  1. The only ever comparison I've got is Zachary Quinto from Heroes/Star Trek. Not sure if that's good but I'll take it.

Definitely new pedals. If you listen to the way that bands like Foals, Tame Impala, the Antlers, and they way they mix it up guitar-wise, it's a very "in" thing to do; could work for Coldplay.

I think MX is the album X&Y wanted to be. I think, I hope we'll see some of those demons exorcised on LP6; longer songs again, a slightly spacey feel on a couple of tracks, playing with synths on slower moments… just because it wasn't a good album doesn't mean there isn't a lot to take from it.

Ha, so a resounding "Meh" to "Don't like" all round, eh? I've only heard the EP once at my mate's, thought it was alright, similar to Friendly Fires/Vampire Weekend. People seem to be talking about them here and there, though.

It's been referred to, but I think it's kind of obvious the first three are different to the last two, right?

For someone who loves the early stuff so much, it's surprising that you got into them so late. I got into them circa 2008. I love Rush, but Viva's my favourite album by a mile; I'd take post-trilogy Coldplay over pre-trilogy Coldplay any day :P

I haven't seen much of the old series. Watched the TV Movie the other day, dear lord

    Has anyone heard them? They're alright actually. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcf6iQDWPEo]Peace - Bloodshake - YouTube[/ame]

Yeah I get you. They maybe leant a little too much on them on MX. I mean, was there any need for them during Charlie Brown? They should write some riffs as good as that; riffs that people want to sing along with regardless of whether or not they're being prompted with a woah or ooh.
  12. And actually when you say something like that, I think it's time to stop watching, stop taking goats so seriously and get a fucking life.
  13. I think it's funnier when it's just the compilation of goats yelling like humans; I love the one where the goat's spitting and shouting at a Spanish one. All the remixes sound crowbarred in, with the exception of Skrillex and Taylor Swift. People really need to continue the music when the goat screams too, it just sounds cheap to cut away to an unsynced goat.

The wordless chorus get knocked a lot but as someone on here mentioned, Sigur Ros get away with it. I haven't got a problem with them woahing if it gets rid of a cringey lyric or two

I like it too, I'd like to hear more stuff in that vein to be honest :P
  16. If I told you, you'd have to delete your internet history by mere association.
  17. I really want to go to the Roundhouse in Camden so that leaves me with three options. 1. Get round to listening to Atoms for Peace. Hopefully enjoy it. Go to a show there. 2. Wait for iTunes festival. Book for something. Hopefully get a ticket. 3. Wait for someone I know I'll enjoy to play a show there. Bloody hell I wish I was rich enough to just turn up on the day for whatever gigs whenever.
  18. Where's Brent? That's what I wanna know. I wonder if he's finally put that mug down.

It's ironic that you keep going on about it being irrelevant, and yet you're the one perpetuating the discussion with continual mentioning of it. Stop it, and we can all move on. Back to the subject of Don Quixote, I think it was something obviously written in half an hour, based on Dancing in the Dark, and designed to please the South American fans. We were never going to see a recorded version. Still... it beats some stuff we've heard since...

Let's move on and ask another question, that'll hopefully get people talking again. What's the one song that you believe should be the basis for LP6? This isn't to say that this is the only sort of song they should do on the album, but one song that could fit onto the album and not sound out of place. For example, the band said after Paradise, they knew which direction to take MX. Radiohead said Lucky was the first song recorded for OK Computer, as it took them where they wanted to go with the album. And Arctic Monkeys said Cornerstone led the foundations for Suck It And See. It doesn't have to be a Coldplay song, but for me, I'd say Politik (Grammys 2003 performance).

They take a year or two to complete an album, some bands take a couple of months. They definitely have more. And they whittle about 50 tracks down to the final LP down to 10-12 songs. Muse for example, I believe, only record the ones that are going on the album. (These days anyway.)

+1 And how nice would a big boxset be with demos, early recordings of tracks, different versions of songs, and live run-throughs that they do in that big space next door?

They need to do the opposite in my opinion, they need to put pressure on themselves. As Celine said, MX was a very relaxed atmosphere, and as a result, it is somewhat complacent in places. The same in X&Y; they didn't have the right producer forcing them to work harder and push themselves further. On A Rush of Blood to the Head, they have frequently said how they were really trying to be different and to push the boundaries. Tracks like Politik and Clocks came from this new mindset of wanting to put pressure on themselves, and again in 2008, they stressed how Brian Eno taught them to think differently, and how hard they worked to try things they'd never tried before. A lot of bands produce better work when they put themselves under pressure to be different from last time: Radiohead are the prime example of this and Kid A is an album that is so big in its ambition, most critics and fans excuse its weaker songs for it. It's hard to excuse weak songs when there's very little effort put in. Coldplay need to work harder imo, and people might disagree with me, but when it's a relaxed camp, I think that when their music becomes too comfortable, they become a bit "ugh" and boring.
