Random Coldplay thoughts...
I recently added "Homecoming" to my bank of knowledge. It was funny because I sat down and thought I already knew it but when the track came on I drew a blank. But it's pretty short so it didn't take very long to get it.

Don't wanna break your heart but I'm pretty sure not a lot of thought was put into gone but not f. cotton. It just sounds like they whipped it up to intentionally sound like a stereotypical Coldplay song, rather than a genuine song.

That's a bit of a stretch. If you go back and listen to pre-parachutes tracks like Easy to Please they were already "out-there" from normal alt rock

Huh interesting. Other than that MIA was a great show from them, should have went LOL.

Can anyone confirm Chris actually sung Clocks verse 1 at MIA? It sounded like his voice cracked when he said "me".

I don't think they considered it until approached by the people credited with the mastering. It also could have been in the works and they found a good place to fit it in the sales calendar but like I said I don't think they're being pushed by contract to do this, especially since it's just going up on the fansite. Also if you don't have the equipment (receiver or DAC) it's not even going to play, never mind the quality of your speakers.

Such A Rush has so much emotion. What a dream it would be to see them do that live. I'd really feel snubbed if at the end of it all we don't get to hear all these classics one more time.

I don't think it's a cashgrab at all really, It's the same album and all just with different formatted audio, they aren't trying to sell it to you again, and this wouldn't have worked on a CD release. I personally don't have a 5.1 setup and don't plan on investing in one any time soon but this would be interesting to try out and see if there's any perceivable difference between this and the normal (PCM/44kHz/16bit) CD

Yeah I almost wanted to revise myself but I figured everyone would know what I meant. Up&Up I 100% agree with, coming in with a drum machine in the first verse is so jarring. I also understand tracks like Midnight and the like wouldn't have come to fruition without a electric set but I don't agree with the percussion choices they've been making for most tracks.

Also the kick drum in army of one is most certainly not a real one, Will playing a drum machine really hurts me on a deep level. He's been so good at finding the perfect way to drive a song with a real kit and now it feels like the songs have no life to them.

Fun has a nice bridge, rest of it can bug off though. I don't listen to the hits very much but I caught VLV on the radio today and I still really like it. You can tell especially with VLVODAAHF they had so much creativity and even though VLV is the mainstream hook of the album it's still damn good.

The 'Coldplay has changed' rant
Well I can safely say that each new album has taken at minimum a year for me to really come around to it. Just recently I've been a little more accepting of True Love.

The 'Coldplay has changed' rant
Yeah I'm sure I've come off worse in other posts but I don't think there's anyone on here that genuinely despises the band or takes the new music personally. I had a very good time at the AHFOD concert regardless of what my ideal setlist would look like. I only really read coldplaying for a while without an account, but I reread some old threads about the tracks and it's interesting to see what people have to say when they were the ones waiting in anticipation. Expectations can build to unreasonable heights when you're waiting years for a new album.

The 'Coldplay has changed' rant
Actually you have some points I'd like to address This pretty much the exact place where you can do that. Comparing and Contrasting is the basis that taste and preference is derived from. You can't objectively score music so instead we form opinions based on what we like and dislike. I could compare Parachutes to AHFOD pretty eloquently actually and explain why I prefer one (Parachutes) to the other. I've seen these arguments a few times and they holds no water. It's a total appeal to emotion that tries to excuse criticism of the new albums. I'd hope that everyone gave it a couple chances as I'd assume most people on here still consider them their favorite artist. I've given each songs plenty of chances but it just wasn't for me, and what I found is that I feel that way about most tracks post VLV. The Pop influences are a very small part of it I'd say if I could speak on behalf of Oldplayers, and I also agree that most bands will have fans that prefer a time period over another. Usually because the band does change and eventually they change in a way that a particular fan doesn't like and they drop off. If anyone reads over the Oldplaying thread I think they could pick up on some of the things we like/dislike, it's a lot more nuanced than it seems.

The 'Coldplay has changed' rant
One day I promise I will write a nice long post about this but today is not that day. But what I can give you for now is something to consider. Viva La Vida was a pretty big departure from Coldplay's previous albums but it is universally praised by nearly everyone here, old and new. MX was another departure from their comfort zone but it began the split between "Oldplay" and "Newplay", but why? When you understand the answer you'll know why Oldplayers exist.

I agree, sometimes you have to close your eyes and imagine the Chris from that era to see if it matches up lol. His Life on Mars cover on the Howard Stern show was pretty excellent, he also in my opinion tries much harder when they do covers, probably because he respects the artist and their music more than he does the own bands, which could be a product of two decades of light self-deprecation. But there are some bits of his voice that have changed, maybe not gotten worse but things like how nasally certain syllables are when he sings them and stuff.

Man listening to X&Y era shows makes it so clear that Chris's voice was in peak condition. So many tiny little things about it make it so great.

Ghost Stories strength to me was stringing the album together with the 4 tracks that to me were what the entire album should have tried to support, kind of like a pallet to follow when making a painting. I think each album has a pallet that the band tries to abide by because it's what makes albums feel complete. I remember Chris saying that VLV was an album they felt like they really finished 100% and I agree because it feels like it's their most concentrated effort to make an album feel consistent front to back. Anyways the songs in GS I'm talking about are, Always In My Head (one of their best songs ever in my opinion) - Midnight - Oceans - O. Magic is laid back enough that I think it can sink into the album but right after AIMH is a bit jarring. Ink just isn't my thing, I've come around on True Love enough to listen to it but it could just as easily been on AFHOD if you swapped the lyrics with something cheery. Midnight refocuses the album for me and Another's Arms is a good follow up but they went overboard on the effects. The moaning or sighing is a little much and eats up too much space and Chris's voice really didn't need to be played with as much as it was. ASFOS was fun live but oh my god why did they make this they should have penned it as The Nappies. Fly On/O is a good closer, bonus tracks are just tacked on which is fine but I don't consider it "part" of the album. EDIT: when I talk about the sighing in AA, I mean during the verses, it kind of sounds like sighing but it's probably Jonny sliding on his guitar, the actual synth of the woman aaaaahing is pretty nice.

Random Coldplay thoughts...
When I see articles taking a shot at the band it doesn't even make sense to me anymore. The band obviously doesn't entertain that stuff, the magazine is doing it to be controversial (very funny NME), and Liam is doing it to shake things up. It makes me wonder if there are people who still like to hate on Coldplay even though I'd say the "coldplay hate" came to a head around X&Y.

No but I'm at work, I'll check when I get home, is it supposed to be a link? Most news sources are uninformed, better off asking us (the fans) when it comes to stuff like that anyways lol. I think everyone will know when it's time.
