I had a hunch that John Hurt might be playing the Third Doctor, but I'm not so sure, comparing photos :lol: If you look at the two other guys they've cast, there's a similarity between other previous Doctors...

Can't remember but there's an answer above... might be it? I actually went into a shop in Swanage, Dorset, where they had an actual Dalek from the show. And the guy was a proper sci-fi geek, telling kids not to touch it, because it was "the actual Dalek from the episode Rose"... so I had to tell him that there were no Daleks in Rose, only Autons, and that perhaps he meant the episode, Dalek. Or Bad Wolf. Or Parting of the Ways. Or even one of the two episodes from Series 2 that featured Daleks. He couldn't remember. Which was awkward.

I don't think lyrics are the only part of Coldplay's, or any band's arsenal, when it comes to relating to the music. I think what Coldplay mastered on MX, was forming an overarching mood, whether that's hopeful and excited on Hurts Like Heaven, pensive on Us Against the World, or fearful and pessimistic on Major Minus. Whilst The Scientist is a great song, it's somewhat conflicting in that the music is so sad, and the lyrics are hopeful for a new beginning. I remember reading that listening to Coldplay songs for the lyrics is like reading a book for the page numbers, and I agree with that statement wholeheartedly. Chris's strengths will always be in melodies, and if I were you, I'd be feeling optimistic about what he'll bring to the table in the LP6 sessions.

We have a Doctor Who shop in London, I went to it once and picked up a Tennant poster :D I've got a screwdriver. First date my girlfriend came round to my flat, it was snowing outside, so I put on some strawberry candles in lanterns, and put on the disco ball. Then I got my sonic screwdriver and held it up to the touch sensitive button to turn on the heating. I was so cool, that day.

I'd recommend redrafting a few more times to avoid the silly errors. Also, red herrings are nice, but not too many; try to make everything central to the plot. You're a hit on here, so it's just little things you should work on.

Still tense problems there, and I just need to ask, do you have any idea where the story's going when you start writing it? Just the ending seems a few thousand miles away from how the story seemed to start and I'm wondering what the relevance of the fishsticks were. Also, careful of forced exposition; "After all, you just recently met us during our freshman year," is such a bad line because it's not realistic speech and it's just there to give the audience information. Sorry! How long do you spend editing, out of interest?

So there's absolutely no jump from "oohs and aahs" to "20 minute long psychedelic" tracks, is there? I just find it utterly ridiculous that people want to ignore the last five years of the band's history, as if suddenly appealing to swathes of festival-goers suddenly renders a band completely artless. What's wrong with the "pop" side of Coldplay? Is there really nothing to like about it because it has synthesizers? Come on, every band on the planet has used a synth/keyboard at one point in their career... even the Smiths used one to create the string section on There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, and Morrissey hates the friggers. Coldplay are Coldplay are Coldplay. Would it really suit them, are they really a band that can morph into Pink Floyd? I'd use some of your own words to describe a move like that: pompous and silly. You can dislike "mainstream" music all you like, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to take from it. And Coldplay will always be commercial, that's part of their ethic. If you want 20-minute long psychedelica, listen to Amorphous Androgynous's remixes for Noel Gallagher and Oasis.

I think they need Eno had the helm for another reinvention, though a bit subtler this time. Then I'd ditch Dravs personally, and bring in someone fresh. Paul Epworth, anyone?

Back on topic of LP6 and not just which Coldplay albums/songs we all prefer... Who do we reckon in terms of producers?

Just from what I've seen on here. But of course, I could mention any song, and people will say "Oh I like that one", which makes the whole "some songs are weaker than others" argument redundant, somewhat :lol:

If we're talking weak songs from each album, I think the general consensus is A Whisper/Daylight on Rush and Lost!/Yes on Viva.

I can't say it's especially in fashion, to be honest. Must be the latter.
