  1. I feel like they wouldn't have posted the teaser for Guns unless it's a single right? So maybe a single tomorrow/friday? It seems the new way to release singles is 1. Announce album 2. Start rolling out singles on spotify every week 3. Put them on the top of your streaming service in one collection (or EP) 4. See the streams pour in. Basically every time I've listened to EL on Spotify it will instantly go to Orphans then Arabasque and I sigh, realizing i Just listed to more than i intended. So why not add Guns to the list? Blink 182 had like 5 singles before their last album dropped and they put them in an EP format on Spotify making it easy to binge over and over.
  2. I like music for both purposes, personally. Coldplay's music has always had some slight "political" undertones, so to have one album really dig into their feelings and frustrations sounds good to me! So long as the music also slaps :) And something that might be politicized doesn't mean Coldplay shouldn't make art about it. At the end of the day, the world is really really frustrating, scary and confusing. Especially in 2019, I think people rising up and resisting a lot of the crap going down (violence, climate change, inequity, racism) is a good thing, and if Coldplay can contribute to that movement then go for it! Use your platform!
  3. Really interested to see if Gun's progresses into a heavier sounding, longer country song or if it is just a 2-minute acoustic guitar piece. I also love to see Coldplay go political, I just hope Chris can write a full song that has tact and isn't too generalized. I often feel his lyrics are a bit too general despite the good intentions. This seems very promising to me, but in this snippet he's tackling a lot of issues though, squeezing money out of low-income people, the sick, and then buy more guns. Not super focused....
  4. Posted this on the main LP8 - Everyday Life Thread but here's my ramble. I was walking home from the bars last night (a bit tipsy) and listened to this track 3 or 4 times and then have listened a bunch this morning and watched the live version. TLDR: Inessential Coldplay. Bummed that this album closer feels half baked and somewhat dull. Instrumental is okay, lyrics are okay but a bit on the nose. Forgettable overall, hope it fits better on album but not great single. [spoiler=Review] Yeah inessential Coldplay, like 5/10, might grow on me. The strings throughout are great, but i'm not a fan of the choice of using glossy, 80's keyboards and the dull, syruppy drumpad. Jonny's ambient guitar is again inaudible throughout most of the track (see Oceans, O, Army of One), which is one of my biggest newplay gripes. Guy's bassline is fine but kind of muddy in the mix. Lyrically, this is one of those tracks on a good day, I can just be like "okay cool Chris" but today I think they are too on the nose and lack any spice or poetry. Chris can sometimes be overly literal and he's doing that here, but of course the sentiment is nice. In some ways track feels like a mixture of all of Coldplay's era. The songwriting feels similar to X&Y, the guitar is similar to Paracthutes/AROBTTH, production is Ghost Stories/MX. But the song has no momentum. It doesn't really go anywhere or do anything as interesting as the opening strings. And even then, we have cooler string arrangements out of Colplay (Hypnotised, ALIENS, everything Viva, Birds). In summary it's a Chris Martin piano ballad (Up In Flames, O) and the band ends up just filling in the empty sound without adding much imagination to the track. Idk, it's cool to have a soft closer to an album i guess but if this is how they conclude this era, I'm worried I've been fooled into the first two singles being my fave tracks and then not liking a lot of the rest of the album. But also, maybe the rest of the album will be so full of awesome bangers and cool sounds that this track will feel like a satisfying ending. Idk.
  5. Not gonna lie, at first with Arabesque and Orphans I was thinking EL could slip into my fave album up with VLV and AROBTTH, assuming the album carries a consistent sound from these tracks (more meaningful, cool lyrics, jazz instrumentation, bouncy bass). But modern Coldplay really goes into a lot of genres so the last 3/4 of this album could be totally different. And as far as Everyday Life goes....well let's just say now I'm worried. [spoiler=My Everyday Life Track Review] Yeah inessential Coldplay, like 5/10, might grow on me. The strings throughout are great, but i'm not a fan of the choice of using glossy, 80's keyboards and the dull, syruppy drumpad. 6. Cry Cry Cry ... whoa sounds like a classic doo-wop song,. The "cry cry cry" sounds sampled... maybe from Jonny cash pitched up? BrokEn ... cool lyrics and sounds like it will include a gospel choir, wonder what the instrumental will sound like.
  7. ^ Haha I listend to Arabesque like 10 times in a row and felt like I needed to take a breather, so I listened to all of Arcade Fire's Reflektor. Really love that album's vibe even though it divided a lot of fans. Arabesque is way more Jazzy than Reflektor, which is going for a more dark-disco dance vibe. One of my favorite openings to a track ever is Reflektor with the saxaphones....
  8. ^well maybe its like a mix of choral effects and jazz instrumentation? On Chris' "raw" and "earthy" comments -- Where do we see the Everyday Life Era fitting in sonically? Coldplay albums have never really fit one genre, especially the last few, but these comments make me wonder if a lot of the record is acoustic? Will they draw inspiration from early U2? Jazz obviously will play a role, but what does earthy mean? That makes me think of granola jam bands haha
  9. Short songs are kind of in right now. Makes them more streamable (profitable). But really I think a lot of artists, especially in hip-hop, are feeling more comfortable distilling a song down to it's essence and serving it up without traditional Opening - verse - bridge - chorus - verse - bridge chorus - verse/extended bridge - chorus - outro. Kind of gets predictable after a while. Agree what's most important is what your putting in that time. Did AOAL need the extra verse? I'd argue no because it had nothing to offer.
  10. Here's the spotify link - https://open.spotify.com/episode/6PtxIT42tPjlP0TSvG70M8?si=eXfZF50GTPu9Tuu0r9jSLg Just look up Mr. JWW podcast and you may find it elsewhere too. I bet we for sure get AT LEAST one more single. Looking at the calendar I feel like maybe the week of Nov. 7th would be a good time to drop two more single tracks in the same style as Arabesque and Orphans so we have 4 teasers going into the 16 track album.
  11. ^ well interestingly Guy just said on a podcast that they are looking forward to have some "concerts" soon. But then he said later on that they don't plan on touring the new album "everyday life".... So maybe the rumors are true that Everyday life is the experimental album and then they'll just drop another more tourable album after.
  12. Would they pull a repeat of Kaleidoscope and have this poem read out loud on the album as an interlude track? Very much the same message of Arabesque in the poem, but my best guess is that this is one of the shorter interludes? Or maybe they take us by surprise and it's a super swanky Arab Jazz song.
  13. Random guess; It's a nice acousticy song. Short and sweet, 2-3 minutes like the Goldrush.
  14. Don't know, but you bet Chris is gonna falsetto "Cry Cry Cryyyyyyyyyy"
  15. Sounds kinda piano-balladey sad and mopey. After the explosive ending to Arabesque I'd expect this one to sound quieter.
  16. Really an odd title. I like the theory that the En is for "eno" It's on the same disc as Arabesque. My guess is that this is one of the most alternative songs on the album?
  17. Historically, some of my top tracks have been track #2 (Birds, Magic, HLH, Cemeteries in London). Hoping it brings back viva vibes with church organs and big choirs and epic strings.
  18. Hope i'm wrong but I'm down with the theory others have proposed which is that this is that pleasant instrumental they teased a few weeks back with the violins. Maybe it's like an MX style opening.
  19. Def hoping for this one to be darker and super political and just outright anti-gun. But more realistically looking at the rest of the album and the length, I wonder if this will be a short instrumental opener to Sunset. If we take Chris' word, then Sunrise should be the darker album of the too because we're "waking up to face the day's challenges" and then Sunset is about overcoming those challenges? Maybe Guns opens up Sunset by summing up Sunrise with the sounds of guns/explosions/sirens with some strings before heading into the more 'healing' songs?
  20. Not sure what to think of this one. Maybe a five minute track composed of one 4 minute track like Army Of One that's upbeat, talking about how cool the world is and then maybe like a 1-minute audio clip/instrumental of someone talking about bringing "Power to the People" ?
  21. ^ Totally agree! Chris mentioned voice memos being on the album and so far people who've heard the album don't talk about this one. So my guess is its one of the band members' kids? Or maybe its like a kid Chris recorded somewhere in the world talking about missing their daddy? I feel like this could either be cute like "i miss you daddy" or it could be extremely dark, like "I lost my daddy" which would be a gut punch of a thing to put on an album...
  22. Funny they have a b-side for a 16 track double album hahaha. I mean maybe this one is just their least fave and they wanted to have an evenly weighted double album. Flags sounds political, maybe similar to All Your Friends?
  23. My hope is for an epic send off for the album. My guess is that this will be like DAAOHF in that it basically sums up the themes of the album and tries to deliver an emotional/hopeful and upbeat closer to the album? I already feel like this could be my fave track..
  24. ^ Interesting! My guess right now is gonna be a short 1-2 minute track that includes a big choir of voices. Sunset is supposed to be the "happier" side of the album or at least the more hopeful side. If Jacob Collier is on this thing I bet it will be this big vocal harmonization piece leading into Cry Cry Cry
  25. I don't know why but this one sounds like a Western movie to me or something haha. I feel like Arabesque had some slinky guitar picking to it so maybe this one has darker americana vibe? Maybe this is the one where Jonny whips out the banjo? Either way I like how theatrical the name is. Typically the third track on Coldplay albums is a single of somesort so that'd make sense unless this album is truly "experimental" and not radio friendly.
