  1. Patience friends! I personally am not expecting anything until I awake tomorrow (TO A NEW ERAAA). I may check the forums once more before bed. But a watched pot does eventually boil.... Godspeed to you all, and I'll see you on the other side.
  2. I bet a single drops tonight or tomorrow. I don't think they'd go to all this teasing this week if they didn't intend to share new music. Trying not get to my hopes up -- I remember the teasing for Midnight and the teasing for AOAL and both times Coldplay convinced me they were trying to go "alternative" but didn't. But this time... that poster and these symbols seem to be indicating some return to worldly, acoustic sounding music? Side note -- but the symbols remind me a little bit of a mix between Arcade Fire's Neon Bible and Bon Iver's 22 A Million. Obviously not identical but getting those vibes. Been doing this dance since I was in eighth grade right before Viva came out :D "For all of you new to the forums, savor these teasing moments" - Old Man Voice
  3. Just a random LP8 thought that the poster brought up, specifically the Nietzsche -looking dude with the saxophone. I really hope that Coldplay collaborates with more session artists to their upcoming releases and live performances. Their music is usually really rich with extra instrumentation they've recorded, or recorded by Davide Rossi, Daniel Greene, Brian Eno, etc. -- but some of my huge disappointment with AHFOD is that it teased other instruments (horns on HFTW, saxophone on AHFOD) but they never came through in an organic way. In fact, I'm pretty sure those sounds were electronically added. That definitely wasn't the case on one of their most underrated tracks, Now My Feet Won't Touch The Ground. Other artists like Arcade Fire, Talking Heads, Bruce Springsteen, The 1975, aren't afraid to bring other artists into the studio to record live tracks with extra horns, strings, drums etc. Idk why Coldplay's always avoided bringing other instrumentalists on stage. As a result, HFTW live was the weakest song on their last tour without real horns or backup singers, imo. So whatever this new music is, I hope it can sound LARGER than just 4 guys -- because 4 guys can only do so much.
  4. I hope you're wrong too.... but this poster confirms nothing about Fool's Gold. The only thing that will get me to hop on the Kirboh "one way train" is an official announcement/single that matches the leak. For all we know, this poster is advertising an album called 1919 haha Though how cool would it be if they did a time travel concept album and every song was from a different era? Mission A.B.O.R.T. would be the song from 2119. EDIT: Did Kirboh start saying One Way Train will have a banjo in it only after seeing this poster? If so, then I'm on your train, JC90. This person's totally bullcrapping.
  5. I think Kirboh is innocent until proven guilty, and I suppose we won't have long to wait.
  6. ^Well, then I reckon a new, exciting, unexpected era either starts this week and they're a hero... Or nothing happens til 2020 and we forever curse their name. :)
  7. Can I just say that Mission A.B.O.R.T. will become my new Car Kids if the discord leaker is messing with us? It sounds too cool & Daft Punk are the producers THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD ON AHFOD NOT STARGATE. 7 minutes hasn't happened since the fantastic Yes/Chinese Sleep Chant.
  8. The amount of info coming in is wackyyy! Gotta say that at first glance the supposed tracklisting seemed like fan fiction -- and maybe it is -- but boy I love Daft Punk and all of these song titles definitely seem like they'll sound alternative, maybe prog-rocky as some suggest (X&Y was influenced by prog and I felt like Kaleidoscope EP had proggy flavors too). I also get the feeling that if these titles are true, it could be a "political" album. Question: Who's saying that the beach video shoot was One Way Train? Because at this point if any of these "leaked" titles are confirmed then I'll start actually believing it.
  9. Here I go.... Time to research these random totally unfounded rumors.
  10. what a wild day. super specific leaks? A music video for another band covering Coldplay? but then a tweet about coldplaly recording a music video in LA at an elementary school? WHAT IS GOING ON AHHH HYPE AND CONFUSION EDIT: Fool's Gold sounds plausible, but probably b.s. with no source... Oldplayers help me out, wasn't there a rumor a long time ago about them releasing something called Fools Gold? Like maybe pre-MX? I'm having deja vu right now.
  11. A lot to unpack here from looking up "That Sister Is My Brother" So it's used in reference to the story of Kristin Beck. But here, it looks like it's an already existing song written by these two women? But for the life of me, I can't find the track anywhere.
  12. I'll come to the defense of surprise albums. I think one advantage is that there is zero expectation of the sound going in and that can change the overall listening experience. Especially if a record is meant to be consumed as a story or narrative, listening to it all at once is important. For example, by the time MX dropped, we had already heard ETIAW, MM, Paradise, and HLH, almost half the album. Hearing the differences between those live tracks and the album versions was really cool, but made it hard to understand the weird "concept" of the album. In the last two eras, the teaser tracks also were really misleading. Midnight had me thinking they'd release a super experimental ambient album -- nope! AOAL had me thinking we'd get a dance/disco album -- nope! In these examples it made me overall a bit underwhelmed.
  13. Jumping on the hype train too while realizing this is a fun study in "fake news" haha. Basically there's evidence all pointing towards something but no actual citation or source to VERIFY a very substantial claim -- but we humans love to believe :) Daily Star is not trustworthy, but they've been right in the past too. I'd love for them to do a double album, one experimental/instrumental and then one more standard. Foals is currently in a double-album era (though it's not their best work). My only real concern is that I'm going to get my hopes up for some Viva-esque artsy album and then it'll just be Los Unidades Vol. 2. Or it will be experimental in the way Ghost Stories was...which wasn't at all. People tend to use the "experimental" term all of the time for music that's super mainstream. GIVE ME REAL EXPERIMENTAL! I want all of us to be speechless on the forums because it sounds so different. EDIT: I also feel like this makes commercial sense, right? What better way is there to get Coldplay back on the map and to capture people's attention than with a big, weird, unexpected album out of nowhere. Then, to at least please the record label and a more general commercial audience, they can roll out new singles and a more standard "era" in 2020 and have a longer album rollout. In the streaming era, releasing more EP's and multiple albums makes more commercial sense and we can't lose sight of that here. It's as much as about $$ as it is Coldplay's artistic goals. Two albums achieves both.
  14. Responding to the rumors of new music coming soon + ramble... I too am one of those people so desperate for any bit of news, so I'll just choose to believe this person while simultaneously not getting my hopes up. Given the amazing timelines people have made, it seems a release could be imminent at any point, but I tend to agree if that if they're coming back strong with a new era then they'd want to tour it in festivals next year so I'm not expecting anything soon. From interviews with David Holmes and Mat Whitecross (albeit old ones) it sounds like 2020 makes more sense. However, let's say they do release new material next month that's a mix of AHFOD and X&Y. Couldn't be more vague -- imagine a crossover of Hymn for the Weekend & Til Kingdom Come, for example. BUT - I could see them going back to a more guitar heavy, alt-rock sound with some big radio singles. for example maintains the optimism and color of AHFOD but has a more "classic rock" backbone, if that finds its way on to LP8. I wonder what others on the forum think: How does Coldplay fit in to pop music in LP8 if at all? With Billie Eilish, Ed Sheeran, Post Malone, and others dominating the pop scene with barely any guitars, is it possible for a pop rock song to even become a hit? I just feel like the band will always want to be in talks for "best pop songs of the year," but with AHFOD and GS it felt like they weren't really reading the modern pop audience. Even songs over the past few years that I though were fantastic pop-rock ( , , , ) never broke into the Top 40. Like I'm okay with Coldplay still doing pop music BUT I'd at least hope it maintains great instrumentation and truly catch songwriting. Thoughts?
  15. I've been thinking of it as this, three options, all seem equally likely at this point: 1. They do Oldplay sounding music. No features, no pop producers, just them going back to their old indie post-britpop, alt-lite sound. Maybe they release some old demos or an album that never came through as part of this process. 2. They continue down the path of pop-inspired music of the last two albums. Overall it's fine, there is some dull pop and some exciting new ideas, but like GS or AHFOD the album is divisive because it tried to please everyone. 3. They go completely in a fresh alternative direction. Maybe it's afro-beat inspired. Maybe it's a rock opera. Maybe it's symphonic and electric. Some fans hate it, but it grabs the world's attention and puts Coldplay back in the map as a serious alternative music force. My hope is #3. I wouldn't mind #1. I'd be extremely bummed if #2.
  16. ^yeah, they're definitely in studio. Guy posted on his Instagram story a video from the same balcony Davide Rossi posted, so I'm betting at least Chris and Guy have been working with him. Great news if you ask me! Davide's contritubutions have been some of my favorite to all of Coldplay. Could also just be Los Unidades stuff or rehearsing for a performence, but who knows.
  17. Guy has always been able to deliver deadpan non-answers. Let's be honest -- we know there will be another Coldplay album, and I'd be shocked if there wasn't at least one more Coldplay/Los Unidades thing by the end of 2019. They've been in studio, something is going to happen, eventually... Let's keep an eye on these livestreams in case something else slips :) I don't think Guy's car excursions have anything to do with Coldplay or his music. It's just another big piece of his life and doesn't necessarily reflect on his musical efforts/talents. I have my professional job but when I have time off I have other hobbys/obsessions too. Plus, Apparatjik had much more creative musical ideas than Coldplay. We're just too starved for news :( One thing I look forward to is the next Global Citizen Festival announcement? They usually have on in the Fall in NY and Chris is usually a part of that. Maybe a Global Citizen EP 2? I'm down for that.
  18. Yeah... Feels super underproduced and low energy to my ears? Like the earlier version we heard featured acoustic guitar, kick drum, and the piano exploded towards the end. It feels like the awkwardly slowed down Chris's vocals. I think this could have ended up being a big radio hit similar to "Wake Me Up." It has the catchy hooks, it has the star guest vocalist. But boy did they underserve this song.
  19. This is a truly bizarre development... but truthfully my guess would be this is something related to the documentary. Is there a scene with just Jonny and Will working on something or recording? The fact this popped up close to "Album Recording Sounds" makes me suspicious. Dan Greene did engineer Los Unidades last year... Remember that Chris wrote a dinky about Julia Roberts and that ended up on ASCAP months after it was performed, so there never seems to be any real rhyme or reason to anything on ASCAP, and though it's fun to speculate, I don't believe we've ever had a song revealed pre-release through it. But okay, fun theory: It's a jangly track on their upcoming album with psychedelic guitars and crazy drum soloing.
  20. We'd be so lucky to get a new song that sounds ANYTHING like the ones Chris just tweeted out. Bring back orchestral world pop Coldplay.
  21. If you go to Coldplay's Youtube Channel it looks like the A Head Full Of Dreams and Live in Buenos Aires playlists were updated about a week ago, around the time this weird "Easy" thing popped up. Idk who's in charge of Warner Music's youtube or Colplday's Youtube, but it was probably just a mistake during the update. \ OR It was a secret easter egg teasing Coldplay's next release :) "Easy" which has their most minimalist artwork yet haha
  22. Somebody may have already said this but ... Kacey Musgraves just won best album at the Grammy's for "Golden Hour." I thought I'd give it a listen. I'm a big fan of Americana and GOOD country music so I felt dumb I missed it. I'm super surprised how much Kacey's aesthetic is like Coldplay. This particular album is much more soft-rock than country inspired, but the way the acoustic guitar, pianos, and slide guitars are mixed sound A LOT like Coldplay throughout their career. There are even really nice drone synths, slide guitar reverb (like Jonny's E-bow), and strings mixed throughout the album that could have come straight out of AROBTTH. Check out Slowburn, Rainbows, Oh What A World. Overall it's a pretty good album. It reminds me a lot of Beck's "Morning Phase" which won best album too. I'd love to see Coldplay go in this more quiet, acoustic direction for their next outing -- and hey, maybe they could finally win "Album of the Year," even though the Grammy's are trash and we all know it.
  23. ^Meh it was fine. I am not a fan of them but it's hard to deny how many great hits they've had for so long. There just wasn't anything particularly notable about their performance. Adam Levine looked bored and it felt more scripted than spontaneous. If you think about it, Coldplay kind of had the first Superbowl performance that felt "shared" versus "featuring Beyonce & Bruno Mars." and Maroon 5/NFL was clearly trying to emulate that by including some local performers ( A Gospel choir and drumline) which went over nicely. But it just felt like there was too much happening and M5 wanted to cram in too many songs. Best parts for me were Spongebob/TravisScott (Sicko Mode is my fave song of 2018) and Big Boi who truly represented Atlanta.
  24. An important lesson we can all be learning from Coldplay is that it really doesn't matter what other people think. I'm sorry to hear that they give you crap over liking something. It sucks we live in a world where enjoying something or connecting with something deeply makes people judge you. Don't worry about them! They're the ones missing out on something they can't/won't understand. Really, my only advice is don't let it stress you. To them it's probably just a fleeting joke. I've had similar experiences with my coworkers who like to poke a little fun at me, but it doesn't mean they think of me any less as a person. You're totally in the right!
  25. Thanks for the share! I'll be curious to see if this actually gets released. The vocals still feel kind of demo quality to me, and frankly I think this updated production/tempo feels pretty dull and they got rid of the acoustic guitar? A bummer because I think this song has a strong hook. I don't know really how to put my finger on it, it just feels kind of vapid if you ask me -- which was kind of my criticism with Avicii's music in the first place. Honestly, if this song actually came to a version that felt more lively and had better vocals and real instrumentation, I think it could have been another hit single like "Wake Me Up"
