Losing things that you never find again
I'm 95% sure ghosts don't exist. But if they did, there would be a lot of evidence for them in the flat, e.g. things turning themselves on and off, doors slamming etc. And I guess keeping that 5% makes it less scary than being 100% they don't exist and then having your all concept of existence turned upside down if you had an encounter.

Is vinyl best?
Interesting. I have a vinyl player but I must admit I don't listen to vinyl for the sound quality; I do it for the ritual of having to sit down and pay attention to a record.

Is vinyl best?
Is vinyl really the best way to listen to music, sound-wise or does it make no difference? Not a factual poll, just what do people prefer? Do people genuinely buy records to listen to on vinyl because it's better quality? Do people just not care either way?

I think this era was the greatest era in Coldplay's history. Okay, Mylo Xyloto isn't the best Coldplay album, but if you look at everything the band achieved, it really is quite amazing. When they were announced alongside U2 for Glasto, how many people thought they'd outshine them? They did, unanimously, put in the better performance, and it really felt like the changing of a guard, and the start of one of the most memorable stadium tours in recent years. That tour wasn't only huge, it proved that they were one of the best live acts in the world, and they've represented their country at the Paralympics, the Grammy's and the Brits amongst other festivals and appearances. We're finally starting to see some critics who've previously loathed Coldplay - The NME, Pitchfork - give out compliments to the band, and they're still competing for chart space around the world without relinquishing any control over their art. They've managed to give the fans the most diverse, accessible album of their career and added a few new hits to the backcatalogue. But most of all, for me this era has been a celebration of all things Coldplay. The tour's included so many previous hits we've not seen for a while, the album's incorporated a bit of everything that we know and love from the band, and though the band just become bigger and bigger, the classics almost seem more and more relevant alongside the newer stuff; you just have to look at the newer renditions of Yellow or Fix You on Live 2012, or the setlists that place Don't Panic and Warning Sign in amongst Up In Flames and Us Against the World. I can't wait for a new album and a new era, and I am more excited by the prospect of new material than I am excited by the songs on Mylo Xyloto; I feel I'm on a bridge towards LP6 and I've been over halfway for a long time now. But the MX era's been an era in my life as well as Coldplay's and I'll look back on it fondly; I saw some great gigs, both live and on telly, I was made very proud to be a Coldplay fan by the band, and there were some great songs at great moments that I'll never forget. LP5 era is dead, long live LP6. I'd love a whole new set of songs, but I can't wait for a whole new set of memories.

Losing things that you never find again
That's pretty bad, did you lose much money from the wallet? Just out of interest, does anyone believe that this shit is: a) Disorganisation b) Paranormal c) Dimension/vortex-related?

Losing things that you never find again
Clothes, definitely. It would help if I didn't have a floordrobe to be fair.

Losing things that you never find again
Sorry to hear that, but I'm glad it's not just me.

It's about time they started something new :\

Losing things that you never find again
Has anyone else ever lost something that they've never found again, even when they've moved house/cleared the entire room out? I'm just curious as to whether I'm going mad; I've lost four bottles of squash, three items of clothing, my girlfriend's phone and a razor, that were all put in the same place on the floor. I lock my room when I'm not in it. Not sure it's paranormal, but it's a bit odd.

Off the subject of Car Kids, does anyone else feel that they should spend less time polishing this record, and just get everything done and release it, as not to lose the energy or the excitement of it all?

It was definitely part of something, it made no sense on Charlie Brown.

The Official Club Football 2014-2015 thread
I think he's definitely the favourite, and you're right, he's probably being eyeing up the job patiently for a while. But it'll be a transition season if they want someone else long-term and though his side can probably match City, the top five will all want to strengthen, as it's not been anyone's best season. Whoever takes the job should get three years, and then be assessed at the end of that; take it step by step.

The Official Club Football 2014-2015 thread
Will Moyes dedicate another large portion of his career to one job again though, after having done that with Everton? He's not exactly young. If I was a United fan, I'd want Mourinho every time. It's been an era of what, twenty-five years? I'm an Arsenal fan, and when Wenger goes (hopefully sooner rather than later), I'm not sure I want another long-term manager. Maybe just someone to steady the ship in the right direction, a la Hiddink at Chelsea, until someone of equal quality to Wenger (Blanc, I've always wanted) is ready to take over for longer. That's just me though.

They'd use the spare parts of it though, so to speak. Surely if there was something so good about it that it got mentioned everywhere, it would somehow find its way onto an album, in one form or another.

I know they don't usually release songs on albums that the song wasn't intended for, but I reckon Car Kids could be an exception; maybe it was a direction they decided they wanted to go in on this record. I just don't see why so much would be made of the song and then... nothing.

I'm glad I'm not a girl
I'm not going to dictate how people should behave, and as I've said, I don't disagree with any girl in this thread, or their attitude. I also don't disagree with this discussion, and I believe that anything can be solved if you talk it through. But if you want something, you have to go get it. My sister for example isn't bothered by the fact that most of her family doesn't know she exists. She works twice as hard as me in all honesty, and she's probably off to Cardiff uni to do English this September. She wants to be a radio journalist. And she's going to achieve that by working hard, not by sitting around saying that life's unfair. That's probably the same for most girls in this thread, and most girls in our country. It's the attitude I've been brought up to have too; I've also been told I have to look a certain way and that I can't do certain things because of who I am. I hope that clears up my attitude towards things and clearly states that I have respect for you, the others in this thread, this thread in general, and women in general. I'm trying to not to offend anyone whilst trying to answer what I find to be a difficult question.

I just hope it's not quite as bright as MX...

I'm glad I'm not a girl
I didn't look at both sides, because both you and others made the case for oppressed women in the west, and all I wanted to say was, well is it that bad compared to elsewhere? Of course I realise that some women still feel inferior in our society, but given how most of the thread had covered that, I didn't feel the need to go over it again. As I mentioned though, my views on this have been formed not by a male perspective at all, but the women I know who have the attitude "things only get done if you work towards it, not if you moan about it". Not that people here are moaning or not working; I'm sorry if I came off a bit strongly, I should've put things a bit more gently. And I'm sorry for getting heated Braddock, but I just don't want anyone thinking that I actually do take that one side. Last post, promise.

I'm glad I'm not a girl
I probably am being overdefensive; I'm coming off as something I'm not and I'm trying to put that right. I don't see that as a crime. But I think part of the reason I'm being told that my views are misguided are because I'm male. I don't feel like I've been victimised, but it was very clearly stated earlier that being sexist was "an understandable position to take from someone in a privileged position". I asked my sister about it and she said that if most women took a less defeatist attitude that society was out to get them, they'd achieve more. (I'm not prepared to argue this, I'm just stating this as a girl's opinion) So I'm not going to reply in this thread anymore. I thought what I was trying to say was clear: Western women are extremely lucky. Something that Braddock himself agreed with when he said "Sexism in this country is 'nothing' in some respects, given the global predicament". Sorry for all the offence caused, and I'll come back if I've got a balanced argument.

I'm glad I'm not a girl
I don't want to discuss global feminism at all. You're clinging to things I've said and trying to provoke an argument with me as if I'm some misogynistic Victorian who can't empathise with anyone who is lower in the class system. It's quite insulting to be honest, but I'll overlook it. All I wanted to say was that I believe western women are very lucky, in that they can vote, they can aspire to any job they want, and they have strong female role models. I was also trying to say that any woman who feels oppressed in the UK should look elsewhere and realise that they are in fact very lucky. I don't think that's an outrageous thing to say actually, Braddock. Maybe poorly put, but nothing wrong with it. No need to come down on me like a shit ton of bricks and pick holes in my "argument", as if I need schooling in how to respect people. But as you've mentioned a couple of times that you're pretty sure I'm actually a sexist in disguise, I'll tell you that I was raised in a predominantly female house, and I've gone on to study a uni course that's 80% female, at least. Most of my friends are girls, and actually, some of them haven't been allowed to go out with white guys. In my family, the boys are favoured; at family meals, I always get talked to about uni, my music, football, etc, but they don't know anything about my sister. I used to get more money than her for Christmas, but I'd split it with her. I talk to my mum, and I used to talk to my nan, about football. She used to get up at 3 in the morning to listen to the boxing on the radio, and I used to talk to her about it the day after. She was a women, but I respected her opinion. And my dad does all the cooking in our house, these days. I'm very, very lucky to be male, white, middle-class and British because of the way society is dictated; I'm a proud Socialist, just like my mother, and her mother before me. I am privileged, but I give to charity, I try to work for others, and I try to always think about people who are not as well off as me. But most of all, I've been brought up to respect everyone, whether they're black, white, poor, rich, disabled, male, female, old or young. That shouldn't need saying, because every one of my friends has that level of respect for people, as do you, as does anyone in this thread, and most people on this forum. But if does need saying, I'm not a sexist.

I'm glad I'm not a girl
I never said women should "quit moaning" because they've got it okay. I said that in comparison to some places on Earth, women here are lucky; if something should be done about feminism, shouldn't it be done in countries where women don't even have the right to vote? My point about Loose Women for a start is that if two male commentators can be sacked, that show shouldn't be allowed on air. Also, what you've said about the art and the artist doesn't make sense; if the art is misogynistic, it should surely be boycotted? As I said originally, I'm not disagreeing with anything that anyone has said, I'm simply trying to make the point that in our society, it's not as bad as it is elsewhere in the world. At the start of the last century, there were women that died in our country fighting for the vote, and a few weeks ago, we held a state funeral for our first female prime minister. That's how far it went, and the work's continuing. Obviously, sexism exists in society, but what I'm saying is that it's nothing compared to what happens in other countries. That's the point I'm making. My comments are not misguided, they are, as I said, trying to look at things from the other side of the coin.
