are a bit different, but I am sensing that with this album. Maybe there is something behind all of this? So far, I really, really, really like this song.
  6. Impending doom hanging over our heads. There's a lot of information here. A lot of memories. You know, coldplay is a very closed band. Some have all of their intricacies right out in the open, but Coldplay does not. The people on this forum have done amazing things to generate amazing knowledge about this band that isn't really public. Whether that be technically how the music is created, instruments used, or just inside stories that have to be painstakingly searched. Not to mention a working audio and visual history of every tour, and most every show they've ever played. That's impressive. The problem with this is that the board is going. Who knows if we ever see it again. Information will undoubtedly be lost (not in a technical sense, but who knows if it will ever be public information again or easily accessible), but that doesn't necessarily mean the end. We can move on, and we can rebuild. It's an absolute shame, and I don't like making it sound so simple, but it seems like a truth that we all might have to accept.
  7. So.. I just got finished watching. So far, my favorite song is "Always in My Head," followed by "Midnight," "Magic," is lower on the list. I absolutely love the mellowness of Always in My Head. That's going to be a favorite of mine. Nice chords, nice progression. Love Will on the drums. Just a nice piece. I'm not sure how I feel about Another's Arms. Agree with the sentiment that the woman's voice is kind of weird or not sure how that works. I love the chords used in that song. I'd rate it above Magic too.
  8. You know what I noticed? It looks like equipment wise, Martin doesn't have the GT20 potentially for this tour. Looks like he's rolling with what I "believe" to be an actual acoustic Yamaha U3. Interesting. (If this show is a warm-up for the eventual Ghost Stories tour much like Rock Am Ring, Lollapalooza was for MX).
  9. It'll be too late on the East Coast for me to watch. I have to work tomorrow, so an 11pm start time just won't work. I look forward to catching it on demand Wednesday though!!! Can't wait.
  10. QFT. Agree completely. I like Midnight quite a bit, but this song does nothing for me at all, and has me a bit worried, but we'll see. The lyrics and how he sings it as said just does nothing for me. Getting nervous.
  11. Love the sound of this new album. Find the music to be nice, however, the lyrics are terrible in my opinion. Martin isn't the best songwriter, but he can do so much better than that. The lyrics just don't work for me at all, and I hate saying that.
  12. thank you to all who went for the reviews, and also for the video. This looked purely awesome. I can't wait for their next album and tour. It's been long enough.
  13. God how I wish I could be there. Can't wait for videos.
  14. So I am going to tell a story. About two years ago when I was in school for my associate degree, I bumped into this girl waiting in a line to buy some books, and we both discovered we were from the same home-town (but both obviously moved to the same location.). We had a nice discussion from what little I remember. She has been on my mind on and off and I saw that she reappeared at a grocery store I sometimes go to as an employee. I've known this for awhile (let's say a year), but we never really talked and or just didn't ever start up anything. Well, Sunday morning I felt compelled to do something, so I woke up around 10 A.M., took a shower, wrote my name and number on a piece of paper, and headed out. I don't know what it was, but I somehow knew she would be there, and she was. I grabbed a few items that I needed anyway and set out for the check-out line, and I started a conversation with her, saying you're from my hometown right? Her face lit up and said yeah, I've seen you in here a few times, I said yeah, I remember you from college as well-- then I said but that was about two years ago. So we're going through the check-out process, and I pull the piece of paper out and hand it to her, and she takes it and sets it down, in a sort of confirmational way if you will. I then said that I'd really like to get to know her, and she said okay in kind of a strange way that I didn't know how to read, and then off I went. She seemed very surprised and caught off guard, but I don't know exactly how to think about this situation or whether it was positive or not. I don't have much relationship experience at all, and certainly very little when it comes to asking a girl out. I've just never had the guts for some reason, and finally said to myself enough was enough, going to do this. In this technological world, I feel a lot of people hide behind the internet to ask tough questions or do tough things. Whether it's using Facebook to ask someone out, or breaking up for that matter. I am happy that I was able to confront her face to face, it meant a lot to myself and hopefully makes things a little easier for me for now on. As for whether she has contacted me. Well, it's Monday evening and I haven't heard anything yet. I kind of go through bits of happiness and then sadness. Happy that maybe she will and that I was able to conquer a fear at least this one time, and sad that I haven't heard anything or if I will, etc. Anyway, if anybody is interested in knowing how it ends, I will keep updated if fellow coldplayer lounge lurkers want me to.
  15. Thanks, I am going to need it. As a kid it seems so easy "Well, I'll grow up and do this." And that's an end of it really, you don't think past that -- but then you realize just how difficult it all becomes haha. Though tbh I am excited to be done with school (though I do plan to go back for a Masters in a year or so). Ready to be independent and get started in life.
  16. I am making it through my quantitative analysis for business class. Just two classes left until I am home free for the holidays. I have an internship and one more class in january, and I finally finish off my health care degree. Then I am tasked with the daunting task of trying to find a job. Go from one nerve racking thing in school, to another in trying to find a job / start a career hopefully.
  17. Hey guys, I spend a lot of time trying to figure out how Chris plays things live on my piano. I found a chord I think he uses live A LOT when playing Fix You, which isn't necessarily apart of the original song itself. I don't normally make these types of threads and I never have before but figured for others it might be helpful. The normal way I play it is with the familiar chord of G, A#, D# G, A#, D, D# However, at the end of for instance "When you try your best but you don't succeed." Instead of playing the normal G, A#, D, D#, you can play instead this chord: G#, A#, D, D#. It's simply moving up from G to G#, while playing B flat on the base, but it makes a world of difference. Throw a few of these in throughout the song and it sounds great. sometimes I play simply a G# instead of the actual chord (with a b flat on the base), which can work as well. Sometimes simply a G, A#, D#, G (octave) as well. There are a lot of different variations one can do with the chords, and I just thought I'd share a few that I've come across. Hope this is helpful!
  18. Really cool that they're doing this, and for such a great cause. Would LOVE to have Martin's jacket, but yeah I don't have $1.5K US to spare haha. Some really nice pieces there too like Jonny's guitar. Notice how none of Martin's GT20s are there, probably simply because of how hard it is to find them these days, need every one that they can get.
  19. Thanks for the info Jan, I see what you're saying. Neither am I really a musician nor a sound guy. Just a massive coldplay fan who likes playing piano haha. I don't pretend to be a musician or something more than what I am. I do this for fun, but there is this part of me that wants Martin's piano sound because it's so unlike any other piano I've heard. The bass is unreal, and it's extremely bright -- it's very Coldplay. I am sure they've messed with it that it's not completely one thing or another, even though it's cool to see that this forum has really come close to pinpointing the general sound he uses. I see the problems you've had, and I think I'd easily experience the same. I am just out of my depth when it comes to these types of situations, and I am not overly bothered to replicate Martin's piano sound because I think the sound the NU1 has is a beautiful sound in and of itself. It comes off the CFX Concert Series grand that Yamaha makes and that's more than plenty for me. Martin's sound would the proverbial cherry on top, but I certainly at some point plan to give it a shot when I have more time to mess with it. Right now, it's not a huge priority -- I am staying busy enough by playing here and there to not get rusty on the songs :)
  20. I start Quantitative Analysis (QA) Monday. Urgh. Last mathy class I need to take to complete my Bachelors degree. NOT looking forward to it. Just the thought of it upsets my stomach lol.
  21. I've been thinking about toying with MIDI and my NU1. It would be cool to get as close to Chris's piano sound as possible, but I haven't really messed with that kind of stuff nor do I really have that kind of money to spend while in college (know those programs cost some coin). Guess when I graduate it's worth starting to mess with. Would also like to use the NU1 or get the most out of it that I can. Nice work btw Patrik.
  22. I woke up this morning VERY tired.
  23. I was kind of so-so on Atlas at first but after listening to it, it's definitely growing on me. Despite it being similar to other Coldplay material, it's still very, very different. It simply has this very different feel to it. It's starting to make sense. If LP6 sounded like this, I'd be a happy Coldplay fan.
  24. Seems like a nice way to spend the day haha.
  25. After 2 listens, my initial impression is: meditative. It kind of leaves you in a tranquil state, which I appreciate. The melody is one that is uneasy to say the least, the piano melody sort of has you on edge, in the beginning but it opens up into a very nice chorus that is very "airy" if I could describe it, like you can breathe after the initial verse. It's like riding a roller-coaster. Think the band really captures a range of emotions in the span of four minutes. I think the ending is uplifting and optimistic, much like many Coldplay songs of the past. I rate this as a solid six -- musically I enjoy it, it's a nice hybrid and very "Moving to Mars" esque. I just can't connect emotionally to it RIGHT NOW, that may change. I quite like it though.
