It's all good, should have included links but got wrapped up in work. Coldplay posted this photo to advertise Chris' last together at home show a few weeks back. If you look closely, you'll see the guitar has a song label "Rescue St." This week, I Ran Away has been doing amazing investigating into this and has a great Twitter page you can check out and follow for more info. Basically, I Ran Away found evidence in this interview and in images that Rescue St. is a song.

So the exciting news on the Discord is that the track "Rescue St." is basically confirmed. It was originally on the tracklist for Mylo Xyloto but Chris said in an interview it had an acapella bridge that sounded like crap so they cut it. Contextually that conversation was about experimenting with Brian Eno, so always good to hear of more tracks that have his influence! BUT NOW -- we've seen in an official Coldplay social media post an acoustic guitar labeled "Rescue St." implying that Chris was recently working on the song. Personally, I'm excited to hear anything that originated during the Viva/MX eras. So far, Arabesque and ALIENS have been some of their best newer material, so I'm optimistic. But also, acapella sounds potentially more pop-oriented, and some of the pop during the MX era wasn't my cup of tea... so we'll see.

I don't know if I really agree with the whole "rock is dead" ethos so many artists carry now. Chris has said that he feels everything's already been tried in rock, which still I don't think is true. Yes, rock is maybe "dead" in the sense it no longer charts on the Top 40, but as a rock listener there are still plenty of amazing, innovative bands out there right now. Also, importantly, you're seeing a resurgence of artists using old rock styles in pop music now. The 1975's new record is great and has some interesting rock-inspired tracks. Then there's Post Malone incorporating rock riffs and grooves into his music. I could go on... What we're seeing now is artists become genre-less in the age of streaming. There will continue to be really good rock songs every year hit top 40, but they might be from non-rock bands or pop artists doing a one-off rock track. If there is ever a group that could pull of a rock song and make it sound classy and timeless, I think it is Coldplay. So I hope it's true.

Yeah I feel like I can't really take Chris at his word of not doing "a conventional album" ever again. That could mean so much outside of genre and sound, and plus the guy just tends to say a lot of things that get misread. I'm more trusting of the supposed "studio exec" that claimed they'd release a more mainstream album in 2020. There's always a chance we're wrong and Music of the Spheres is LP9 and it's a crazy rock opera space odyssey... but even EL, for all of its "experiments" had Orphans and Cry Cry Cry. I just don't think Chris has it in his blood to put out an album without some huge swing for the Billboard Top 40. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. I'm open to a pop album if the songwriting is really solid and the production is top notch.

Well, back to the waiting and guessing game. One discussion point: Last week a Coldplayer(?) posted an interview with Davide Rossi. Worth a watch. Dav seems like a really nice guy and there are some interesting tidbits about how the band works together. he gives a less censored account of the songwriting process that the AHFOD film glossed over. What stood out to me is that Chris moved to LA after MX, and from Dav's perspective, the band really stopped jamming together after that point (this seems counter to the making of GS videos, AHFOD documentary, and Will saying they jammed on EL in Italy). Personally, I think Viva and MX felt like Coldplay's most creative eras, so that lines up to me. Regardless of whether you like those albums, they are full of such cool ideas and unique sounds and the collaborations with Eno, Hopkins, and Dav feel really organic. GS and AHFOD, in comparison feel a lot more like Chris solo albums featuring a band, on many, not all, tracks. I find this info a bit of a bummer... but maybe it doesn't have to be? After all, Everyday Life includes some pretty jammy songs (Arabeseque, Church, Trouble In Town, and Champion of the World). But other songs (Cry Cry Cry, Guns, When I Need A Friend, Everyday Life, BrokEn) are basically Chris and Chris only. I just think with Chris' personality and songwriting, and the huge wealth of the band, there would be less and less desire to innovate and be creative when you're not in the same room together. Just slap some instrumentals down over Chris' vocals and call it good. What do others think? Am I interpreting this wrong? Will we ever get something as creative and organic sounding as viva or Mx? ### Also, shout out to Dav's most recent Soren Lorenson project, I think it's really good and more folks should listen to it. (

Posting here because it felt truly random today. Tho I usually rank it as my least favorite Coldplay album, I just listened to AHFOD and it slaps. Heading into the album in 2015 I had some head canon about Coldplay doing this big dance album and was ultimately disappointed when it ended up being a mixture of lots of genres and overall tones. Sometimes it takes a lot of separation, and a new album (EL), to go back and fully appreciate an album era. I think a lot of critics and light fans will disregard the album of having weird tonal shifts and covering too many themes, but looking back at the last 4.5 years I find a lot of value in Chris' lyrics and have come to appreciate the interesting mixture of alt-rock and modern pop that Stargate brought to the album. Will's percussion is so good on this thing and its remarkable a band that started with low-fi indie rock could end up producing such lush and well produced songs 15 years later. 4 years ago I wouldn't have felt this way, but the nostalgia lenses are coming on team.

I'm with ya @I ran away... I think we're SOL for a while on the new music front tho I hope I'm wrong. On the TiT Video: Really it could be anything as you said. Could have been an easter egg for the production crew or for the director. If Coldplay tweeted out a screenshot or a clip of the music video that says "look carefully" then maybe I'd believe it. For the playlists -- Yes many times in the past we've predicted a playlist on spotify is some indication of new music coming but that hasn't panned out. However, I do think these playlists are useful to see what the band members are listening to during the writing process. Some of what Chris has shared in the past actually hinted at collaborations on Los Unidades and EL. So maybe the fact that Jonny and Guy (I love their playlists btw) are sharing funk, soul, and R&B hints at the next record being inspired by that sound.

So April 4 and April 24 have flown by, getting rid of FFTF2024 theories for now. Our next notable date will be May 11, per the TiT video, but that could also be flipped to be Nov. 5, which is feeling more likely given COVID-19. It's already been said on this forum, but I'm doubtful of anything on May 11. In addition to most artists delaying their album releases, you have other artists like The 1975 and The Killers releasing their albums in May. So even if they released something, there's big competition in the pop and alt-rock world in May that would take the media spotlight. One thing that does keep me hopeful, however, is the band's social media activity -- posting lots every week from playlists, to videos, to Guy's car stuff (sigh). Maybe this is just because they're trying to give us stuff while we're stuck at home, but maybe they're also working right now on new music!

^Yeah same thoughts, unfortunately. Her whole career there have been mentions of UFO as part of that retrofuturistic vibe so this isn't out of the ordinary. That said... It is a fun coincidence that we're anticipating a space-themed album from Chris who just mentioned UFO on his #togetherathome and that the artist they've collaborated with is also teasing a UFO arriving soon around the same timeline many of us were expecting LP9 teases. Let the conspiracies begin.

When Chris did that SNL performance, I almost freaked out because my eyes were tired and I thought the "flower" he was wearing on his suit was a patch of a planet! I was like "holy crap! a tease of the new era!" Then I wiped my eyes and was like "oh he's still dressed for the everyday life..."

Looking forward to this. Dua's released one of my favorite albums of the year and I'm looking forward to seeing her become a bigger and bigger pop star. Didn't she open for Coldplay at one point on the AHFOD tour? Yeah obviously I'd always prefer a Coldplay-only cover, but whataya gonna do. I do wish the band would release some demos or charity singles during this time. Seems like they have plenty of left over tracks they could share, but they are so timid about new music I feel like, compared to Radiohead who releases tons of extra songs every year.

^I'd hope so! If you look at the ASCAP Repertoire, there are two U.F.O.'s registered. Also -- wanted to toot my own horn and back up my prediction once more. Both Guy and Jonny have now released spotify playlists that are HEAVILY fileld with soul and retro 60's music. I seriously think MOTS is gonna be soul music driven, even if there is a space theme. I know that sound crazy, but I just have a feeling.

^For sure. I think your prediction could totally be true, essentially going back towards a more colorful, upbeat formula. And if it is Music Of The Spheres and has a space theme, then definitely some ambient, dark, or synthy flavors would make most sense. But it's so crazy that each era can stand on its own. I don't know how they do it. Like AHFOD maybe felt the most derivative of earlier records? But even then AOAL and HFTW are totally unique to that era. EL somehow ended up maintaining a pretty consistent feel despite all of its ideas/genres. So with LP9, there's no way we can predict the real sound... but who knows. At some point they have to run out of ideas haha

Nice shoutout to Molly Tuttle and Sierra Hull. I grew up listening to a lot of bluegrass & americana. It's one of those genres that I think most people can jump into and have a great time plus it has roots across the world with other types of folk music. I've always wanted Coldplay to go all out folk on an album and do that Viva/Mylo era thing where they were recording with accordions, horns, etc. The original "Wedding Album" probably would have been my favorite. We need more of: Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground, Til Kingdom Come, Lukas/Famous Old Painters, Prospekts March.

^As the popular theory suggests! Before the Corona crisis I was feeling very optimistic about this theory, but just about every other artist has pushed back their releases and other than some random Insta posts from Guy and Chris saying "we have a new song" there haven't been any other clues. The hopeful part of will say FFTF is a single to be released tomorrow and the first taste of the new era! Will check back in 24hrs.

Just an update for those that saw Izzy Bizu was in The Bakery last week: After digging around her instagram, it actually looks like she was in the Bakery back in late February as well and she tagged Dan Greene. My guess now is that Dan is producing her new album and they used the Bakery for part of it. Doesn't rule out that she's collaborating with the band, but seems less likely. And besides, if they actually release new music in the next month as predicted, it's likely they've already wrapped up recording.

Could be! The last 3 weeks have had so much new Coldplay content (two COTW videos, Tiny Desk, Trouble in Town) that I'd imagine they'd ride that publicity and media wave into some new teases.... I think we should expect something early April.... As much as I'd prefer them to revisit the shoegaze, glitch electronic and spacey elements of albums past, I think the more likely outcome will be a throwback retro sound. Think 50's-80's with those modern electronic touches and pop production. I could see influences of soul and jazz percolating through from the EL Era. Cry Cry Cry was our teaser for LP9 imo. What's that have to do with planets? I don't know. But has Coldplay ever really stuck to a discernable theme on any album? Nope. It could just be a pop album with a few 30 second planet interludes to pad out all the EDM bangers.

Now we have a COTW Lyric Video which ONCE AGAIN heavily emphasizes planets and space..... I mean, it fits the theme of the song and the message, so again it could be coincidence. But this really seems like a tease to me given everything.

*slowly enters conversation with a walker. Back in the June of 2011 I was wrapping up my jr. year of high school and they dropped ETIAW, my fricken song of the summer. MX then didn't drop until October and in between we got live performances and lots of teasing. I think we are getting a tease or a single very soon and then there will be a more open timeline of when we'll actually get the full album. I'm feeling optimistic April 2nd or April 4th will be the day.

Addressing some of the thoughts here: 1. MX 2 - The Sequel? For me, it's highly unlikely LP9 is a sequel, but it's an interesting catch that the swirl was the symbol for hurts like heaven. Probably coincidence. However, as a lover of the MX era, I'd be excited if they made a return to alternative rock with a fun pop edge to it. 2. Back to the Future - We should always be on the lookout for clues like this. I think Fight For The Future is a really good prediction. Also, we know Cry Cry Cry was inspired by Back to the future and that alien voice is making a return... so maybe more tracks in this style? I for one am guessing LP9 goes for a retro pop vibe, so lot's of R&B and doo-wop. 3. Just related to EL - Maybe? We perhaps never considered that this could be an EP or within the EL era. But also, EL is a really inclusive album and doesn't feel like it would have b-sides. Like tracks that should have been b-sides imo weren't haha. 4. Other random predictions: Music of the Spheres is a direct reference to scientists that have explored the sounds planets and celestial bodies makes and it's a spacey album with ambient moments and is inspired by planets. Music of the Spheres is actually referring to hemispheres. The songs are all inspired by, and collaborated, with artists from across the globe: more afro-beats, spanish guitar, latin-american beats, folk etc. Think Los Unidades.
