1. That track is kind of a snooze honestly. I think Warning Sign is probably the most boring track in their discography but I still like it for what it is.
2. Am I imagining it or are there VERY few proper nouns in Coldplay lyrics? I can think of Japan and China (SoS) Violet Hill Strawberry Swing Green Eyes off the top of my head. It certainly is a stylistic choice.
3. Yeah that hits it on the head. From staying up on the release night to listen to it on a pair of $35 dollar headphones to $500-600 2.1 systems and headphones with a DAC and amp it STILL sounds like it's being run through a lead pipe
4. I can certainly point out my gripes with Mylo Xyloto and AHFOD and how I feel about them sonically. Hell I still wince during Spies when they break into the bridge because Will's cymbal crash feels like it's ripping my speakers. I think a large portion of the reason I keep MX so low in my personal opinion is because of how it turned out from production.
5. More or less agree with all of this. I think I've scattered similar thoughts throughout here and other threads. K-EP CAN'T be what we would want because thematically it will remain in AHFOD. I think Hypnotized was just a preview. I honestly think AHFOD will either be the last album they make, or they'll make a "final" album and maybe if we're lucky they'll give it some attention.
6. The VLV ad was iconic for them. I really believe that era took off thanks to Apple and of course VLV itself.
7. oh cool didnt notice, thanks. Funny because I definitely recall using Coldplaying around VLV but maybe I never made an account.
8. Always In My Head is the perfect marriage of new and old coldplay to me, incredible song. Reminds me they can find peace between the two.
9. After a few more listens my biggest gripe is the effects on Chris's voice.
10. After a couple more listens I like it a little more but the strings still feel like they're too prominent and I can't shake the similarity to Amazing Day. I think maybe the song tries to be too big when it doesn't need to.
11. You're truly an enigma to me I don't know if I agree. It's not too distant from themes in Amazing Day and still has a similar musical pallet. One song being better than an album is a pretty bold claim, I'd rank Birds above Hypnotized. Birds is a bit more interesting to me where Hypnotized doesn't really go anywhere, a very subdued, almost generic ballad. Which based off what I said about it should tell you how low my expectations were set.
12. MtM > Hypnotized to me but I'd be lying if I said I'm not pleasantly surprised. It's not everything I want but easily enough to satisfy.
13. It's complicated to say the least
14. Ah not even that but either way it looks like it was just speculation Mobile Link: https://twitter.com/coldplay/status/835248748905263106
15. I've got a really bad feeling about the upcoming concerts they're trying to plan in Israel.
16. Amsterdam is my favorite song, ever. In fact I like it so much I try to rarely listen to it just so it feels that much more special when I do.
17. Does anyone wanna talk about things that you didn't like on the albums (the holy four obviously) that you feel like keep it from being better? X&Y has been played a couple times recently in my car cause I keep the CDs in there in case I can't use my phone for some reason and man I really, really don't like Speed of Sound, It's probably my least favorite song from oldplay. Instrumentally it's boring and feels like it came out in a couple minutes with no thoughts of even trying to make it sound like it isn't 4 prebaked parts pieced together with awkward transitions between each. Chris cemented his mainstream hatred with his vocals on the track, pretty much anyone that mimicks him picks this track, yellow, or vlv, but Speed of Sound is truly one for the grocery store.
18. MX had hope, KEP is more like making sure you're thoroughly disappointed in time for it to release so you don't lose any more respect.
19. Also feel welcome to use the Oldplaying thread as a nice retreat from currentplay if you feel so inclined :^)
20. 4 and a half but that's just by my record Man this hurts to hear because of how true it probably is.
21. Too big of a Kanye fan to pick anything else.
22. Jonny is the redeeming light in the new albums.
23. Is there any other EDM beat? Yeah if you pretend it isn't the same people you can almost listen to the whole thing. At least I don't have to put ASFOS at the bottom of the list anymore. But this is so far gone that I can only hope they get it out of their system and don't bring this along for future work, Kaleidoscope is AHFOD so I'm expecting to not like it but if this is what lies on the other side I think I'll stop here. Just because the band plays some instruments on the track doesn't make it "featuring Coldplay" to me, they could have just as easily tracked them on a program. The "Coldplay" part is just them rolling over and including another ASFOS bridge rework. I don't understand how Jonny, Guy, and Will can even play this with a straight face.
24. I don't see how a track can "feature" a band unless we hear something distinctly Jonny guitar or something. It's out of the norm either way since Chris has featured on a ton of tracks before as (ft. Chris Martin). No feature is gonna top Homecoming
